I've lived in the area my entire life and this is the only Chinese restaurant to still be around after 20 years! The staff is wonderful and restaurant is super clean until the last few times I've aten there I've found; I kid you not, a hair. Long dark hair in my sea same chicken. Do they not have hair nets? And if so whose shedding that bad? Needless to say upon return they correct it and remade me the food for free, which is nice of them but on a lunch break? I moved back to Horseheads last year and finally made to the Dragon Wok for take-out. Now I have ordered it 3 times this week alone. The food is amazing! It is made to order . I love that when you place your on line order each item has a place to make a special request. (Add a little spice, no onion, etc.) and the cooks actually read it. I know we should support local businesses but im extremely disappointed with Dragon Wok in horseheads. they gave us the wrong items. I've ordered from them for 14 years and never got a bowl of soup and told it was pork chow mein. The pork fried rice was a nasty grey color as well. Had a hankering for takeout and didn't think to check the reviews before arriving. We ordered off the lunch special menu, 2 items which set us back $20. Seems a bit up there for a Chinese takeout spot, especially for lunch. When picking up the food, I noticed they use containers with 3 compartments, unlike usual rectangular containers where the meat is on one side and rice on the other. They skimp out on everything this way because they include the lunch egg roll in the compartment instead of it's own bag. You are left with the smallest square of fried rice and a poor serving of meat. My issue is no vegetables! No veggies in the fried rice and no veggies with the meal except one decorative broccoli. The fried rice is terribly salty with no distinctive flavor and the meat items are mediocre at best. Kind of tough and chewy as you would find at many small town Chinese takeout spots. This place is simply not worth it in my opinion. read more

An unassuming little joint in an unassuming strip plaza that never disappoints!! Place your order at the counter and have a seat, and they'll bring you your meal served on paper plates with plastic flatware (or in your to-go bag/box), but don't let that fool you. THE FOOD HERE IS PHENOMENAL!! On my first visit, I asked them how their General Tso's Chicken was. The guy told me "Very good -- it's my uncle's recipe." After eating it that day I told the guy it was THE BEST General's chicken I'd ever had, and to congratulate his uncle. Come to find out, the uncle was a chef for Generalissimo Chang-Kai Check!!! (Not sure how to spell that) Since then, if I'm in the area at mealtime, I make a point to stop here. And I always get the General's chicken. It's a great mixture of subtle flavors that create a bit of a spicy edge. Sometimes I get it as a combo (fried rice & egg roll), but tonight it was with hot & sour soup. Usually the food is good but inconsistent in terms of getting the same veggies in the type of dish you order. This time, the labeled veggie egg roll was switched with the regular one. I'm allergic to shellfish and beef yet was given a labeled veggie egg roll. That's a life-threatening situation. My husband called, got an apology and was told he be credited for the egg roll. GROSS! Ordered Shrimp Szechuan for lunch. While we were waiting, the server and cook decided to have a wrestling match in the kitchen for all to see. Once we recieved our order, I noticed that the shrimp was not deveined. I brought it up to the counter and the server just looked at it like it was fine. I stated that it wasn't deveined and his response was, "yeah, we just take the shells off". I said, "you realize that is shit, right"? I guess they dont care. Ordered takeout from here last night. It arrived lukewarm at best an hour later. I had general tsao chicken, cold noodles and crab Rangoon. Ate a little of everything and spent the entire night from midnight on with acid reflux, the taste of old fryer oil in my mouth and gastrointestinal issues. This is not normal for me at all. Everyone was rude including who I think is the manager, Daniel. He forgot half my order and would not compensate. NOT TO MENTION, I found hair in my food! Like another reviewer and other reviews elsewhere I have read afterwards, I found a hair in my food. Of course this is a hideous enough situation but how I was treated was even worse. I went up to the counter and politely explained the awkward situation, and asked for a refund...they would not refund me. They offered to make the meal again, but by that time and being on my lunch break under time constraints, I very understandably did not want the food remade and didn't have the time to wait either. After waiting about 10 minutes (by that time, the principal outweighed all else)I finally was able to talk to the owner who advised me that they would refund me, "but they did not want me back." I couldn't believe how narcissistic this person was so I asked them to repeat themselves and explain...he then very condescendingly made it clear that if I want a refund, they didn't want me to return. Again let me reiterate that I was very polite and respectful the whole time, and if anyone should've been rude or angry, it should've been me. After this experience, I'm sure you can empathize with me feeling that the owners have no integrity, and this place is horrible. Anyone who's been here knows that the food is mediocre at best, overpriced and I'm sure the only reason anyone local goes here is because it's conveniently located. That's the only reason I ever did, and I will not be anymore. There are definitely other options around. This place does not deserve local business. Avoid them like the plague and the boulder in Indiana Jones, or take chances on your own surprise hair or worse. read more

They make really good noodles but the chicken here was cold and when I ordered a large there was almost nothing in it. I could have paid for a small and still have room to spare. Sadly I don't recommend this location. read more

Dragon Wok should be renamed "Dragon Run and Don't Look Back"!! This is by far the worst Chinese food I think I've ever had. The chicken curry tasted nothing at all of curry. It was an overly salty yellow spicy sauce, and was more like a soup consistency than an entree. The chicken lo mein was also way too salty, and the noodles were mush. I mean, lo mein is easy...hard to mess up unless you get it from "Dragon Run and Don't Look Back." The white rice was "clumpy" and "starchy". Really? How does a Chinese restaurant mess up white rice? That's a special kind of talent for sure! I'd continue my review of the chicken with broccoli and egg rolls we ordered, but I'm afraid I need to go quench my thirst and monitor my blood pressure after consuming such sodium filled inedibles. read more

This place used to be very good, and because we live a mile away we ordered take out regularly. Then, something happened. New owner ? Anyway it changed in a bad way !! Haven't been able to eat their food. Now, Probably the worst Chinese ever ! We now drive all the way to Corning to get our Chinese take out . 30 minutes each way !! Evergreen on Market Street. Staff is always friendly, always willing to up the spice on any given dish since even their "spicy" is American-Chinese food levels of mild spice. When I want that kind of food this is probably the best place in the Elmira/Horseheads area to get it. Crispy shrimp is probably the best though lately I've been a fan of the sichuan pork as well. read more

I liked the egg rolls and fried rice. Happy to see I can still get some good Chinese food around. Small on the inside but that's why we always get the take out. Me and big bro Dontravius come here on occasion and have eating completions and they are always very accommodating towards that. One time we even got a couple workers to record it and another one do commentary like one of those hot dog completions. Very fun place to be around. Nice people as well once you get past the language barrier with some workers. Only complaint is the bathroom could have been cleaner and better stocked with toilet paper because I went in to relieve myself and found that the bathroom was lacking common toiletries. I have been eating at Dragon Wok from it's very beginnings, and it has always been great. However, tonight's order is making me reconsider the title I've always had for them, which was "the best Chinese food in the county" and,now, it is "the worst Chinese food in the county." The egg rolls were tiny and reminded me of store-bought frozen egg rolls. My spouse's pork fried rice had three pieces of pork, and mine had none. The pork fried rice is one of the main reasons I wanted to order from there, and not only did it have no pork, but it was sticky and starchy. It was horrible. If this is the kind of food this once great restaurant is going to offer, then they might as well close their doors now. They deserve a negative star rating. read more
