I thought I was here for a quick stop-over between work meetings downtown Albany, but a quick email check turned into a "hey maybe I should use their WiFi" and unexpectedly and quite fortuitously for me turned into a gift of two and a half hours all to myself of people-watching. My travel companion told a couple next to us that they looked really cute and they shared that it's the love that's found towards the greater age in life that's more carefree. An environmental specialist who was sitting next to me and generously passed on the Wi-Fi password (it was all lowercase just as she remembered but had a couple extra words after the key one) is now a LinkedIn connection. The matcha latte is amazing. Definitely considering getting a large bag of loose leaf Earl Gray to take home with me - perhaps before the download spinning wheel reaches the magic 75%. Or maybe even after.

Atmosphere: The place is always buzzing with many interesting people to observe. (I'm a people watcher.) The Hip music and the dark atmosphere feels good to be around and makes you feel like your an extra cool person. I enjoy coming here, because its an outlet to get together and socialize with friends, or just chill alone. Service: The service is good. The baristas are eager to please and have a cheerful temperament when I interact with them. Managers give them a raise for me, and be flexible if they go to college. Drinks: I mostly drink hot beverages, so I don't have a lot to say about the cold ones. I am, however, a creature of habit and enjoy a good mocha or regular coffee. The mochas here are usually a lot better than many establishments such as Dutch Brothers. The mocha is a simple affair to concoct and it should be chocolaty and just a little bit sweet. The plain coffee here is also very good. It tastes bold, and full flavored but sometimes has a little acidity to it. I don't really care what kind of coffee it is, as long as it tastes decent and not like the cheap crap at restaurants and gas stations. Experience: The experience of this particular Starbucks is very good. There is an excellent view to the outside in all directions, and the inside is often well lit. The windows are tinted and well shaded when needed. There are plenty of plugs cleverly inlaid into the window bases that make charging things very easy. The furniture is stylish if not a tad uncomfortable. The place needs to figure out how to get more seating inside the place, because sometimes I come inside and its full. There is clearly more space than is used here and that needs some improvement. cleanliness: The place is very clean and the baristas seem to care a lot about keeping the place up. I even once saw them cleaning the ceiling, so I feel the place certainly is in good hands. Although there are some splash stains from various drinks that sprayed everywhere to be seen here and there, I have to look pretty hard. Pro's: Good drinks, service, and atmosphere. Very clean. Cons: Needs more seating and less nick-nacks taking space.

I ordered a maple bar, an apple fritter, a marionberry fritter, a lemon cupcake, and a strawberry cupcake. I asked how much an eclair would be and she said she "thinks" they are 6.75. I think that's incredibly expensive. I was going to order 8 or 9 items, but that price freaked me out, so I said yes to the exlair. My marionberry fritter was tough and very hard to chew. My apple fritter was excellent. Soft and fried with a nice consistency. The frosting on the cupcakes was not good. Really, not good. The cupcakes were very good though. They need to change their recipe on the Frosting. My husband ate the entire maple bar, so it must have been good. That over priced eclair.... you want to know if it was good? Um, yes it was. Very good. Still over priced, but very good. I hate that they ask if you want to tip. I walked to the counter and ordered. I didn't taste the food, so I guess they are asking me to tip because she rang me up? Tipping is out of control and a huge reason why I will skip going back sometimes. I paid over $30 for 5 pastries. I really don't want to tip when I have to walk up to the counter. Overall, I might go back. I think it's a great location, the person working was very nice. My son loved the viewable cases and excitedly picked out his cupcake and I had a peanut butter brownie which was outstanding. I can't comment on the cupcake but my son devoured it so I'm sure it was good. My brownie was fudgey and had a nice crispy edge. The frosting ontop was creamy and light without being overpowering on the peanut butter. It had a nice chocolate drizzle that gave it a little extra texture and crunch. I certainly would stop by again if we were in the area!
