He explained to me what happened, how to avoid it in the future and things to look out for. Honestly, when you are already a bit stressed out with whatever it is that is happening in your wall and the great unknown, it is nice to have some people fully explain things to you and how you can fix it or at least delay it for a good amount of time. Where do we start? The guy they sent out DID NOT LISTEN, spoke down to us, and acted like an arrogant bully throughout the process. He was a disorganized alarmist, not methodical at all, he was downright chaotic with a huge ego. He left the 2 exterior clean out covers off, and left a huge mess inside with sewer slime on the walls and muddy boot prints everywhere. He took no care to protect our home. If you want your toilet unclogged for the small price of $1000, this is the company to call. Never EVER again!!! I don't understand how this company has any good reviews. Or gets anything done. I see one of their trucks down at Meldrum Bar fishing all the time. I know they have a few more trucks, however it doesn't make me want to hire them. The person fishing doesn't give a positive representation of the company, sloppy and loud. I've been involved with dozens of plumbing and sewer jobs in my career as a professional and on my own properties. Dealing with this company was BY FAR the worst experience I have ever had with a plumbing/sewer contractor. This company is dishonest! They put in a new sewer line for me. Five years later, the sewer already needed repair. When I called, they "looked up" the contract and told me that it only had a one year gurantee. It was an outright lie. (I subsequently found the original contract and it was guranteed for five years.) Not only did they lie, they are not very bright. If they had looked closely they would have seen that they didn't need to lie because the five years had expired just a few weeks earlier. read more

I'm super appreciative of Jake Sutton at Drain Away Rooter who came to check out our blocked rain drains. He stuck a camera down several of our pipes, taught me how the whole system worked, and saved me a huge amount of time and money by figuring out that all those 1920s pipes are full of roots and not worth trying to unblock. Kitchen sink was clogged on both sides. Got an appointment right away for the following morning. Shannon from the office called ahead to let us know tech was on his way. Brandon arrived shortly thereafter. He had treats to quiet the barking dogs and right away established an easy communication. He was personable, knowledgeable, and professional. It is a bummer they don't have many reviews on yelp. However they have a ton of great reviews on Angie's list. Be sure to also check there for reviews too. I want to say that this place is fantastic! When I called they were able to get somebody to my house in a very timely manner, the next morning. They were extremely helpful and Troy was able to identify and solve my problem with my sewer pump! He pretty much listed the symptoms I had been experiencing almost without looking. His advise was great and was able to point me in the right direction. Not only that but he is a great and friendly guy! In fact everybody I spoke to there when setting up the appointment to making my payment were great! While the bill was a little more than I had expected, the scope of the work warranted it. Though, I would have liked to have had a more clear idea what the cost would be. That said, this didn't effect my feeling about the work or the company. They still get a five star A+ from me. I had another company come out first and I kick myself for not calling Drain Away first. The other company pretty much came out only to have me pay a bill, not to fix my issue. So bottom line, if I ever have a plumbing issue, I know who I am going to call! Just want to take a little time to thank the folks at Drain Away Rooter in Gladstone, for quickly responding to my clogged sewer line!! Jan 2017 seemed to send three bad things, all at once, to my home: clogged sewer--just done 2 years ago--broken water heater, and broken pipe to additional dwelling, that used the above mentioned water heater!! Thank goodness for Andrew Pickett, who answered the call! He cleared the line fairly fast, and used a video camera in line length of the pipe. Discovered that the city's portion of the run had multiple roots coming into it, thus not allowing our sewage to pass easily, causing the overall backup! The prior company also noted this, but did not help, as they should have, to solve the problem!! Andrew called the city's sewer folks, who just happened to be in the vicinity! The two crews looked at the video and determined that indeed it was in their portion of the line going to the main of the city's connection. Employees of the various departments came out soon after marking water, gas, sewer and electrical lines, preparing for the clean out! If it hadn't been for Andrew's professional knowledge, we would probably be having a clean out done again, very soon! He also suggested, especially with older sewer lines (1936), that certain toilet paper should be used, which breaks up easier for better flow! He suggested 'Angel Soft' as one brand. Made perfect sense. He offered that we keep them in mind if a new line might be something to consider in the future, gave us information and card from city worker's that came, on how to file with the city on possible refund for Drain Away Rooter's bill--because of the roots in their portion of the line--and gave information on how to download the 'sewer video' from their sewer business site, for personal files and use when filing with city! As a homeowner, you don't always think about all these things, and without Andrew's professional help, I wouldn't have known! A great, well-trained young man, that Drain Away Rooter should be very proud to employ. (And I am sure that great, warm chocolate chip cookie from Metro Market of Seattle had nothing to do with it!) I highly recommend this company--ask for Andrew! Had to add to this rather lengthy review: I did follow Andrew's lead, as stated above--and which two other companies in the past--never told me to follow up on, regarding the roots at the city's portion of our line connection! The City workers did come out, fairly well said it was roots at the connection, after digging 2 gigantic holes, 12-13' deep! They replaced the line, filled the holes and finished with new asphalt! And said that if I turn in the bill, like Andrew recommended, to expect about 3-6 weeks for payment on Drain Away's bill or a refusal! No refusal, and received check for full amount. While I also included the two other past companies bills, there was a time limit, but probably would have been paid at the time, if I had been told!! Andrew Pickett knows his stuff! Thank you for sending him. And with the new toilet paper, fixed water line (twice, because it was so bad), and the new water heater are also all working just fine. We scored with this one. Our sink had been backed up for four days as we tried to clear the lines, snake the pipes, and check the vent on the roof. When it still didn't help we called Drain Away Rooter based on Yelp reviews. I'm so glad we did. Matt showed up that afternoon and within 45 min the problem was solved. There's no way we could have found the problem 40' deep within the pipe but Matt did. He was quick, clean, and explained everything along the way. Jake did unplug our 2 plugged toilets but at a cost of $469.30. Well, it turns out that one of the toilets was only using about 1 gallon of water with each flush. The Elger toilet had a plastic bucket in the water tank which limited the flow of water. So.... through no fault of Jake's, the 2 toilets stopped up again. Roto Rooter of Wilsonville just cleared the stoppage for $250.00. Jake's bill was $216.30 higher. That's a lot of money to a 71 year old retiree (and his wife). read more

After calling 2 plumbing companies and having a price quotes from $180-$296, I called a friend to get another recommendation. He said to call Drain Away Roooter. He said that while he had never used them, a friend had and could not stop raving about them. I put in a call, they gave me an accurate rate quote over the phone, (a lot less than the others) showed up exactly when the said they would, wore the booties, cleaned up after themselves and were in and out in 45 minutes. Had to borrow a plunger, didn't even have a plunger on deck. Initially refused to clean the drain/back-up said it was not their job to clean anything but the homeowner's job. $476 and 3 hours later, they tell me there's an unknown issue with the kitchen drain pipe which is what I told them 2 minutes after they first entered my house that was my speculation based on the back-up debris and activities prior to the back-up. They wanted to charge an additional $250+ to continue "diagnosing" the problem, one which they explained could not ultimately be solved by them because they are "not plumbers". After paying them $476 for basically no reason besides a shoddy, reluctant cleaning, they asked me to go buy some bleach and clean the drain area again because they "probably didn't clean it very well". The back-up was about 2 feet in diameter, very small mess. Utter nightmare, would not recommend!!! read more

Please be careful with this company! They tried to charge me for something that they didn't do. They sent an employee to my place around 5pm on Friday and he was not friendly.... maybe he wanted to go home but had to work late. I didn't know which cleanout was for the main line and he told me he didn't either. So we opened the caps to the cleanout and he said he'll have to charge me for 2 sewer scopes. I didn't think it was fair so i said no. There was no sewer scope done, we just opened the caps and he charged me for 2 scopes. I didn't pay him because I didn't think it was fair because he didn't do any work. Now I just found out that they sent me to collections. PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL! read more

I had water coming up from both my kitchen sink and shower. I called Drain Away Rooter and made an appointment which was later in the day but the same day which was o.k. with me. I got a call about an hour later asking if the tech could come sooner, I of course told them yes...no problem and was told it would be about noon. I got another call a few minutes later asking if a tech could come by now since he'd completed a job early...yes please. Matt came to my house, he was very courteous and knowledgeable and went straight to work after we went over the pricing. Matt cleared the clog, and saw that there were some other issues with the plumbing and took care of those too. Excellent service provided on home purchase. I needed a sewer scope super quick and this company responded quickly and their technician was knowledgable, thorough, and friendly. They were able to find the problem in the sewer lateral and gave a quote to fix it right on the spot. Excellent service! Update: what's really cool is they provide the video inspection on their website so you can really easily view it. I then called to find out how much more it would cost me to actually get it fixed, encountered an extremely rude representative answering the phone who literally said "You can take your business, elsewhere." After being up for 72 hours bailing water; and, increasing pressure to fix the problem, this was not the customer service experience that I was looking for. Problem easily resolved by competitor. My technician arrived about 30 minutes outside the scheduled 2 hour window. The company did call during the 2 hour window to let me know he was running late and to confirm later was ok. The receptionist told me the technician would be able to clarify which machine should be used in my situation. When he arrived he didn't explain it well and didn't give me enough information to feel confident in my decision. He seemed to be pushing the 'jetter' which costs more per hour and uses the homeowners water. I agreed to that method. It didn't work. Then he said I would need to use the other method, the cable. This worked fine, but there was no discount offered and I felt I had been scammed into using the option that wouldn't work. In the end I paid the full price for both options $190/hour and $149/hour - even though he wasn't here a full two hours doing work. Then later I look at the bill again and realize I was charged $10.00 fuel charge! Their website says they don't charge for anywhere in the Portland area. I'd say this $10.00 fuel charge says otherwise. I would not recommend this company to a friend or family member, I feel like I was not given all the information up front to make an informed decision and I was charged a hidden fee that was never explained. Two thumbs down. My problem was identified, but to have it repaired would have cost more money and I decided to do the work myself. read more
