We had a leak in the ceiling below our third story shower/bath combo. A different plumber had come out and told me the necessary repair was to cut into the wall to access the underneath of the tub and replace the waste drain, for a price of around $1,400. This seemed steep so I requested Pro Drain come out for a second opinion. Chris from Pro Drain arrived and listened to my recap of the situation. He performed his own diagnostic tests and told me the source of the leak was actually from water getting outside the tub and getting through areas between the tile and the wall of the tub. All that was actually needed were splash guards and application of caulking. Chris saved us over $1,000, not to mention wall repair costs. Surprised to see so many 5-star reviews for this place. They may indeed provide 5-star work but my one and only contact with them left me cold. Thought I had a busted water main coming into the house. Called TVWD and while they were on the way I got on Yelp looking for a good plumber to fix whatever the water dept guy found. Prodrain was highly rated so they were one of the three I contacted. I was told that "Kelly" would return my call in 30 minutes. 24 hours later she calls. Yes, I "might" have a plumber available today she says. That will be $165 just to have him show up. That includes a $5 "fuel surcharge" (Prodrain is about ten minutes away on Allen Blvd) and the first 30 minutes of work. $165 per hour thereafter. Yikes! So... minus stars for not having any sense of urgency. And minus stars for a biz model that is more akin to the way Attorneys work. The meter starts running immediately so cough up big time just to get us to show up. The other two Yelp recommended plumbing firms were happy to come out for a free quote. Rates were not discussed but in 40 years living in this house I don't think I've paid anything close to that stratospheric hourly rate. My water/plumbing calamity was resolved almost 24 hours before Prodrain even returned my call and the total bill for the resolution was a *LOT* less than these guys would have cost. Prodrain might do great work. But of course I'll ever know. But I mostly wanted to advise my fellow Yelp friends this place is pretty mercenary and will dent your wallet big time. read more

We needed a specialized toilet flapper replaced. Normally we'd do this ourselves (have done it for our other toilets) but this one was different. The guy came out one day right on time and said he needed to order it specially since it was unique. So we rescheduled and he came back again right on time and fixed it in less than half a hour. We had a backed up sewer line that kept backing up out of our laundry room drain. We tried snaking it ourselves, but it would only stay clear for a week or so and then back up again. ProDrain came out and cleared the system for us once, but a couple weeks later it backed up again. They came out a second time and we discovered that the issue may have been the backwater valve. As they snaked the pipe, the backwater valve ended up being damaged by the snake, as well as the cap on the entire backwater assembly, which neither we nor they knew was there. Though this did fix the backing up drain, we were then left with an inoperable backwater valve assembly that now didn't have a watertight lid. We let ProDrain know of the issue and they searched high and low for a replacement. Unfortunately, no parts could be found, as the assembly is from awhile ago and had no markings on it indicating a manufacturer. But did they quit? They did not! They ended up fashioning an operating valve and lid for the assembly, and came and installed it for us, all free of charge. This solution is far better than the over $6000 quote we received from another plumber to jackhammer out the entire assembly and replace it. I called today, early this morning (around 8:15am) and the lovely woman on the phone got me a same-day appointment, even though the weather has been inclement all morning. My window for service was 10 AM to noon, and my tech called me at 10:30am and let me know that he was on his way, and that he would be arriving in about 20 to 30 minutes, given the roads were a bit sketchy. Kyle was the technician, and he arrived at 11am, immediately getting to work. I also have a very young dog, and he is incredibly social, and Kyle was not bothered by my puppy greeting him at the door and watching while my bathtub drain was unclogged. The service was completed in under 10 minutes, and I think my bathtub actually drains better now than it did before the clog. I am absolutely impressed at the speed and professionalism with which ProDrain has treated me. ProDrain was a godsend to me in a very bad plumbing situation I just encountered in a century old Portland home. Not only did they provide good service at affordable rates. They modeled how a customer-friendly and transparent business should operate. My tenants came home one night to find backed up plumbing. Without notifying me, they called a different plumbing company I won't name with hundreds of horrific reviews, including one I just wrote. That company wanted to charge rates I knew were outrageous and I immediately refused to pay. Like $649.99 to unclog a floor drain, which my tenants guessed was the problem. ProDrain actually had unclogged the same drain, for a fraction of the cost, in 2020. I've hired ProDrain to unclog drains a number of times and they have always done that successfully, quickly, and affordably. So I had a situation where I told a scammy and overpriced plumber, "No," and understandably frustrated tenants with backed up plumbing. Not good! I called ProDrain the following morning at 8 AM. And their very friendly and knowledgeable receptionist Kay quoted me, at my request, both an affordable fixed rate for unclogging a floor drain as well as an hourly rate if they needed to snake the main line to the sewer. The rates were completely transparent, took 30 seconds to disclose, and were about one quarter of what the scammy company wanted to charge the night before to snake the wrong drain. ProDrain's friendly plumber Thomas was in the house within a few hours. I was not there, but what I learned through my tenant is he quickly figured out through some simple tests that the problem was almost certainly a main line clog - not the floor drain. He didn't waste time, or my money, trying to get me to agree to some outrageous price and sign a predatory contract like the scammer the night before. He just went to work trying to clear the clog in the line to the street. His final bill was $295.00, which was reasonable. And a fraction of the $1500 the scammer wanted to do the same thing the night before. Unfortunately for me and my tenants, in this case the problem ended up being a failing century old pipe to the street. Thomas was transparent about that as well, told me everything he could, and gave me some leads to call to get started on a much bigger project beyond the scope of what ProDrain does. I called him a few times afterwards with a few other questions, and he was very helpful and informative. Bottom line: this was the most difficult situation I've faced in 32 years as a property owner. Now it is fixed, and there are new sewer and water pipes. ProDrain did everything they could, honestly and affordably, just like they have every other time I hired them to fix much simpler plumbing problems. Having just dealt the night before with a different plumbing company that seemed to want to use this difficult situation to play "gotcha" with signed estimates and rip me off for as much as they could, I really appreciated ProDrain's competence, affordability, and integrity. My tenants, who had to live through this with me at their discomfort and my expense, told me they learned some good lessons from the experience. I think ProDrain and the other company I ended up hiring to repair the sewer line modeled how customer-friendly and affordable companies do business. Thanks! read more

I would have given ProDrain maximum 5-star rating, but Nick forgot to reconnect gutter downspout to drain pipe near SE corner of house and he left hose stretched out across front yard and walkway to front door. Living in an old house, some projects make hiring a pro no brainer. And I'm glad I did. I wanted a newer toilet installed. Messaged them and was giving a detailed message about what to expect. Call to make an appointment. Super friendly and made communication a breeze. So I was given a 1pm-3pm window. The tech pulled up to my house at 1:00pm on the dot! After a quick walk thru, he was off to work. So this is where things went wrong. Being an old house, there wasn't enough room to install a newer style. Tech explained and showed me everything and why it wouldn't work. At that point he gave us a few options. After explaining why we wanted a new one, he offered another option of pretty much rebuilding the old one. He even had the parts in his van! While not the style we wanted, it now functions like new!
