We had a drainage issue in the backyard, so we called Drainage Pros to come take a look. Unfortunately, our house was built nearly a hundred years ago, so the whole system of non-functional sumps and discharge lines needed to be rebuilt. Called Drainage Pros to schedule a sump pump replacement. Rich answered the phone and answered the call for help. He was very professional and was able to have Alberto come to the house within two days to replace the pump. Alberto is knowledgeable ... and resourceful. The new (and working) sump pump was not able to drain the yard because of a blocked drainage line. Alberto drove to the local Ace and picked up some pool hoses (corrugated hose was sold out). He used the hose to rig a temporary drainage line for the pump. This workaround should work for the next 2-3 weeks. Rich will have a crew come to repair the blocked drainage line within that time. I purchased my house in Richmond 3 1/2 years ago. There had been water under the house every winter since the house was built. Let me start with this...You do have to pay for the quote. You do have to maybe wait a few minutes past your appointment time. You may even wait to receive your estimate. But I can say it was all worth it. The lower level (basement) of my home flooded and had seen many contractors all confused about how to resolve my drainage issue. I had a REALLY bad situation and a unique circumstance being that I purchased the home from a flipper who covered everything up (another story). I searched online and found Drainage Pros. I decided to call them since their specialty was drains. I was given an appointment and the owner, Rich, showed up to assess the issue. He was really confident that his company could fix my problem by installing drains around the entire perimeter of my home and I was provided a quote shortly thereafter. This company is not the cheapest by any means... BUT they were the most knowledgeable. My project was a large project scheduled to take about 2 weeks. Lead Foreman Berto was assigned to my job and was very professional throughout the entire process. The company's workers always showed up on schedule and made things as comfortable as possible for me. Drainage Pros cleaned up the work area and left my home looking very clean and nice. I did end up having a very minor water intrusion issue a little after the drains were installed, but Rich made sure to get his crew out here and work to resolve the issue even if it meant opening back up a piece of the concrete to see below the ground. I absolutely love Rich's integrity and his willingness to make sure that his company's work is done well and that the customer is happy. I must say that this company has shown me that they stand by their word. Fast forward to a little over 2 years and the drainage system seems to be working as it should! I have not had any water appear on the floors of my lower level and I'm not as nervous about my property when it rains. I have a cottage, built on a concrete slab just a few years ago, that had developed a leak during heavy rains. In the very heavy storm of March, 2018, the cottage had an inch of water over the entire floor. A specialist had tried to remedy the problem a year earlier but was not successful. I called Drainage Pros and they were confident they could fix it. They dug beneath the soil to the base of the slab, waterproofed the wall, and installed new drainage. The next several rainy seasons never had a storm that matched the one of March of 2018--until our 8 inches of rain over a two-day period in October of 2021. Scheduled appt almost a month in advance 2-4 window. Was not sure about the $150.00 charge for an estimate but read the reviews and said ok. Got off work early to be here at 2 waited at 3:30 got a call from office asking about the her guy was there yet so said no he's not. She said she would call him and find out where he is. Rich called me 3:50 and said 30 min late so I wait another hr no call no show. So I call the office at 5 I guess it was time to go home no one answers. I called Drainage Pros out to my home to give me a quote to install a channel drain in my patio along the back of my home to prevent water backup in front of my patio door. Keep in mine to they charge a fee just to come out to give a quote. Rich arrived 2 1/2 hours late. We walk to the back of the house Rich, wets down the patio then sat down and started his sale pitch. Telling me I wouldn't be happy just installing a channel drain that I had a type A personality, He was so focus on asking what my budget was, which I was not going to tell him . All he wanted to do is sell me on replacing the concrete with pavers at a cost of 16,500 to 18,500 when all I wanted to do is fix the problem at the lowest cost possible which was a channel drain with bottom outlets connected to a drain line below the channel. Rich took the time to come out for an initial quote back in spring 2018. I won't lie, drainage work is not cheap. Of the three quotes we got, Drainage Pros were the most expensive, but they were also the most comprehensive. We sat on the quote for a while thinking "well, it's not raining anymore, lets just see. Do we really need this?". Fast forward to July and we were doing some house work and found mold under our floors in our house. As we were getting the mold cleaned up I made a panic call to Rich as I knew instantly that we had to deal with the source of the mold and not just the remediation. (I'll mention here that we live on a hill, up hill from one house and downhill from another. I'll also mention we have some plants on the uphill side that never get watered and yet are thriving even in this drought. So clearly water is coming from somewhere and when it goes to those plants, it also goes right under our house.) Rich bend over backward for us to get a crew together quickly and start the work. These guys did an amazing job. High quality work, well thought through plans, and construction quality that I know will last for a long long time. Rich, Alberto and their crew recently helped us out with an unusual need - a 70-year-old abandoned septic tank that had collapsed underground and formed a "sinkhole" in our back yard. We sent photos of the site and the limited access (no chance for heavy equipment). Rich stopped by to assess the situation, and quickly scheduled a crew to come out and manually dig out the old redwood box (about the size of a tall double bed six feet under ground!) and refilled and compacted the area with drain rock and soil. It was an incredible amount of hard work performed in two days by three men. They replaced our decorative rock on top, completed the job, and now the yard flows nicely and looks like nothing ever happened. Much respect for the work of Alberto and his crew. Rich and team provided excellent, quick and kind service. I left a message for them on a Friday afternoon, not expecting to hear back until the following Monday. Rich called me back Saturday morning, concerned my pump was flooding the house or there was a bigger emergency. Bart came out and fixed our pump, cleaned out the well and provided me tips on how to keep it clean. The top of the well was an old wood fitted piece that we had kept covered with heavy pots so that children and or animals wouldn't fall in. I asked Bart if anything could be done to make a more sturdy structure. He immediately said SURE! I called Rich, he cut me a deal on the service fee since they were just out. A week later Bart came back and fitted a manhole cover for the well. He was quick, cleaned up, helped move our heavy pots, and showed me how to move the cover when we needed to get in. I have been worried since we bought the house that something terrible would happen with the previous cover. In 2016, I had a serious drainage problem (18 inches of water in the sub area after a sump pump failure during EL NINO.) DrainagePros who installed a system around my townhome which included a sump pump to mitigate the ground water. Rich and his crew were wonderful to work with. But that's not all.....last weekend (Friday night) while out of state naturally, neighbors called to tell me that they heard an alarm going off in my garage. In a panic, I left a message for Terrie (4 or 5 times, I'm afraid) who called Rich who called me back and told me he and Alberto would get there to scope out the problem. Our experience with Rich and Drainage Pros was superior from start to finish. Our neighborhood in downtown Walnut Creek is notorious for poor drainage. Subsurface and French drains is never what anyone plans. Our house was well built, but drains had succumbed to relentless invasion by redwood tree roots. December's 10 inches of rain exposed the inadequacy of our drainage system. Rich Mariani's Drainage Pro team was responsive from the first call. The assessment and bid were comprehensive, followed by a detailed contract that spelled out every stage of work. Rich's well-trained team worked diligently for 4 weeks. I could see every day that Javier and his 5 men were organized, careful, and hard-working. Rich made a detailed inspection every week, and the team responded to every item that he identified. Rich was never too busy to answer questions and concerns as the project went on. A critical stage is putting everything back together. Rich upgraded our sprinkling system where new valves were needed, restored our landscape lighting, regraded the ground around the house, improved the stucco siding at the foundation, and carefully replanted every shrub and tree. He brought in skilled concrete finishers to recreate our pebble-textured driveway beautifully. They sifted through pebbles to make sure they matched what we had. It truly looked like the pavement had never been disturbed. Finally, he put a rat-proof concrete layer over our crawl space. Our lower level always had the earthy smell of a basement.
