Maicon and his crew finished our retaining wall this morning. It is incredibly beautiful and looks great. We are extremely happy with the wall. Almost more important to me was their work ethic. They had about 25 years worth of hedges, bushes and old railroad ties to remove before they could start working on the wall. They not only cut them down and hauled them away, they even raked and cleaned up all the debris and leaves. Then they started on the wall. The crew all worked as a team, very professional. When the crew left, our back yard was completely cleaned up and actually looked better than when they started! I am also not in any way paid to write this review, or a friend or a family member to post something nice about a business...just because I know them. I first contacted Maicon Cruz with Solo Pavers Expert, Inc. to stop by my home to give me a "solid firm total" quote to install pavers for my backyard. Not having to go over my budget or having to be charged way more than I agreed to after my home improvement project gets done. I was aware he was the only paver contractor with all Five Stars ***** reviews on Yelp.com posted by many reviewers online from his 115 previous clients. So, I felt more assured in his company's reputation. At my first meeting with Maicon, he told me he isn't cheap. I actually respect hearing that from him when he told me his services aren't cheap. I responded to him that I am not looking for a contractor that is cheap. But, I want to hire the Best-of-the-Best because I am expecting honest quality work and not something cheap for my home. I informed him I will want perfection in the job done and for everything to be done the right way with no shortcuts. It definitely wasn't cheap, but the investment in your own home is worth every penny and improves the value of our home for a lifetime. I also informed Maicon that I would like to fix up my backyard for my kids. It would mean the world to me to provide a safe place in my backyard for my kids to safely play; and allow them to have plenty of room to run around outside. We originally had a lot of old brick pavers and other pavers that were sinking/not level, and the ground itself was sloped towards the house, so the dirt needed to be re-graded. Maicon's team re-graded the dirt so that it was nice and level, and then put the pavers in and did a great job! They also took care to repair any broken or damaged sprinklers and made sure they weren't leaking before they installed the new pavers. Based on my bad experience, I had a list of question for Maicon--and he had all the right answers. The job was done beautifully and there was no sign of them when they were gone, except, of course, for my beautiful garden. I could not be happier. FYI, here's what you should ask anyone you're considering: Q: Will there be a foreman onsite? Wrong: He'll be managing several jobs. Call or text him if you have questions. Well, with all the good reviews, there is no need for me to say much about this company. This company is worth every dime you spend on your project. Believe me! I am very details oriented. I do thorough research and write all specifications for all our projects. I make sure the contractors follow my specifications accordingly. Maicon is very easy to communicate and work with. I provided my specification (dimensions, materials, steps to install pavers down to inches) for my driveway to five different companies. Maicon came back with a quote that is not the cheapest nor the most expensive. But it is competitive. After carefully reviewing all the quotes and asking a lot of questions (such as how long does it take to complete? How many people will be working? Etc.), I decided to go with this company. Even though it is not the cheapest. Maicon assigned this project to a team of five. Maicon came and went over my specification with the team leader, Will. Will and his crew did an incredible job transforming my driveway from concrete into a beautiful pavers driveway. They finished the job in eight hours (8am-5pm). This is unbelievable. Other companies quoted 5 to 7 days to finish the job. I was there along the way with Will and his crew the whole time making sure they ever need anything or questions for me. When I first saw their 80 something 5 star reviews, I was a bit skeptical but as I got to know them more, I realized that they deserve 10 stars indeed. That coming from a hard to please detail oriented person is a huge compliment. Before hiring Maicon, I had interviewed around 10 contractors. Some never got back to me. Some had an overpriced quote. Some didn't seem as professional, or knowledgeable. Maicon had it all; fair price, friendly, and professional manner, good communication skills, and great customer service. Before signing a contract, he came over three times to patiently go over all the details. I had very specific design ideas for him to implement . He made some additional suggestions and talked me out of some of those ideas that he didn't think would work well. Seeing the final product I'm glad I listened to him. Maicon's team was also a team of really nice people. His foreman, Will, was very patient, friendly, and easy to communicate with. He always had a smile on his face, was patient with my specific instructions , and did his job of leading the team really well . What impressed me the most was the team redoing an area in my front yard after realizing a miscommunication had happened about some implementation details. They did it without a single complaint, or a change of behavior. As another positive point, when they finished, they cleaned up very well after themselves and didn't leave a single trash behind. Hi All, I have to give Maicon and his crew of Solo Pavers expert a full 5 stars. They provide a very professional service. First, they are good in communication, like they immediately let me know , when there was one week delay in Belgard Pavers availability. I got quotes from few others - The higher rated services all quoted far premium prices . The individual paver guys quoted low, but are very difficult to hold onto. I found Solo Pavers striking the balance. From start to finish, the crew worked diligently and without any slack. They were done in 5 days, for pavers around 1000 sq. ft including demolishing a couple of concrete slabs, excavating with a BobCat, grading, laying pipes and electrical lines, filling with base rock, putting in Geo guards/gopher guards and finally laying the pavers. They also cleaned up the work/front-road each day before they left. I used Belgard Lafit Grana slab in Aspen Color and Catalina Grana in Graphite color for border. I got three quotes for my backyard hardscape that included removing an old, buckling wood deck and retaining wall on a steep backyard incline just above a recently plastered swimming pool. Solo Pavers was the best quote but Maicon (owner) was by far the easiest to talk to and took the time to really explain the job so that I would understand the cost and the scope. He was honest and forthright about all of my concerns. The finished job speaks for itself (see included photos) but what I can't show you is the respect the entire crew had for my home from front yard to backyard and including my barking dogs! I was able to talk and ask questions to crew leaders while they worked and if I had any concerns they quickly addressed them to my complete satisfaction. Today after they finished the final touches they washed off the entire hardscape including the old deck, power washed the STREET and my driveway where they had earlier staged gravel, dirt and the pavers as well as other supplies. Maicon Cruz and his company are AMAZING, and I do not use that word easily. We had a severely broken concrete driveway, riddled with roots from an unfriendly neighbor's tree. We were afraid to repair the driveway since we didn't want to deal with him in a request to remove the tree. Maicon handled EVERYTHING! Noting that the tree was older and unlikely to throw out more roots, his crew removed the tons of old cement, dug down, installed a root barrier, and drainage system, and leveled the driveway with our garage (previously 2" higher than driveway.). Beautiful pavers were installed. And all of this took place while we were out of the country! We had had enough contact with Maicon to trust him to work in our absence. He was extremely conscientious from the start. He promised to go to Marin County to find out about building permit the next day. Instead, he did it the same day. Every step of the process was on time or early, and he kindly sent us photos so that we could see the (very quick) progress. He was respectful of our (nice) adjacent neighbors, always let them know when access to their home might be impeded, and always had a driver who could move a truck on a moment's notice. We had recently installed an electric gate. Maicon was worried that the track for it might be damaged by heavy trucks. So he had part of the track removed during construction. This gave us much anxiety - how could it be rewelded well enough to make the track smooth again? No need for our anxiety - his welders did a superb job! And all of this for a very reasonable price! And it looks beautiful! What a gorgeous upgrade to our old, broken cement! In short, this company performed way beyond expectations, for a very fair price.
