Drake's 7 Dees services my sprinkler system, when we moved into this house the system had many deficiencies that they helped address at a fair price and since then they've helped keep it in good shape, when a repair is needed, they clearly explain why, what it will take to fix it, perform the repair to spec, charge fairly and document with pictures. Communicating with them is easy. Norman has been servicing the system from the beginning, he's very professional and knows what he's doing. read more

They do good work, friendly staff. Love our installation. But they charge a "service fee" to use a credit card. To me that is a very poor business practice. For a large contract installation (0urs was almost $50,000 when all done) I can understand the policy. I cannot understand it for anything under $5,000. It is very petty and is a poor consumer business practice that needs to change for me to outright recommend them. read more

I had the best experience with Nadia at Drake's 7 Dees today! It was a Monday morning so not many people there but she literally spent an hour helping me choose plants to add curb appeal to my friend's home before it goes on the market. The planting strip looks a lot better in person (the flowers look so tiny in the photo) but the potted plant arrangements came out amazing. I could never have done this on my own and I think I may drive out of my way to this nursery to get Nadia's help for my own plants :) read more

Wife and I are in the market for a renovation of our backyard and looking to hire a design team that can both design and build it to specification. The Drake team while nice on the phone, based their entire decision on a 5 minute conversation with me and looking at our house on Google Earth. This firm seems far too picky with their clientele and all the other firms we've contacted will come out to do a consult for free..... even if that means the design and build won't happen until after their busy season. As unfortunate as the experience was, it's all good though. We will find someone else to spend money with. read more

I went into 7 Dees looking for some inspiration to re-landscape my planting beds. It's overwhelming to pick out plants, not knowing how they will grow as they mature, getting the right balance of proportions and if they will thrive in a certain area. Patrick was a huge help in guiding me to the right selections. I'm so happy with my planting beds now and can't wait to see them grow in! I really appreciated the service and extra effort he put in. Drakes did an outstanding job with our new water feature and new major front yard design. Their landscape designer was very attentive and listen to our likes and concerns every step during the process. We had some serious drainage issues that were challenging but our designer came up with great solutions. We also had a water feature originally built in 1991 that needed some major work and updated design. The water feature turned out to be a beautiful focus in our new front yard. The process of creating a new landscape can be stressful at times but Drakes 7 Dees kept us updated with project every step of the way which helped minimize the stress. First the positives- it's quick, and convenient, and the employees are friendly. Now for the 2nd part. There's not much to choose from, and the quality of care seems to have gone down with each visit. Many of the plants look sad and wilted. I did leave with 3 flowered plants thinking it would be cheaper than New Seasons, and I didn't want the drive out to Cornell Farms. The 3 plants are somewhat sad looking, but I think I can bring them back. I dropped into New Season's for some lunch and to check out their selection afterwards. New Seasons had the same plants, healthy as can be, and $3.99 a plant. The ones I got at 7 Dees were $4.50 each. New Seasons also had a much larger selection, which is almost unbelievable considering NS only has 1 row of flowered plants, in front of the carts outside. 2016 #16 read more

I put off writing this review, hoping for some resolution, but without any closure to the situation, I hope that sharing my story will help others be aware when entering into a relationship with the company. My husband and I reached out to a few different landscape designers when we decided we needed professional help designing our new house's yard. We were very upfront from the very beginning that we were primarily seeking a design only - something which we could execute over the long-term (like, 5-10 years) as our budget didn't position us to do a complete makeover all at once. Drake's seemed the most promising, and after meeting with a designer, we signed a contract for a landscape design, stipulating that the process would include a meeting to discuss our preferences, a site evaluation, an initial concept presentation, the chance to offer feedback, a design revision incorporating our feedback, and then a final plan. The form we filled out included our expected budget for the future installation, which was modest. We paid a deposit equal to half of the total price, which was several hundred dollars, and were excited to move forward. We thought the designer was a good match and we enjoyed working with him. I was pregnant at the time, and our meeting to see the initial concept was just a few weeks before the baby was due. The initial design focused on the backyard, which was our priority, and had some rough outlines for the front yard. Some of the designer's ideas didn't quite line up with ours, so we talked about some changes to the plan, and our designer said he would work on the next version, including filling in more of the plan for the front yard. We left the meeting feeling positive. This was in July 2017. That was the last we heard from the designer for a very long time. After giving birth and facing some unforeseen medical concerns, the landscape design fell down our priority list, so we didn't follow up immediately. After hearing nothing, I reached out to our designer via email in the spring (the following May, 2018) to check on the status of our contract. He wrote back, and seemed unclear on where we were in the process and asked for a budget (which we had already provided in the initial paperwork). He also offered to meet the following week (in May). I replied with a date to meet. Then he didn't respond, and the week passed. I emailed again, asking when he was available to meet. The response I received was a shock: "I apologize but we are very busy. As of 2018 we've implemented a minimum project budget of $20K which is not inline with the landscape planning questionnaire that you've provided to me. Also, I have used all of my 12 design hours for your project. At this point I can refer you to a division of our company called greenstart. They do bid only work. How does this sound? We are also booked out for installations to August now. Right now I am fully booked for the 2018 season." At our last meeting, our designer had talked about moving forward on the next stage of the design for a second draft and gave no indication that he had used up the time he had estimated the project would take. It was a friendly meeting, where he greeted our dog and wished us well with the baby's arrival. Now, he was tersely telling us that he was done working with us, despite not completing the design that we had begun together and without any prior warning. If it hadn't been for the months of radio silence on Drake's end, we would have been more blindsided. We had already had a sinking feeling that something was wrong when we heard no word for months, but this confirmation still hit us hard. I cc'd the owner, Drake Snodgrass, on our next email and requested a refund of the deposit we'd paid on the project, considering it wasn't completed and we had nothing useable, but were denied. I then asked for a termination of the contract in writing. Our designer promised to send a termination of contract in writing. I never received it. In his final communication to me, he (our designer) said that if I needed to discuss this further, phone was best. I called, but his voicemail box was full. I sent a text, which went unanswered. I can't count the minutes I have wasted reflecting on every communication between us and our designer, trying to identify where the miscommunication was or why things ended so abruptly. The only conclusions I can draw are that the designer misjudged his hours and prematurely used up the time allotted, and that the company ultimately did not value us as clients because of our modest budget and chose to discard us. We did everything we could to have an honest, transparent, respectful, and successful relationship with Drake's 7 Dees. But at the end of the day, the abrupt and utter lack of basic customer service made us feel that they see no value in our business at present, or in the future. read more

Stopped by here today for a couple houseplants. I keep driving by it so I was glad to take a look. Really cute green house/cashier area. Lots of great plants for home, office or gifts. Lots of succulents and those popular "air" plants in all different shapes and sizes. They also had all kinds of colorful pots for very reasonable prices. I bought one small pot and (2) house plants for about $23. Left me alone to shop and asked if I needed help - I asked about the care of one of the plants and he was very helpful. We had a very nice conversation. I can't wait to stop by in the spring and see everything in bloom. read more

I reached out to this company to get an estimate and the kept stringing me along and after several days and emails replying back and forth I said I'd work around their schedule and agreed on a time that worked for them. They were supposed to show up today - well not only did they not show up but they also did not email or call me to notify me or to reschedule. I was emailing with someone named Nick. I had them redo my entire front yard and parking strip plantings. Plants supposedly come with lifetime warranty, but it is not honored. I've been calling for three yrs to have a hydrangea that is different specie /color from others - does not match. All i get is a run-around from the owner. Update: October 29th After 3 years, Drake finally swapped out the plant. Still, only 3 stars for all the frustration and wait. Thank God for Yelp! read more

We went here when we found out that Portland Nursery didn't have barley bales (for algae control in ponds) in stock yet. We discovered quickly that Drake's is a bit cheaper overall than Portland Nursery and also that they seem to carry more pond care supplies year round than Portland Nursery. But, I was disappointed when it came to their fish selection...they only have Koi, and even worse, they are $30 for about a 4 inch fish and $40 for a slightly larger one. I have never been in the market for Koi before, so I don't know if this is a competitive price or not, but I knew that I wasn't going to pay it... The good news was that when we asked the pond care expert guy where we could buy regular old gold fish, he made a funny face and answered the obvious "There is a Petco down the road..." I love that he didn't insist on us going to some kind of specialty pond shop and paying 3 times as much as Petco.... To sum it up: for pond supplies, this is your place, and the service is helpful and unpretentious. I didn't love the plant selection as much, and the inner store seemed to cater to more "cutesy" garden supplies than practical, but overall they seemed to have some good prices. I shop at Dennis' 7 Dee's weekly. Today, I stopped into Drake's looking for houseplants. As I entered the greenhouse, an employee and I made eye contact. I smiled through my mask, but nothing. Whether she could tell or not? Who knows. Either way, she simply looked away and walked elsewhere. Absolutely no acknowledgment. As I continued browsing, I encountered another employee who I also made eye contact with. She just looked at me and didn't say a word either. I don't know what was going on, but it definitely wasn't a welcoming experience for me. The employees seemed to be very friendly and helpful toward other customers, but had no interest in me. There were a few plants I wanted to purchase, but I refuse to support a business that lacks the simplest form of customer service. I will not be back to Drake's. I will continue supporting Dennis' as their employees are always very delightful and welcoming. read more

I went in to purchase a hanging basket. The price indicated on the ENTIRE row of the same baskets was $24.99. I took the basket I picked out to the register and the clerk said it was $34.99 but if I signed up for the "maple card" I could get the basket for $29.99. She had someone meet me in the garden area where the baskets were marked $24.99 and the person in the garden area said only a select few baskets were actually $29.99 (the $24.99 price was if you had a "maple card" and the one I picked out from the SAME row of baskets was $34.99.) However, if I signed up for the "maple card" I could get the basket for $29.99. It would be nice if they would just sell the baskets for the price listed on the sign above the baskets. Instead of all the hassle. I had a gift card I needed to use or else I would have just left and purchased a basket somewhere else. It appeared the rest of the plants were way overpriced as someone else noted on an earlier review. Its a shame as I enjoy supporting local businesses, however, I will NOT return to Drake's 7 Dees due to the inconsistent pricing. read more

I used to love 7 Dees as a child. My mom would pull me around the nursery in my little red radio flyer. I'd run around the pond section that was full of animal statues. It was a magical place. I thought it was so neat that they sold bags of live ladybugs and I always wanted to buy some. Fast forward 20 years.... This place is lame. They remodeled and it is no longer a childs magic garden. It's stiff and full of ugly shrubs for tacky landscaping. They are also way over priced. They wanted 36 bucks for a tropical canna lilly, I bought that shit for 14.99 at a different garden center. They have chicken coops for $500.00. Any crafty person with an empty weekend could build one for $50.00 in materials. 7 dees, you depress me now. read more

He spent more time asking us questions and providing visuals to guide our plan. We have used Drake for many different projects in our yard. He and his team are one of the few companies I look forward to working with again and again. I also appreciate their willingness to answer questions and provide resources regardless if it results in additional work for them or not. Trying to support my local businesses during these troubled times I headed to Drake's to buy a few things since it is about 5 minutes from my house. Unfortunately I didn't buy a thing there due to the arrogance of the employees. Most were wearing masks but two that I saw were not including the head person I believe. This is just rude in my book and then when someone started coughing near the register I dropped everything I wanted to purchase and walked out !! How ridiculous..... a business should be all in to protect its employees and customers or stay closed !!! Never again !! read more

This long time Northwest company was recommended by a friend and was our top choice when we tackled our first landscaping job 20 years ago. We had a challenging project, but Drake's vision turned it into a serene, outdoor living space. His team was friendly, caring, and dedicated, but most of all they were knowledgeable. Drake not only listened to our ideas but also applied his vision. His years of experience, planning and careful selection of plantings created a space where something is always blooming, continually catching your eye, making you stop and admire what nature is doing right at this moment. We called them back recently to create a fenced garden area, which may be the best thing we have ever done. This place has really gone down hill. Hard to park, no more coffee shop, broken glass around the structure. And expensive for a lot of stuff I've seen there for ages. I was just there before Thanksgiving and it was beautiful with fall color. I had a really helpful houseplant gal (Elaine?). She made me a beautiful succulent centerpiece and educated me on all the plants in it. Another recent visit and I didn't see her but the rest of staff seemed unmotivated and uncaring. One older blonde woman was rude to me--only talking about herself as a "designer" and treated me like I was stupid. Whatever. Maybe good landscape designers but the state of their store is a joke. I didn't purchase anything this last visit and will likely not return. There are better places to go if you are a plant person! read more
