My daughter wanted a smaller party, with herself and 4 guests and they were very accommodating. We chose the "dazzling davinci" package, which includes a full size picture. When we arrived for the party, I informed that we had only had 2 people confirmed to attend, and one was going to be late (softball picture day, apparently). The staff said this was no problem, and said we could start as they came in. My daughter and her first guest got started, but while a staff sat and gave step by step to the friend, my daughter was given starter instructions and I had to prompt not once or twice but many times for the next steps. The third guest arrived shortly after and a second staff sat with her, again giving step by step instructions while my daughter, the birthday girl, was left hanging. This was quite frustrating, but my kid took it in stride. A third guest arrived when our time was almost up, so while I understand she couldn't complete a whole picture, we were told that she could free paint but they were out of full size paper (which of course, we had paid for! ) . The package was also supposed to include nail art (or glass coloring), which they did not do. We were supposed to have had a reserved party area for 2 hours, but another party was scheduled to overlap ours which was incredibly awkward, so we rushed through cupcakes and snacks, etc. The "deluxe" party favor included 3 dumdum lollipops, a hard candy, a cheap plastic ring and a tiny plastic wand. They did accomodate face paintings for the late guests, which was nice. However, I was disappointed in their uneven distribution of attention, and running out of the supplies we had paid for. Over all, I likely won't reccomend a party here.

The teachers and staff are absolutely the best people you can find and have all been there for a long time. You absolutely need to check this place out if you are looking for a daycare. They service newborns though after school care in Elementary. The manager has been there for a long time and she is amazing (Rocio) and the teachers all have been there for years and years and are all SO GOOD with the kids. Our two year old comes home saying please and thank you and knowing his numbers and letters so well. They are so good with kids and teach them way more than we ever expected even from very young ages. Honest review here from a parent - they are the best and been the best decision ever to have our kids here. I see notes that they don't have locking doors - but they do! They installed them and they are very safe and I have no concerns about the doors locking and safety of the kids inside. I also see notes about dirty - and I do not feel this is true. Yes the place is not brand new, but it is absolutely clean and they do a great job cleaning toys everyday here as well to keep kids from spreading germs. They have wonderful outdoor areas for kids to play on structures and run around, ride bikes, or shoot hoops.

The kids play indoors in the morning, do crafts and the teacher even provides snacks for the kids. Then the kids play outside for almost an hour every day! The only downside of the co-op model could be the parent volunteer requirement (1-2 classroom days a month and some weekends) which can be tough for busy parents. However, it's really fun to be in the classroom with your kiddos if your schedule allows it. If you are looking for a way to ease into preschool, meet your local community and give your child a great place to learn social-emotional skills, it is wonderful!

ISP creates joy…read more Happy and educated children is what I see at ISP whenever I'm on campus. The combination of language immersion and IB education (inquiry-based) is amazing. These children come out with a global mindset treating others with respect snd care. We looked at a number of schools in Portland and ISP is the best. Seeing 5th graders graduate fully fluent in Spanish, Japanese or Mandarin is amazing. And hearing stories of ISP graduates in college and beyond who use the skills and language they learned at ISP daily, reaffirms why we believe this is the best school in Portland. Additionally, the location makes school accessible to families living all over Portland. Being centrally located (near public transit, bike paths, highways, etc.) means the students learn about city and have easy access to museums, theater, and more for field trips. Before enrolling her, we were concerned about whether she could succeed in learning a foreign language at such a young age and whether she might fall behind in other subjects. However, our fears were unfounded. She, along with her classmates, quickly picked up Spanish. Additionally, attending a diverse school where Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese are predominantly used has allowed her to appreciate and celebrate different traditions and cultures. If you are looking for true diversity, you will have trouble finding more of it at any other school in the area. Remarkably, she and many of her classmates significantly outperform state averages in reading in English and math as evidenced by standardized test scores, demonstrating that language immersion has not hindered her overall academic progress. The inquiry-based learning process of the school's International Baccalaureate program has fostered her curiosity, creativity, and independent critical thinking. In one of her classes students can volunteer to present "mini-lessons" on topics of interest. Recently, she presented a lesson on DNA, displaying an impressive understanding of a complex subject that I didn't learn about until high school or college. I've also been impressed with the quality of her art classes. Unlike the simple arts and crafts of my childhood, she has learned about art history and various artists. When we visited a Frida Kahlo exhibit, she provided insightful commentary on Kahlo's background and influences. Similarly, she recognized the influence of Vincent Van Gogh in a painting by Edvard Munch, showcasing her knowledge and keen eye for art. The small class sizes not only provides more personalized attention from the teachers, it also fosters a culture of kindness (her class this year had a 12:1 student-teacher ratio, about half of what it is at area public schools). While the school is located in downtown Portland, it's a bit hidden. It's a safe oasis on a quiet dead-end street, easily accessible by bike, streetcar, MAX, bus, and car due to its central location. When we lived in The Pearl District, I could bike my daughter to school on dedicated bike paths for most of the route. If you are looking for a truly differentiated education for your child that will lay a foundation for them to thrive in a shrinking global community & economy I'd encourage you to check out the International School of Portland.
