Drea is a wonderful dog trainer and a great person to know and hang out with and talk to. She breaks down training in a way that's tailored to the dog owner's capability and need. She understands dogs exceptionally well. This is her passion. This is her love and I definitely feel that when I speak to her and the way that she interacts with my pup. We've had five sessions so far and in those five sessions, along with the homework that I gladly do, I have helped my dog be more controlled on the leash and be more controlled and regulated at home. She's more comfortable and more confident now than she was when I got her. Even though I know the work isn't over, I'm confident knowing that I have Drea to help me and to inform me on best practices. Drea is a FANTASTIC dog trainer and person and we truly don't know where we'd be without her! We rescued our dog Otis in September 2019 from hurricane Dorian. He's a 2 year old American Staffie/Basset Hound/Chow/Terrier mix from Florida--a sweet, cuddly, goofy, hunk. Otis was SO ready to be loved and properly cared for, but as he settled into his new home it became clear he had never been socialized, showed physical and emotional signs of severe abuse, and had major anxiety/fear of strangers. We felt in over our heads, and worried Otis might harm someone out of fear (no fault of his own) but felt committed to giving Otis every chance we could to thrive. We found Drea on Yelp and were drawn to her experience with rescue dogs in particular. We contacted her right away and had an appointment set up within days. Drea came to our apartment to meet us and Otis and it instantly felt like the stars had aligned. She had total confidence upon meeting him-- no fear, and a great openness and connection with him and us. The first thing she said when she met Otis was "ok, you guys got yourself a real southern hound!" We knew we had found the right person. Drea observed right from the start that Otis is a pack dog and how important it was going to be for us to grow his pack and take steps to build both his and our confidence. Over the last 10 months we've learned how to use our voices, bodies and body language to do everything from solidifying Otis' basic obedience skills to being able to take Otis and ourselves out of our comfort zones and introduce new people, places and experiences into our lives. The results are tangible--a traumatized rescue who used to cower and tuck his tail between his legs on walks now barks with enthusiasm to go outside and wags his upright tail like a helicopter. Otis' behavior with, and fear of strangers is also noticeably different. His default reaction used to be aggression, but he's learned to control those urges, be calm and put his trust in us that all is okay. While we and Otis still have work ahead of us, the tools Drea has and continues to give us have provided invaluable confidence, patience, and a keen understanding of what it means, and what's needed to own and love a rescue pup. I have been seeing Drea since 09/2017. The first month we did training twice a week. Our focus for, Chase(20lb Boston terrier), was to get him to be friendly/ positively calm around dogs. I got him like at 2 years and 10 months. He is now turning 8 years old and have had him for five years. We had another dog and he was good with her and my family's dog. But I wanted him to be able to go back to the dog park and do pack walks. I have had at least 5 different trainers all of which just did not fit Chase's needs. After the severe behavioral issues of my Boston pit, Raven (RIP), I had to put her down. And none of the trainers I worked with really could tap into her deep buried triggers. I was broken and torn apart still from having to put her down. I felt hopeless that no trainer was able to help. Drea came in and did a 2 hour assessment with Chase and targeted exactly what we were gonna start with: and we are now able to walk past dogs and have him not Lunge or bark like crazy. He is able to sniff dogs and pack walk. We have already been in the dog park once and are working on that this coming spring. I never thought, at the age of 7 we could change his behaviors. But we are able to meet and walk with other dogs. He is becoming playful with dogs instead of being serious all the time around dogs. He understands social cues and realizes in intense situations of anxiety, he does not have to react. He can simply step back from meeting dogs if it becomes too much. Andrea is incredible! She has worked with my 7 year old brussels griffon for the past few months and has almost entirely eliminated his fear aggression and territorial behavior. She is extremely accommodating in terms of scheduling appointments, and she did a lot of one-on-one work with my dog, both of which were very helpful given my busy schedule. She is also extremely knowledgeable about diet and health issues that could be triggering behavioral problems, and she is in constant communication via text message for any issues that may come up and to check in on progress.
