Recently I got a red long haired female as an emotional support dog for my husband who has dementia. Zoey has been a game changer for both of us - my husband now smiles and laughs and gets up early to take care of her. I have a loyal loving friend who is devoted. She is happy and healthy and relatively easy to train. (Meaning I am well trained) Bear in mind, I called ahead to see if there was a black and red or a cream long haired male puppy. Okay. I'm really really disappointed I have to do this, but the public deserves to know. Let me start by saying I am a dachshund advocate for Travis county. I own them, and I constantly work with rescues to get dachshunds in our community placed. In the past, I supported this business, thinking that it may have also been helping the dachshund community. I've shared multiple of their posts when they try to help, and I engaged with their posts. Commenting and following up with potential adopters, Sharing them in local dachshund groups, and boosted them for the algorithm. I recently caught on to an extremely shady backyard breeding process they were partaking in: using the mom up in her fertile years and then dumping her off. This is called a "discarded breeder" or "spent breeder" in the dog breeding world. If they cared about the dogs under their care, they would continue to value the dogs after their money-making years. Rehoming a dog after 6-7 years is traumatic for a dog who has only known their home, and should only be done for extreme circumstances: dogs are family, and dachshunds are extremely sensitive to this. They bond deeply with what they know and their pack. Dachshunds should not be discarded and forced to go through a mid-life rehoming just because they aren't cash cow for the owner anymore. This told me that these people don't care about dachshunds at all, they care about money. Once she was no longer a cash cow for them, they don't care about providing care for her. I went back and saw they did this with multiple adult female dachshunds. After seeing this, I (very politely) left a message to them, essentially saying that I don't think it's a good idea to be discarding the mothers after their breeding years, because of how deeply dachshunds bond. The owner's response: not answering my question, but quickly erasing my comment and blocking me from the group and page, after all I've done positively. Because I caught onto something shady and dared to ask a question about it. If this is how they view dachshunds, why would you ever leave your dachshunds in their care? Your beloved is just a money source for them, hidden behind clever Facebook posts that make them seem like they care. I would absolutely not trust these people with any dog. Do better. These are real dogs with real feelings. Not a substitution for a 9-5 job. read more

This place is outstanding - Sherry and her team are the best and i wouldnt let my sausage go anywhere else - friends and colleagues offers to look after him but i know hes safe and happy here! i get updates during his stays and i know when he comes home hes had the best time! Hes an anxious pup and cries if i leave the room - this is the only place he never looks back and he is happy to see the team there! Dream A Dream is quality operation, professional, well run facility, with a very kind staff. We adopted a dachshund from them last year. I can't say enough good about Dream a Dream Dachshunds. We had lost our little princess that we had rescued when she was a puppy and at thirteen and a half passed away in her sleep. We have another dachshund that we had just adopted and had bonded with her and was at a loss when she passed. We had searched all over the country trying to find a young female that could keep up with our 3 year old girl and located one at Dream a Dream. We took a trip down from Montana rescue her and give her a forever home. I was extremely impress not only with the excellent staff, but with the grounds and the services that they provide. Wow, just wow. I'm sharing our story so others don't have to deal with the owner and her disgustingly rude attitude. I'm truly disappointed in this business. My boyfriend and I, along with our family, were looking to adopt another dachshund to give our current one a companion. Dachshunds are our favorite breed and we've had many over the years so we are very knowledgeable when it comes to their personalities, health conditions, and behavior. We made a call to the owner and left her a message only to get a disappointing response. She called us back and asked a few questions (such as "what's your price range?" And "do you have kids?" to which we replied we "have no price range and no kids either" ) before she said "I'm going to stop you right there. It sounds like you are looking for something fun to do and not to actually get a dog to have long term." Wrong. We are long time dachshund owners who love our dogs like they're our children and she had the audacity to turn us down based on a phone call and a few questions. I'm not sure why she was so rude to us but the entire conversation was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. She also made other comments such as "if we came out to see dogs, we'd just be wasting her time" and if she let us adopt a dog, "we'd just be bringing it back a week later" . My brother has rescued dogs from her before but sadly we will no longer be promoting her business due to this incident. This past weekend, my fiance and I purchased a beautiful little Dachshund from Sherry. Upon arrival, we were greeted by many little pups, all of whom were so well behaved and soooo adorable! This was our first dachshund, so we had many questions for Sherry, all of which she answered. She even inspected a few of the dogs we were interested in to make sure their bone structure and anatomy was good (even though the vet had already inspected all of the pups). We ended up leaving with our little furry love and couldn't be happier! We give our experience 5 stars, but would give more if we could! Horribly unprofessional! My family has bought 2 female dapples over the past 2 years as well as bred one of them to her "proven stud" Noah. The buying process is great...of course she is getting our money. Calling to ask questions about dogs or shots is a nightmare. I adopted one dog here. I called Sherry last Friday afternoon and talked with her briefly to set up a follow up appointment in person for her to meet with myself and my younger brother who was looking to adopt a dog. After speaking with Sherry, I had my brother follow up the following morning to confirm an in-person meeting that day. His call was met with hostility and he was told by Sherry that "it would be a waste of [her] time to meet in person" to meet any of the dogs available. I attempted to follow up with Sherry but was hung up on with no explanation. After some time and a second attempt at working with (or dealing with) Sherry and DAD, it has not been a good experience and I wanted to other people know what to expect when coming here. Sherry is nice to deal with until she does not get her way or your money. Past that, she is a vindictive and angry person with no regard for common courtesy and will belittle you for simply attempting to entertain the idea of adopting through her business. In the end you have a choice where to bring your dogs and your business and I would not choose to deal with Sherry or Dream a Dream. I wish that I could agree with the other positive reviews of this business, but unfortunately I cannot. We have had two beautiful doxies in our family, and sadly lost one of them recently after 17+ years. We were looking for a new family member to love - but found Sherry very difficult to work with. She couldn't remember when her litter of puppies was born, she couldn't remember when they were supposed to be weaned and given to new families, she changed her pricing multiple times and couldn't remember what she had told me from one time to the next. The worst incident was during a phone call when she went off the deep end when I reacted to her telling me that she really didn't have time to deal with the puppy end of her business because she is so busy with the boarders. She cried and hung up on me. We "got straight" a few days later and agreed that my husband and I would purchase a puppy from her and that we needed to give her a 50% deposit - we then received an invoice for the full amount of the purchase rather than the agreed upon 50%. I asked her about this, and then received a "we will not be selling you a puppy after all" email. This has been a very difficult situation, we were so looking forward to our new baby joining our family, but Sherry was not going to let this happen. I can't say enough about Dream A Dream Dachshunds and Sherry! We found Sherry by chance over 11 years ago when we were looking for a family pet. Not only does Sherry continually educate herself as a breeder, she treats her fur babies and fur baby families like her own family. Since we got our first puppy, Roy, who is now 11, we also added Bella to our family, from Dream A Dream, almost 9 years ago. In addition, we breed Bella with a Dream A Dream stud 7 years ago and have one of those puppies, Lucy. Over the years Sherry has been a constant and reliable source for us and our family. She is always willing to offer us advice and provide us with practical solutions. Sherry genuinely cares about all animals and the families whom adopt and/or purchase dogs from Dream A Dream. I have never had her say no and is always more than willing to put herself and offer her time and expertise. Over a year ago we rescued 2 pups. One had scares from an unknown event. When we wen to the facility to meet the pups we were kind of rushed to take them. They both were happy to be held and didn't show any signs of drama or issues. We were even encouraged just to hold them in our lap as we were told there was no need to crate them in the car. At this point we haven't even paid for them and was told we could the next day. Thought that was odd! 1st issue later that day as we stopped at Arnies pet supplies for dog toys. We leashed them and the one with scares started screaming and resisting as one was beating it with a stick! Seriously people were giving us the evil eye! Then we realized why we were rushed from the rescue like we were because we had leashes in hand there and they didn't want us seeing that there. I can give you the details on how this poor pup that must of been tortured has been a total nightmare for our family but that's too much to put here. We have multiple time tried to contact the rescues by both emails and phone but they have chosen not to reply. I would not recommend this puppy farm to anyone! read more

In addition to Dachshunds, Dream-A-Dream also breeds and sells Shetland Sheepdogs aka Shelties. I purchased a 6 month old Sheltie from Sherry at Dream-A-Dream in June of 2013. Upon bringing home my new puppy I discovered she was covered in fleas, requiring multiple baths. A few days later I took my puppy to the vet. The vet diagnosed her with patent ductus arteriosis or PDA. Left untreated PDA will cause congestive heart failure resulting in death usually by a year or two of age. The vet rated my puppy's PDA a six on a scale of one through six. My vet stated a PDA of this nature would have been detected by the vet when the puppy was examined at the time of first vaccinations. After discovering this news I contacted Sherry. Sherry stated she does not offer health guarantees on the animals she sells. Sherry stated she would take the dog back and refund my money. Because of my puppy's age, I had doubts as to if she would be probably treated if I returned her to the breeder so I decided to keep her and deal with the cost of surgery (which exceeded $3500). AKC recommends the following "Dogs in whom PDA has been diagnosed, with or without surgical correction, should not be used for breeding. Their parents should not be bred either, and siblings should only be used after careful screening. If any affected offspring are born, breeding of the parents should be discontinued." Use caution if purchasing a puppy of any breed from Dream-A-Dream and require a health guarantee. In addition: Sherry's comment about there being two sides to a story is laughable. Her feelings were hurt because I told her in my opinion she was not a responsible breeder. After I told her about my puppy's condition, her first comment was that she does not offer a health guarantee and I could give the dog back. She has not apologized for her role in this situation. I have purchased other dogs before and never have I experienced such blatant disregard for the health of a dog. Today, my dog is happy and healthy, free of a deadly heart condition. read more

I just brought home the sweetest long hair dachshund puppy from Dream a Dream Dachshunds, her name is Cookie. Sherry was incredibly helpful in making recommendations across the board, and this meant a lot with me being a first time puppy mama. Cookie has the best temperament, and I can tell Sherry took impeccable care of her before handing her off. I contacted Sherry in March of 2017 looking for a Dachshund puppy. She welcomed my family into her home, brought out all of her puppies and let us spend lots of time with them before deciding which one we wanted (have you every had to choose one Dachshund puppy? The choice is not easy). My gorgeous long-haired Doxie puppy has been in my home for a couple of months now and is a treasure! He was 5 months old when we got him and was already potty trained. I recently adopted a little female Sherry was re-homing and, having a history in animal welfare and 20 years in dachshund rescue, I am a pretty picky person. Sherry had to pass my test before my little one was even considered. She is a dedicated rescuer as well as breeder. She knows what it takes to be a dachshund guardian and I passed her test as being a good match for my girl. My new one is healthy and happy and while she was super-attached to Sherry and a little unsure of me, in short order she became my shadow thanks to her learning early that humans are meant to be trusted and loved, a message given to her by Sherry.
