I complimented my meal with a $7.00 peach martini which was another awesome treat. I believe all of their cocktails may be $7.00 (don't quote me on this). This is a great place for a date night. It's very intimate and upscale without feeling pretentious. The standout part of our meal was the duck confit risotto. it was amazing!! I absolutely loved the flavors of this dish. The tuna tartare was also very good. Creme brûlée is one of my all time favorite favorite desserts, and they do it well here! My only complaint is that all of the cocktails I've ever ordered here are too sweet and lacking any real flavor other than that of sugar. Also, the service was very friendly and attentive, but I didn't feel there was a real in depth knowledge of the menu. I was looking for some recommendations from the server and was basically told everything here is good....but from what I can see, it is :) Cute date night spot that is worth a try if you're in the area! read more

Our server Hakim was very attentive and very instructive with regards to the menu. He is able to explain any of the menu items in detail. The food was cooked to perfection and the charcuterie board appetizer is a must. We especially enjoyed the seared scallops and whitefish at this dining experience. This is a nice neighbor place with good food. My husband had the divers scallops with gnocchi and I had the seafood fra diavolo. This place would have gotten a better review if: 1-The service had been better. The place was not that busy and when the waiter would finally come out of the kitchen, he'd look towards our table and keep going. We had to flag him down every time. By comparison, the busboy was great and attentive to what was going on with his tables. 2-The puffed pastry on my banana caramelo dessert had not been burned on the bottom. I can't believe they were serving that to paying customers. It was obvious that the burnt part extended beyond just my serving. It took me a while to figure out what the weird taste was, but I turned the pastry over to reveal the burnt part. I left it on the plate that way and the same waiter looked at it when he cleared it away and never said a word. He obviously doesn't give a hoot about his customers and has no pride in his job or restaurant. read more

Wow. Stepped into this place on a lark; it's close to the crib and accessible. It was the first warm day of our spring, and we wanted to sit outside, so we sat on their patio. (Behind the wall, and 15 feet away, is a bus terminal, but it wasn't as much of an issue as I thought.) I got the three course meal, with shrimp, roasted chicken, and lemon sorbet. She got the steak frites. Our wines were pretty good, and while service was somewhat spotty, they were attentive when they did show up. I do not think I've EVER had as juicy a chicken breast as I had there EVER. And I've been eating chicken for a long damned time. Chicken breasts are a challenge to cook and keep the juiciness in, and most are dry as hell. This chicken was cooked excellently. I couldn't get over that. SO GOOD. read more

I fell in love with this place about two years ago. The food, environment, service-- everything from start to finish was and continues to be sensational! Ace was our server last night, and he was accommodating, attentive, and friendly. We started off with the grilled calamari and a pitcher of martini. Get the pitcher if you have at least four people who are going to drink, it's worth it. The calamari is my personal favorite at Jack's. It tastes like the grill and the pesto-marinara sauce that they pair it with is out of this world! Last night I ordered the scallops. This is the dish that won my heart the first time. And it definitely did not disappoint me last night. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the whole-grain gnocchi was light and well seasoned and so was the sauteed spinach. I love the white-truffle parmesan cheese sauce that covers this entree. It leaves me licking my plate! I also tried the "Pork Tasting" which i'd give 3.5 stars. The ribs were terrific and Asian BBQ sauce that they're tossed in is tangy and delicious. Memphis pulled pork on focaccia is also outstanding-- similar to a deconstructed version of a pulled pork sandwich. The grilled pork tenderloin I could have done without. It was rather dry and I wish I could have had more ribs or pulled pork instead. For dessert we had the traditional bread pudding--- yummy! But I already knew that was going to be great. I love this place, and although the prices are a little bit steep, it's something everyone should experience. read more

My small sales and marketing firm needed a place for a holiday party, and we called Drew's to see what their options were. The name does not do this place justice. I heard good things about the food here so I took my mom there for her birthday dinner. It is a really nice looking restaurant and it was packed on Saturday night. I thought it was going to be more casual, but it's a pretty trendy looking spot. We had a reservation, but had to wait a little bit. It's crowded in there, so there wasn't really any place to stand. Then we were seated and had a great server greet us. I kind of loved him. He spunky, but also professional. We started with the crab cakes and my man had the cream of broccoli soup. The soup was nice and cheesy and a good sized portion. The crab cakes were tasty, but I loved the greens that came with it. They were amazing. Next were the main courses. My mom adored her asian skirt steak. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I had the risotto starter because it sounded tasty. I was a little disappointed because the risotto was undercooked, but it had good flavor and was a perfect portion to have as my meal! The boy had the pork chop, he really liked it, the potatoes were cold but tasted good. Overall, we had a really nice experience. Great service, good wine list, nice ambiance but crowded, very good food. I'll be back, which is usually a good sign. :) read more

I have always walked by this restaurant while out and about so I decided to take a shot at brunch. They have decent drink specials, including mimosas, bloody Mary's, and flavored martinis for about $6. However, I was rather disappointed in the quality of the food for the price we paid. A bowl of soup was $8 and to be honest, just wasn't worth it. I also wasn't too thrilled with my classic eggs benedict. I mean, it was good, but it wasn't the best. Plus, it really wasn't that hot when it came out. I was just too hungry to bring this up with our server and basically just didn't care anymore when I started eating. Our server was great and on top of his game. Overall I was just disappointed in the quality of the food for basically $25 a person, one round of drinks and two brunch entrees. read more

Wonderful thursday night jazz venue. Great date spot, very warm and welcoming. The live music starts at 8pm so be there by 730pm for a nice table. Jack's on Halsted is a solid place to go. Or is it Drew's on Halsted? They've been in the midst of a name change for at least a few weeks. I took my friend for dinner. I ordered the Argentinian style steak and she ordered the Cajun penne pasta. The food was very good, if a little underwhelming. My steak was perfectly cooked, but lacked flavor. My friend really enjoyed her pasta, which she ordered on recommendation from the server. The service was very friendly, but a little slow. They happily made accommodations for my dietary restrictions, which i always appreciate. I am never a fan of live music in restaurants or bars. I didn't realize they'd have a singer on Sunday evenings when I made the reservation. However, the singer was very, very good, and totally in keeping with the tone of the restaurant. They kept his volume at just the right level so I could still talk to my friend. Overall, I wasn't wow'ed, but I would eat here again. read more

I've only eaten at Jack's twice, but both experiences were great. Pricey, but great. I had the filet mignon which was awesome, along with the mashed potatoes that came along with it. I also had the chance to sample the tuna, which was melt in your mouth good. The standout? The butternut squash ravioli are amazing. They are an appetizer, and I haven't seen them on the menu in ages, but I vow to go back when they are on there and order 4 plates of those. Had brunch on the patio at Jack's on Halsted and it is a great place to enjoy a summer afternoon with some mimosas. My friend and I took advantage of the $5 mimosas and each tried several of the combos, my personal favorite was the guava nectar, but all of them were excellent. For my meal I went with the blackened chicken sandwich and fries. The portion was enormous and everything was very well cooked. One of the things that set the meal apart was the "mardi gras" coleslaw that comes with their lunch items. I couldn't get enough of it and next time would ask for a larger portion in lieu of fries. Service was also great at Jack's. Our waiter was always popping by to refill our water and ask us if we were ready for our next round of mimosas which I definitely appreciated. All in all this is a great brunch spot and I hope to come try it out for dinner one day. read more

Food - good Service - good Drinks - strong We are happy. :) We had dinner here before heading over to see Blue Man Group. It was easy to make same day reservations for a Thursday night. Our server was great and recommended several great items on the menu, of which we all partook. The Ahi tuna, scallops and grilled calamari were all very very good. I wasn't crazy about their dessert selection, tho. The place is a bit smaller than I had expected, but it's right on the corner of Belmont and Halsted. A great location for such a joint.
