Had an incredible experience here (first time at Mercadito in Chicago) on a Friday around lunchtime because of our fantastic server/bartender Leslie. She was very personable, friendly, and hospitable during the entire experience and made my friend and I feel very welcome. My friend's visiting from California and it was her first day in Chicago so this experience started off her time here in a very positive light. We also ordered the Yuzu tacos (3) which was a little pricey but honestly worth it and very unique. We ordered a cucumber/PYU(?) cocktail that was both liked by my friend and I and was a perfect refreshing summer drink, but honestly all of the cocktails here were delicious and well worth ordering because she personally made them so well for us! Welcome to LP, Mercadito!! We came here for a weekend dinner (for a bday) and had a great experience. We were seated in the back but luckily could see the bar tvs to watch the world cup. The space is pretty and got very busy. Service was thoughtful and kind. They surprised us with a birthday dessert with a giant sparkler which was so fun! The food was delicious - guacamole /salsa trio and chips were gobbled up. My kids were very into the kids quesadilla and mac and cheese. I really loved my chipotle caesar salad with shrimp. We stopped by here on a Saturday night with no reservation and we were able to get a table right away. We had no expectations and we're just looking for a place to eat after a long day of moving my son into his dorm at DePaul. It has a really nice environment and the servers are all very pleasant and helpful. The food was good, but nothing special, especially for the price point. I live in Los Angeles and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food at all points on the spectrum. I understand they are trying to elevate the food here. However, I don't think it is elevated enough and the flavors are not unique enough for me to want to pay the prices of this restaurant. It certainly is a nice vibe restaurant and if you're just looking for a night out and don't care about price or quality of food, this might be the place. But if you are looking for really good flavorful Mexican food at a reasonable price, this might not be the place for you. Went here tonight with a group for dinner. Our experience was easily and collectively one of the worst we've ever had. First, the food was not good in any way. Instead, it was universally bad. Everyone in our group was disappointed with what they ordered. Bones were found in the meat this restaurant served. We were all confused by how bad the food was, across the board. Second, their billing practices did not make up for their bad food. They charged cards approximately 28.57% more than the total calculated menu prices, plus tax. No additional charge was disclosed or explained. Third, the gentleman who presented as a manager appeared impaired and became increasingly belligerent. He was visibly swaying while standing and refused to acknowledge or answer questions regarding the billing discrepancy, which he did not dispute and appeared to acknowledge when we asked questions. As we were leaving, however, this individual interacted with a member of our party, got in his face, made physical contact, called him a "fucking pussy," and challenged him to touch him again. Yes, read this in disbelief -- we were all in disbelief when we saw it. Truly unreal. Huge red flags as to this person who this place has chosen to employ, and to hold out as a manager of a restaurant in Chicago's vibrant Lincoln Park neighborhood. In summary, don't go here. The food is poor quality and unappetizing. The service of "management" was easily the worst and most concerning of anything ever experienced by our group. read more

The space is nicely decorated and looks fresh, but there is definitely some room for improvement at Mercadito's newest location in LP. Just like the river north location, their tacos come in 4's - which I always found odd. It's great for sharing but too much food for one person. I ordered the brisket tacos and let two go to waste (was heading to a show so a doggy bag wasn't an option). The crispy potatoes were pretty boring and bland. My taco order also came out incorrectly, not once but twice, so my dining partner was finished by the time I even received my entree. Service was super nice, but sometimes absent when the place wasn't busy. Prices are also a bit high for what you get. Margaritas were on point, though! All in all some good, some bad and room to improve. read more

Mercadito is a nice, new addition to this area in Lincoln Park. They have done some very nice renovations since Takito Street closed up. The space is much brighter, feels more welcoming and has lots of space for diners. I started with the Mango Margarita cocktail. It was quite tasty and enjoyed a second with my meal. We also enjoyed chips and salsa - very flavorful but would say a little expensive for what we got. My main was a 4-stack of quesabirria tacos. They were well cooked with lots of meat and cheeses. The consume could have used a little more flavor but in all, good. Will be back. read more

Very disappointing. We've liked the other location in the past, but everything at this location was bad. The food was mediocre at best, the drinks were too sweet and it was so loud we couldn't enjoy any conversation. Our waitress was nice and did her best, but she was the only waitress we saw all night in a room of about 40 people so she could only do so much. Overall an expensive and painful evening. read more

Let's taco bout something... We've been going to Mercadito in River North for years, so we were excited to try the new Lincoln Park location. We ordered our usual favorites: the salsa trio, traditional guacamole, empanadas, carne tacos, and of course a Pepino. Everything was delicious and exactly why we've kept coming back all these years. The Pepino is still one of my favorite cocktails in the city! A special shoutout to Victor, who took great care of us throughout the evening. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the moment we sat down.
