Isaac, our server, spilled a Vodka martini all over the table, didn't apologize, didn't offer to replace the spillage and didn't bother to clean it up. (Thank god we had an extra napkin). Had the most fantastic lunch yesterday coming to dine at Drew's with my roommates! Our server, Roger, was absolutely spectacular. He was a great time, very helpful, and overall super friendly. We got $3 Strawberry & Guava Mimosas (Insane price) along with the Caesar Salad and some sandwiches. Which all were amazing. I got the Portobello Sandwich with the truffle fries... and they were to die for. What a wonderful neighborhood hang out! Drew's has a full bistro menu, so be sure to explore beyond the wonderful hamburgers. Their pizzas have a thin, scorched crust that we loved. The pear salad was one of the best salads I've ever had, with a perfect balance of sweet and tart, chewy and crunchy. The steak served with the steak frites is a New York Strip, much better than the usual cut, and the accompanying mountain of fries were thin and crispy. There were no survivors. On Tuesdays bottles of wine are half price. Our Klinker Brick Zinfandel was a great choice at a great price. By luck we were there on the second Tuesday of the month, which is cabaret night. What a wonderful procession of talented singers! I've paid hundreds of dollars for shows not as good as the impromptu one we enjoyed as we dined. A great evening. read more

One of my simple pleasures is when a happy hour menu actually has extensive options and not just 3 measly things. Drew's has many food and beverage options for $7 bucks each. Everything pictured minus the GF cauliflower pizza at the end was $7 bucks. I also got a rum and coke and I left buzzed (successful HH). I didn't expect the bacon wrapped dates to be doused in tomato bisque, but it was a flavor combo I surprisingly enjoyed. The beef skewers were tender and despite the pizza not being on the HH menu, $14 bucks was a great price for the amount of prosciutto they wrapped in that pizza. My friend and I checked out Drew's on Halsted for Chicago's Restaurant Week. Since I'm usually dining in the Loop or the West Suburbs, it was nice to venture to the North Side to try out a new spot. The hostess staff was nice and friendly when we arrived. We were promptly seated at a spacious booth and our waiter, Gerardo, immediately greeted us and gave us great options from the main menu and the restaurant week menu. I decided to try the 4 course restaurant week menu. I ordered the Lentil and Canadian Bacon Soup, Duck Confit Risotto, 10 oz NY Strip Steak Frites and the Chocolate Lava Cake. The food was rich, hearty and homey. My favorite bite was the Duck Confit Risotto. It was warm, creamy and filled with flavorful pieces of duck. I was stuffed after my meal. Our server Rob was not just a good server but and OUTSTANDING gentleman. From the funny comments to interaction with the group, he was truly a special one. We got the bottomless mimosa package, $47 dollars CASH ONLY and that comes with a plate and the sparking wine. The mimosas comes also with a bunch juices so you can make your mimosas the way you want it (orange, guava, pinipple, cranberry). Food arrived and let me tell you it did not disappointed at all, I got a chicken avocado sandwich and it was delicious. each of my friend got differents plates like veggie burger, pizza, croissant sandwich and they were all so good. As mentioned this was my first at Drew's but it definitely won't be the last time. I give them a 10/10, from the service to the attention to the food it was an amazing experience. They have a nice and small enclosed patio for COVID dining! There are plastic dividers or tent curtains between each table. The heat lamps also make it pretty warm - had to ask our server to turn it down at some point! We came for happy hour which they're no longer doing because of COVID. Stayed for dinner and I really enjoyed my meal! I had a porn star martini which was a little expensive but great (although a little sweet if that's not your thing). For my entree, I had the duck leg which was amazing! Would highly recommend. Some of the members of my party didn't enjoy their entree selections as much, but I can't speak to that. Did our date night at Drew's this evening, and the food was delicious, atmosphere was romantic and the service was good. The live jazz and cozy booth were a nice way to start off this mid-week dining experience. We started with pumpkin spice and Cinnamon Toast Crunch martinis and butternut squash ravioli with the chilled shrimp cocktail for appetizer. The seasonal ingredients in the ravioli dish complimented each other and made for quite a tasty start to our dining experience. The shrimp cocktail had cucumber and avocado...a twist from the norm, but again, ingredients that complimented each other. For our main course, my husband had a cooked-perfectly NY Strip steak with a side of fries... delicious steak and fries, if I had one request it would be to have longer fries...they were all short pieces of fries. I had the lemon chicken with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and spinach. Every bite was juicy and full of flavor. We had a glass of Malbec and a glass of a red blend to accompany our dinners. For dessert we finished with the chocolate lava cake. We left quite full and satisfied. If I could offer any suggestions besides the longer fries, it would be this...from working a lifetime in the industry, my definition of great service is to be sure the guest never has to ask for anything. We began our meals without wine, which was ordered before the meals arrived and weren't offered a cocktail/nightcap with dessert. These 2 little things would have just elevated what I would already consider a great experience. That said, come to the north side and give Drew's on Halstead a try.
