It started out as a purchase of a $749 gas water heater from Home Depot. Our water heater had died on a Saturday evening when plumbing outfits were closed for the weekend. Home Depot said that they no longer handled installations of water heaters, but have contracted it out to DRF, who would install it the next day. Having no hot water we were in a bind. I spoke to a DRF representative and tried to relay to him that it was a pretty simple installation, just a simple replacement. He did not appear to have any interest. The quote from DRF was $3300+. Since we didn't feel we could get a local plumber on such short notice, we accepted their quote. That meant that we paid $2500 for installation. In talking to friends who had water heaters installed recently, they paid $600-800. This is a ripoff by DRF, but I also hold Home Depot accountable for participating in this scam. My advice: If DRF is recommended to you, run! Find another source. I will add that the locally contracted installer was very good and accommodating, but when I told him what we were paying, he indicated they got only about 20% of that. read more

This idiot screwed up the installation and then broke the exhaust vent for both our water heater and furnace on a Friday afternoon. The installer simply left. We had to hire a professional plumber to fix the vent pipe and paid a rush charge. Now we're in a significant dispute with Lowe's. If DRF calls to set up installation after your purchase from Lowe's. DRF plumbers, Brian and Tyler, installed a faucet and garbage disposal as contractors for a Home Depot project at my house. I credit them with doing a workaround with the U trap to get the disposal installed, but... DRF hooked up my first 3/4 hp disposal, but the U trap couldn't be connected properly because the "disposal was too big". I replaced it with another smaller 3/4 hp unit which was also "too big". I then purchased a 1/2 hp disposal at DRF's insistence and it also was "too big". The problem was not the disposal size, but rather the depth of the new sink, thus the workaround was needed. DRF held firm that 1/2 hp was all that was needed. After three hours of them doing and redoing the work, I reluctantly gave in. Therefore, I didn't get my initial 3/4 hp disposal installed that would have also been okay after the workaround. Next, I asked if they hooked up my dishwasher to the disposal drain. They said that in 2019 they made a regulation to not do this anymore. Then Brian said that they changed the regulation back in 2023. If true, then why didn't they hook up dishwasher to the disposal??? I noticed that they soap dispenser base was not parallel to the sink edge. It was like a star. They seemed put out when I asked them to line it up. I can't believe that they thought it was okay with the way that it looked. Finally, upon leaving Brian picked up a small box and said that he would take it , "unless i wanted it". It turns out that it was the removeable drain screen. Of course i wanted it. Geeze. read more

Buyer Beware - RUN!!! Incompetence and Hard Upsell DRF Plumbing uses deception and hard sell 'scare' tactics to increase profit at the customer's expense - a prime example of a high-pressure upsell. I was scared into paying for unnecessary repairs by a gross and deliberate misrepresentation. And now I am kicking myself that I didn't trust my instincts. Lesson learned! Upon arrival to install a new hot water heater, the plumber immediately claimed that I needed to spend an additional $1,150 to meet minimum compliance with my Village just to pass the inspection. I was skeptical and asked him three times very clearly and distinctly - "so I will NOT pass inspection unless I spend this additional $1,150"? Each time he confidently and boldly affirmed - incorrectly - that the inspection would FAIL, and I would then be charged an additional $195 for him to come back and rectify (a scare tactic). This was an inaccurate and uninformed statement to capture additional revenue for the plumber and DRF. On inspection by the village, I confirmed that the current configuration, in place for 20+ years, would have absolutely passed inspection. I subsequently confirmed this verbally with the lead inspector for the village - the additional work was NOT NECESSARY to pass inspection. After inquiring about the misguided and uninformed hard sell, DRF Customer Service delayed answering my questions, instead choosing to deflect and putting the onus on me to prove otherwise. They are ignoring my communications now to avoid further response. So they deliberately refuse to address my concerns by hoping I will go away. read more

DO NOT USE THEM. I had the worst experience with this company. Every single person who works there said different thing. I tried to set up an appointment to install garbage disposal. First, I mentioned my name and my phone number several times but they still put a different name and number under my ticket. I had to repeat at least 6 times saying that I'm the one who's setting up the appointment so put my number as primary contact. They never did. Second, I mentioned at least 9 times that they have to set up my appointment after 2pm because there are nobody at home before 2pm. They called at noon saying that dispatch is on his way. Like seriously what the fuck. Their response was, "we can not promise the time because it depends on when the dispatch finishes his work and where he is at" They changed my appointments 3 times. At the end I just canceled everything and found a different company. I mean, even setting up the appointment is this much complicated and giving me a headache, why do you even want to use thier service at the first place right? DO NOT waste your time. Use different place. I found the other company and they immediately scheduled me with better price. And they gave me a better time frame like between 2pm to 3pm. I requested a estimate on my water heater because it was leaking from the bottom. They knew exactly what was wrong with it within minutes, told me it needed to be replaced and not repaired because it was cracked. The price was a little higher than I expected but the heater was 20 years old and needed to be upgraded. It as installed in about 1 hour and the old one hauled away. I have mixed feelings about this company. The installers who replaced a faulty water heater were excellent - completed the installation, explained every detail, cleaned up after themselves. They went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied with the outcome of the job. I can't say the same about customer service in the office. My rights as a customer were not respected. I was strong-armed by a lady on the phone to pay for the entire job upfront. When I stated that I was not comfortable with paying over $2000 for the service that hasn't been done, she said it's the company policy - either I pay or the installers leave. I offered to pay 50% deposit - something I've been doing with every contractor before, and no one seemed to have an issue with this type of arrangement. But the DRF rep on the phone kept insisting I had to pay in full before the installers would do anything in my home. I was in a desperate situation, being without hot water for a few days already, so I paid. Based on the Illinois Law and the Consumer Rights pamphlet elaborated by the Illinois Attorney General's office, I was not supposed to pay the full price until after the project had been completed. I was supposed to be given a written contract and the pamphlet (as required for every contract over $1,000), which I didn't receive prior to installation. It's a shame that DRF takes advantage of the customers in this way, going against the law and acting entitled to it. It's a shame because they have excellent installers working for them. But thanks to their customer service policy that openly violates the law, I would not recommend doing business with this company. read more

Was quoted a price for water heater installation and when the installer came they said there were a bunch of other fees that was not previously included and it doubled the cost. We needed our water heater installed, so I regrettably agreed. The water heater was installed and they left without making sure it worked and said to check the next day. Afterwards, they refused to come back out and said they did not purchase the water heater, so we would have to contact the manufacturer. Full disclosure, I did wait over 30 days to contact DRF, but they do not stand by their work after getting paid. Told me they would not come back out to check their work. read more

We had an old water heater fail on us last evening (Monday 4/27). We contacted Home Depot about purchasing a new unit and they suggested DRF TPS to perform the install. When the crew arrived we asked them about another small household plumbing job that they were able to do for us. The additional work was done quickly and efficiently. The bottom line is this; the DRF TPS crew were extremely professional and did a great job for us on short notice. I sincerely believe that when a good job is done that the people involved should be given an "attaboy". Manny and Matt's work pleased my wife and she is not generally that easy to please. read more

It needed repaired quickly. Waited a week for the appointment. On the night before the appointment I missed a call from DRF. Called back and they said I was still on schedule. The morning of the appointment (A weekday where I took off work!) they cancelled on me. Despite being a repeat customer, having an appointment for a week, and a leak that was causing water damage, apparently I wasn't as important as the "profitable" flood customers. They said I couldn't have an appointment for another 3 weeks. Manager talked to the "Bosses" and said it was coming from the top. If you want a company who doesn't care about repeat business, doesn't give a crap (pun intended) about their customers, or keeping their word or appointments, is only interested in chasing the bigger buck, then go to this crappy place. They wanted to charge me $978.00 to install a water heater. That is insane. That's over four times what my plumber charges. There are some installation choices with the Home Depot that make sense (such as having them install a gas range for $39.99 as that's cheap) but this certainly isn't one of them. I'm still shocked. There are people who actually use this service? I feel bad for them and their ignorance as they're throwing money away. For a water heater switch most licensed plumbers will charge $150-$250 dollars. This company's technicians were rude and unprofessional. To start out they parked in front of our townhouse row of mailboxes and when I asked the driver to move because his parking would not work for my neighbors or the mailman, the driver exclaimed "But it works for me."... After that, everything went downhill including the installers soiling my carpet and a call from the company owner who was upset that I dare complain about his company's service. When I ordered the water heater, this company told me they would help me to retrieving some compensation with my 4 year old Home Depot water that was still under warranty. I knew my hot water heater was on its last legs, but like any procrastinator, I hoped for "one more day." That hope last a couple of years, but finally gave out in December 2022. I came home late on a Friday night, heard some sort of strange mechanical noise coming from the basement, and as I suspected and feared, the hot water heat had enough of me, called it a day, and was spurting water from its top. This was about 2 in the morning. I went online, I had no idea where to look, but I knew I was not going to use ABC, which if you're on the fence about using them for anything, don't. I checked with Home Depot to see if they had a delivery service, they "referred" me to DRF, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Someone from DRF called, texted, and emailed, starting at about 5:30 am. I wasn't expecting a quick response, and even though I has been up since about 6 am (yes, I don't sleep much), I didn't bother to look at messages until about 8:30 am. I guess I'm used to ABC wasting my time. If I haven't mentioned this, avoid ABC. They are massive time wasters. Anyway, I returned the call to DRF, someone took my info, did a quick scan of their inventory, and told me they had my model in stock. She said she would check with her install teams to see if they could get someone to my house that same day. I wasn't expecting much...I've been burned by ABC in the past (don't use them!), but much to my happy surprise, a dispatcher from DRF called about 15 minutes later and said they could get a team to my house by mid afternoon. I went out to do my usual Saturday errands, I figured I had plenty of time, but at about 12:30 pm, DRF called and said the install team would arrive by about 1 pm. They're early! I was a few miles from home, so I told the dispatcher to tell the installers to wait in case I wasn't at home when they arrived. I got got home about 15 minutes later, and sure enough, the installers were in their truck, in front of my house. They removed the old water heater and installed the new one in only about 2 hours. They were professional, mindful of my home, and did a great job. Everything was perfect, I have no complaints. The only nit I can pick is one: they forgot to plug in the new unit! This was a total non-issue. Even I can plug in an appliance. I am very satisfied with the installers' work, their professionalism, the dispatchers, and perhaps most of all, their timeliness. Having dealt with ABC far too often (have I told you to avoid ABC), I really appreciate when people do what they say they will do, are on time, and better yet, show up early. First class. I recommend DRF, unequivocally, unreservedly. I am extremely happy with their work. read more

Instead of explaining to me whether I was getting a 12 or a 6 year warranty, he offered me two choices, "Sir I can install it or leave." I would have preferred he explain whether it was a 12 year warranty like I ordered or will it be a water heater with a 6 year warranty like the gentlemen the day before told me that was the best I could get on such short notice. Tried to call emergency service constantly disconnected and received message saying they do not provide 24 hour service after being able to leave a voicemail. What false advertising! Originally the install of the water heater was fine and we had purchased a 5 year agreement from them/Home Depot which I hope they will honor as this water heater is now not producing hot water at all. Chat bot also is garbage as well. Rheem hold this installer accountable! Update: Service fee is way out of line for Chicago $150 is obnoxious just for a visit. Owner should lower fees to be more competitive. Home Depot warranty is completely unacceptable turn around as well - 3 week wait period for a hot water tank not working since only one vendor services warranties in Chicago market. Instead owner is expected to pay up front and then get reimbursed. The whole Home Depot water heater warranty is a sham and a real disservice to Illinoisans. Ok, right to the point. I went on line to purchase a hot water heater from Home Depot at $600.15. The link for an installation quote came from DRF. Not only was it OUTRAGEOUS but downright insulting! The quote was $1800+ and they couldn't even guarantee that. This was for a 40 gallon hot water heater in my home. I will tell you that the average cost of installing a hot water heater is WAY BELOW that amount. So $1800 minus the $600 water heater is $1200!!! He gave me every excuse from inflation to a shortage of plumbers. What a line.... Not only has Home Depot lost my business, but after I have another hot water heater bought from a LICENSED PROFESSIONAL tomorrow, I am going to send that receipt and DRF's quote to the Illinois Department of Consumer Affairs and file a formal complaint. I was a little put off by the seemingly high price when I scheduled this over the phone (it also seemed like there was some up-selling going on) but the efficiency and friendliness with which Tom R. and his assistant Tyler installed the new unit (and removed the old one) was impressive and well worth it. They took the time to explain each thing they were doing and walk us through the new install. They also cleaned up around the space the old water heater was in before installing the new one. First, whoever responded would not stop talking - reassuring me so much that they were the best, with the best quotes and services that after 3 minutes I started to get suspicious. Overall my experience was good and the service and staff were very friendly and accommodating. I went through home depot and had a water heater installed. The following week I had them come in to fix the main water valve to the house and again did a really nice job considering how bad it was. They had to wait a little bit for the city to come and turn the water off but once they did the got the job done very quickly. I was the first stop which was very helpful so it wouldn't disrupt the family the whole day. I was worried about the scheduling dealing with drf, the city water, my work schedule, and the renters but in the end it worked out. I guess my only recommendation for drf would be to allow the customers to set a schedule instead of not being able to give me a straight answer on when they would arrive. Also it was a little more expensive then other plumbers but not much and they'll work with you on financing if needed. read more

Would not recommend doing business. Moved into a home spring 2020 that has a sprinkler system. DRF was the sticker on the box in our garage so we called them. Signed a $450 contract for RPZ certification, turn on and turn off services. A DRF employee was to fix 2 sprinkler heads for us - 1 that didn't work at all and the other that would get stuck and we had to manually unstick it. In the process of winterizing, 1 of the sprinkler heads that a DRF employee fixed shot up out of the ground (we contacted them immediately when it happened) and the other never properly turned the whole season even after they "fixed" it which we had also called about. While we were compensated for the cost of a service call, we still sit with our 2 sprinkler heads not fixed. We were ghosted in November trying to get this settled for this year's turn on service and now a month of us contacting them again, going back and forth for this spring, they're only willing to fix what they never fixed in the first place IF we sign another contract with them for $450. The maintenance and customer services they provide are definitely not worth a $450 contract for a residential sprinkler system. read more

I bought a tankless water heater from DRF 4 years ago. I recall there was a problem with the installers making it to my house (truck broke down) and the appointment day had to be changed. (This, after I wasted the morning waiting for them.) When they did install it, it went well with them removing the old water heater and installing the tankless and a hot water filter for the tankless. DRF handled getting the permit. The city inspector said they did a good job. Fast forward 4 years. The tankless heater developed a small leak but fortunately the unit has a 5 year parts warranty. Also, fortunately, I had purchased a service package which extends DRF's labor warranty to match the manufacturer's parts warranty. (Good thing because as of now DRF charges $250 for a service call alone.) I called DRF and they scheduled a service appointment for the next day. They couldn't say what time they'd arrive but would call in the morning with an estimate. On the day of the appointment they called at 7:15 to say I was first appointment of the day but they wouldn't leave until 8:30 and it would take them an hour to get to my place. The men arrived at 9:30 and found the leak and called the manufacturer to arrange to get the part under the warranty. The part was shipped next-day to DRF. I requested that when the part was installed, the technician also do the annual flush. In order to do this 45 minute flush, they need a special recirculating pump and hoses, they call it a flush kit, and apparently they do not have this kit on every truck so they put a note in my record informing the technician to bring the flush kit when they install the part. I made a service request and specified I had to leave by 1 pm so a morning appointment was needed. They assured me they would schedule someone who would be able to finish by 1. On the morning of the appointment I was contacted at 7:20 and told I was the second appointment of the day and the technician was aware I needed to leave by 1. I reminded them I wanted the heater flushed and was told it was in the notes and they'd make sure a flush kit was on the truck. At 11:30 they called to say the technician got hung up at his first appointment but was leaving soon. I reminded him that I had to leave at 1 and asked again if the technician was prepared to do the flush. The person I was speaking to hung up. Apparently he said what he needed to say and was finished. I called back though because I wanted to be certain they could install the part and do the flush in one trip. I just didn't want to deal with all the hassles of having them come back again. He said he'd call the technician and let me know. He called back to say the technician did NOT have the flush kit but would be happy to install the part and come back another time to do the flush. I declined and said I would reschedule for a morning when they could do both. He promised I would be the first appointment the next day. I received a call at 7:30 saying I was the second appointment of the day. I received a call at 8:50 saying their first appointment cancelled and he was on the way and would arrive in an hour. I received a call at 9:05 saying the truck broke down and he didn't know if this technician would be back on the road so he was going to find another technician. I reminded him that this technician would need the part the manufacturer sent and a flush kit. He said that if he didn't have the parts he could stop at the store to buy them. (???). At 2:00 I called to find out when the technician would arrive. I was told he was on the way and to expect him in 30 min. The technicians arrived 30 min later, completed the flush and installed the replacement part and were gone in an hour. Noe and the other tech were polite and professional and took the time to show me how to flush the tank on my own in the future. It's because of them I don't give DRF fewer stars. read more
