Locals love this place and for good reasons. If you are feeling outside seating you can enjoy a beautiful (pet friendly) waterside view of the MS River. If you're feeling an inside vibe you can enjoy the nice low key inside option. The menu offers a nice selection of America cuisine, including a kids menu. The service was excellent! Beautiful location with a view of the river, rustic modern interior, excellent service with knowledgeable wait staff. Entrees were varied, but on the expensive side. We started with the Stuff Dates, it was a total of eight dates which arrived on two skewers, very tasty sweet and savory. I had the Shrimp Tostada, they served two, it was more a ceviche with picked onions. Personally, I didn't like the tang and acidity of the onions, which is put on just about everything. My husband had the Banh Mi, which didn't have a very generous serving of pork, but was still savory and excellent flavor. A bit on the expensive side, but very good all around. read more

Drifters offers a pleasant atmosphere with beautiful views of the Missouri River or entertainment on TVs by the bar. Staff was courteous and present as much as you might wish for without hovering too much. As a vegan, it's often an interesting challenge to find options away from medium to large cities. I was able to try the vegetarian curry, which is vegan if you hold the naan. The curry had good flavor, and the rice in the bowl balanced well even if it had the occasional clump. It would have been nice to have some tofu to add texture and protein, but the mix of veggies, chickpeas, and the curry base was rich and satisfying. I'm not sure there was anything else on the menu I could have had beyond a salad, but I was happy to enjoy my meal and the setting Drifters has created. read more

Gosh, what's not to love about this place? A rotation of incredible brews on tap always keeps me coming back. And the food? Don't even get me started!! You can't go wrong with the pretzel bites and queso, which is only $4 during Happy Hour! My go to is always the fish tacos, but when I do choose to switch it up I'm never disappointed. This is such a cool location right on the river! The landscaping maintenance was impeccable and gave the perfect vibes for summertime dining. We just ordered drinks and pretzel bites. I had the Peach Basil Smash from their Seasonal Cocktail menu and it had the perfect flavor combinations and just the right amount of alcohol! The pretzels bites were probably the best I have ever had with the perfect cheese paired with it. We arrived with our five children and were told there were no tables for us unless we wanted to seat ourselves on the back deck. We were hungry and agreed to find ourselves seats no problem. We were putting two tables together as we have five children and wanted to eat at one table. The host comes out and tells us we have to go inside to order at the bar. No menus were given. So, we all go back inside and locate a menu as no one was up front at this time. Find what we want and go to the bar to order only to be told we can only order appetizers/flatbread from the bar. We are in town for training and stopped at Drifters. It sits along the Missouri and is just a beautiful place to be- with a view of the Capitol building. We had a FANTASTIC time! Tried a couple "local" SD beers. I had the Bacon and Bleu burger. It is a smashed burger- and was exceptional. Skipped the bun because I am trying to be less #fluffybunny . Added a side salad instead of the fries and in a place known for Ranch dressing, ordered the house balsamic. Hands down best balsamic ever! I would have literally drank it from the trough (opposite of being #fluffybunny ) - but when it's good, it's good! Our server was amazing and adorable- even though she was headed back to the University of Minnesota. As a Wisconsin Badger, I had to dislike that! Came here during their happy hour (9pm-close) on a Wednesday night. Not a lot of people and looks like a band just finished playing. They close the kitchen at 9pm but the bar is open 'til 10pm. I sat on the bar which the bartender was so nice to let me avail the free house wine from check-in here on yelp. Food* I ordered Irish Burger with fries- really good; very juicy and the pretzel bun was soft while the fries is piping hot, crispy and well seasoned. Drinks*Grasshopper which recommended by the bartender is excellent.its taste like a mint chocolate ice cream with booze. Very refreshing and filling! Overall, the place is great. Food, service, and atmosphere was great. This will be for sure my hang out spot. read more

First time at this restaurant. Ordered the 16 oz ribeye with mashed potatoes and vegetables. Asked for the steak to be blue or rare at most. It came medium rare and was so tuff the steak knife could hardly cut it. It had zero flavor. The additional mushrooms and onions we ordered to be very crispy were not cooked. We ate 3 bites and told the bartender it was the worst meal we had in a very long time. He still charged us $65. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Drinks were good. Never coming back. This place was a very pleasant surprise for Minnesota tourists on our drive across the state. We enjoyed a flight of beer and a glass of wine during Happy Hour and had a lovely dinner. Service is horrible. We were seated and waited over 15 minutes for our waitress to take our order. It's wasn't very crowded and there were plenty of staff so I'm no sure why it was so slow. After 5-10 minutes after my wine was delivered the waitress informed me that the yelp check in coupon wasn't valid because they don't consider the 17 dollar entree salad an entree. Mind you we have a table of three ordering full lunches so it's a decent bill. The salad was huge I honestly could not finish it. The house poppyseed dressing was real runny and the onions seemed to fight with the flavors since they were really sharp and hot tasing. The view of the river was gorgeous from the restaurant. What a view! What a gem in Pierre. I tend to end up unhappy w most steaks. They are never cooked and/or seasoned the way I want but not here! My sirloin was perfect. Perfect! The mashed potatoes were tasty and my asparagus well seasoned. The peach Collins was just right. The passion fruit banner beer is close to the best pale ale we've had. The discovery island walleye was very good but not the star of our visit. The chickpea curry was tasty, full of flavor yet gentle on the palate. For apps, we had the pretzel bites and they hit the spot just right but we probably should have just ordered our meals as we were delightfully 'too full'. But, we regret nothing. Picked on a gamble on vacation. Parking lot was 2/3 full, online reviews decent. Hostess said 25-30 minute wait, even though there were at least two empty 4-tops inside. Took two stools at the bar instead. Beer tap list was decent, good local/regional selections and macro domestics. They were out of cheese curds, so we tried the pretzel bites for an appetizer. Pretty good - I'm 99% sure these are the frozen soft pretzels you can buy by the case at Sams club, thawed and cut into pieces and then flash-fried to crisp up. Cheese dip was very good. Burger (The Standard: smash burger, cheddar, bacon, pickles, tomato, slaw) was absolutely unremarkable. Meat was totally unseasoned; didn't even taste like salt or pepper had been added. Slaw was uninspired as well. Sweet potato fries were very good. Spouse had the Forager Burger (Swiss, mushrooms) and said it was pretty good. There aren't a lot of places to eat in Pierre, it seems, so this place survives. I wouldn't be back as a local. read more

I ordered the Oyster Po Boy, which I thought was very heavy on bread and trimmings and exceedingly light on Oysters, two small ones for each half of the sandwich. Great beer selection from semi-local breweries! The food, unfortunately, was abysmally bad. We had fish tacos that arrived cold and a bacon cheese burger that was very bland. The plate came with ketchup on it, but the burger lacked any sauce. I was hopeful about the fries given a past review, but they arrived dark brown and tasted like the fryer oil hadn't been changed in a rather long time. They had the 'grimy' taste that fries get after being cooked in old oil. I couldn't eat them. The negative experience was exacerbated by a server who never returned to ask how the food was. She whiffed by the table 3 times and we tried to catch her, but no luck. She asked about the food when she brought the check and then offered a new plate of fries to go. WTF?! read more

Was in Ft. Pierre for work & had dinner here 2 nights in a row. Obviously, we loved the place after the 1st night. The view is incredible & great draft beers. Appetizers are great. Get the Chislic if you've never had it. First night I got the Bison kabob for my entree & loved the flavor. Second night is where I have some challenges. Got a 6 oz. filet wrapped in bacon & ordered it medium, expecting some pink. Nope. Right off the bat I knew it was probably overlooked due to the burnt bacon. Once I cut into it, it was basically well, if not well done. Super disappointed, but I don't want to be one of those people who complains. Looking back I probably should've. Love everything else about the place & other food is great. Just be specific & honest about your steak. read more
