Our only issue was wasps, my girlfriend is allergic and there were 7 that we got rid of before the guy got there to vacuum the other live ones. The staff was very nice and I would definitely recommend this place if staying in the area. We looked at a couple other places and they were down right bland. We stayed here 4 nights since we were celebrating. Parking was easy and safe. The bed was comfortable and the cabin was very clean. The price was very reasonable and we were able to cook breakfast in the morning.

It was so nicely put together and the attention to details were definitely appreciated. The cabin came with everything you may need, while keeping it clean and organized. I loved the little touches like having puzzles and kid books in the loft. The touches of making it 'bird themed' were just enough, and didn't make you feel like you were in a Hitchcock movie. While this was a kid free weekend for us, we definitely could see it being perfect for a family as well. Everything was well maintained. Communication with the staff was fantastic and we were really able to unplug and unwind. If you do get antsy and want to go shopping or exploring, Lake Lure is just a short drive away. We would definitely stay here again.

There are also Adirondack chairs along the river to hang out. The bathhouse was clean. There was a playground where kids were playing, badminton, horseshoes, and other games provided. Checkout time is 10 am, but it was midweek and there was literally no one else in the whole resort except one couple in one of the campsites, so we weren't stressing about being a little late getting out of our Rainbow Trout Cabin. We had put our dishes in the dishwasher and taken the trash to the dumpster, and I was zipping up my last suitcase, preparing to take it out the open front door and put it in our car, when the owner came walking up with her dog (which looked like a pitbull/boxer cross - it's large and muscular), OFF LEASH (the resort's rules supposedly require all dogs to be on leash). It was a little before 11 am. She intentionally let the dog run into our cabin, with us inside. She followed it in, yelling angrily -- not at the dog, but at US, shouting that "checkout time was 10 am!" etc. etc. The dog was barking at us, and charged at me, cornering me in the bedroom. I put my suitcase between myself and the dog. Eventually she called it away and let us get out of the cabin and to our car. The cabin was very nice, the river is great, it's a gorgeous spot with good fishing and swimming and a nice playground. But beware of the owner! Also maybe don't bring your dog, since she let hers run around loose. And the tap water smelled like sulfur, not sure what's going on with that.

We chose this home because of its proximity to the hiking spots we wanted to explore, and it didn't disappoint. The house itself was lovely, comfortable, and well-equipped. We especially appreciated having a full kitchen for making breakfast together and enough beds for everyone to sleep comfortably--perfect for a group getaway. It's also ideally located--just 10 minutes from Blowing Rock with great restaurants, about 20 minutes to Boone, and only 30 minutes from Grandfather Mountain. It made getting around to all our planned activities quick and easy. Overall, this was the perfect home base for a fun and relaxing girls' weekend. Highly recommend!

We especially enjoyed the hot tub, playing pool, the big-screen TVs, the two living rooms, and the beautiful scenery. During our stay, we spent one day skiing at Sugar Mountain and another day snow tubing, which everyone loved. Hot Water: On a particularly cold day--when temperatures dropped to nine degrees, and there was snow on the ground--we returned from skiing and discovered there was no hot water when everyone was ready to shower. We called Carolina Cabin Rentals, and were so glad they sent someone the following morning to fix it. Snow and Driveway Conditions: That same day, a van carrying several family members took nearly two hours to make it up the snow-packed hill to the cabin, even with chains on the tires. We bought a shovel and rock salt in case it snowed again. We left the shovel there. Kitchen Supplies: Be sure to bring potholders, trash bags, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, dishwashing soap, a sponge, and kitchen towels. We also found there wasn't enough silverware for our group's size, and had to purchase plastic utensils. The coffee pot was too small for our large group - you might consider bringing a large coffee pot. Bathroom Door Locks: The family members staying near the pool table area noted that several bathroom doors did not lock. Front Motion Light: The motion-activated light at the front of the cabin was triggered frequently at night, likely due to wildlife. Unfortunately, the light shone through the blinds into the front bedroom, making it difficult to sleep. A blackout shade in that window could be a helpful improvement for future guests. These are all minor inconveniences, I know, but overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the rustic charm of the cabin and our time in the Banner Elk, NC area.

I think it ended up being like 150$ a night and we had 5 people with us so it came out to like 30$ a head. Anyways, the cabin itself is awesome. Everything you'd need for a weekend getaway. Full kitchen and two full baths. The best part of this place was the view off the back deck. You can see on a clear day for 40+ miles if I was guessing, which I am haha. The cabin also has a hot tub on the back deck which is never a bad idea. The only thing I would say that is a negative is the third bedroom has kinda smallish bed. The ad said it sleeps six but that may have had the couch in mind for the 6th person. We did our trip this winter and had hoped to go skiing up at Beech or possibly Sugar (both very close to the cabin) but the weather has been so crazy warm this winter we didn't even bother. No worries, it was still a excellent weekend getaway. I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting to make a quick getaway from Charlotte for the weekend or possibly a week. There is just a lot of great outdoor activities up that way to get into.
