Came to watch the new Odyssey movie since I could not find tickets in theaters. This place was not as packed as expected. It was 36 dollars for 4 of us which is a fraction of the price if we went to the theaters. The lots are nice and dark. Almost everyone followed the rules and shut their lights off. The ones who didn't were not near us but you could see their car, sort of frustrating. The concession shop and bar were nice but a little busy. The bathrooms were CLEAN! Was not expecting that at all. Gives me peace of mind when trying to sit through a 3 hour movie. Only down side to this location if it is off a busy street so you get a ton of loud exhaust vehicles driving by and airplanes over head. Inconvenient if you sit outside or with the trunk open laying in the back. Still a good price compared to theaters. read more

**Review on Nachos** Unexpected food item at the drive ins?? People around us didn't know they served nachos and I could tell they wanted to try some. I honestly expected simple chips and cheese, but this was shmacking. Gotten this three times, & tried all meat options: chicken, asada, and pastor. Chicken is hard pass. Chicken was soft, but it came in big pieces and the flavor profile did not complement the nachos. However, you can't go wrong with asada or pastor. Personally, I like the taste of pastor more. This isn't restaurant quality nachos, but still damn good for a movie theater. I do feel like it's missing something-- maybe jalapenos or more onions/cilantro. It would be nice if there was lime. Getting nachos here will forever be a staple. Plus my partner pays for the membership so we get discounts on food! We had to get our own nachos because we didn't want to share haha. read more

Honestly, I understand the idea of a drive-in movie. Although the area of it seems a little iffy - there's a lot of camper trucks and vans leading up to the entrance of the drive in. From there, you line up to get checked in or buy the tickets onsite. You'll get a receipt from the cashier that'll tell you which number screen you drive to and park at. There's a concession area that's easily accessible with bathrooms and a bar. The snacks are a bit cheaper here than they would be at a normal movie theater which was nice. You can also bring your own food which is cost effective. I'd highly suggest arriving as early as you can while there's still light out. We saw plenty of people come through during the movie when it got dark and even saw a car bump into another car as it was trying to park. The lines on the ground aren't super visible in some areas so it's really like a free for all so you'll also want to come early to get a good spot. There are no clear designated lanes guiding cars to the ticket booth, so once you drive in, a lot of cars end up cutting straight through the parking lot and merging into the line. It would help if they added cones, barriers, or illuminated lane markings to make traffic flow in an organize fashion. The movie screens are decent size, but you need to arrive at least 30 minutes early if you want a good viewing spot. Another downside is that the screens are placed close to each other, so the bright screen next to your movie can be distracting. The place still a great place to spend time with family except that the security guy tried to mesh with me last night, 5/19/26. He wanted to pick a fight showing how an ***hole he was. I brought my wife here last night, on our 30 yrs university, to remember back then when she was still my girlfriend, in my old truck, one we have spend so many times here with. Thirty minute into the movie, we needed to exchange our vehicle for an other one which my kids brought by and waited for me outside the gate. I exited the gate after inform the girl at the ticket boot of my intension that I would change the vehicle then go back in. I pull mine along the other about 300 ft away from the ticket boot. I know the distance since it was about the length of my property and I used to be an architect so I am good at that. I was hurry to take chairs, blankets, pillows, drinks... from one to the other. As soon as I start doing that a guy approached and shouted from his car that I cannot park there. - Sir, we are not park here, we just try to exchange the car - No, you have to move, I am security guy. - Sir, I have asked and inform the girl in the ticket boot to replace my car - No, you did not, because I was seating right there. This really upset me. He is implying I was lying for one. Two, how long my vehicle transfer would take? Did he see what I was doing and hear my explanation? I understood I might have stopped not in a right zone. I know they don't want anyone park there to watch movie for free. But it was Monday night, at 9:35 pm all (though very few) were inside. The parking was huge, no one around us, no car waiting at the boot, no car was coming or going. Our action would take no more than 2 minutes with engine car running and driving light on. If he paused a little bit to observe us, not come straight at us right a way, we would be gone in no time. Nothing would happen. But he decide to give us a hard time instead. The drive-in corners off a portion of the lot for our guests exclusively so you don't need to worry about your guests parking away from each other. We bought a marquee message and a radio shout-out which was very exciting. The bathrooms are surprisingly clean (pointed out by multiple guests). I've always loved the concept of drive-in movies ... and we've been coming to Capitol 6 more often over the years because it's one of the few places we can enjoy a movie with our dog! Tickets are generally $ than standard theaters, and the best part: you can bring your own snacks, meals, and drinks! We buy our tickets online for quicker entry and bring our own meals (there is a concessions stand inside + restrooms if you get peckish). Spots are first come first serve, so definitely get there a little early if you want to grab a good view. Only downside I've noticed is the lack of patrolling in the lot once the movie starts. People often forget to turn off their headlights after the trailers, which can be distracting during the movie and make it difficult to view the screen. I'd appreciate if the staff could keep an eye out for this to help minimize issues and help keep the viewing experience enjoyable for everyone. read more

I've been coming to Capitol 6 since I was a kid. I live nearby and have always loved the drive-in experience here--but after our recent visit, I won't be coming back. We had tickets for the 8:50 PM showing and arrived at 7:00 PM, knowing it would be busy--and it was. Check-in was quick and efficient, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, that was the only positive part of the night. Theater etiquette was completely ignored. Multiple families with small children let their kids lean on our car and push our side mirror. The parents apologized, and we understood--kids will be kids--but the real problem was the larger groups nearby. At least five different families surrounding us were smoking marijuana, drinking alcohol, talking loudly, and leaning on our car--making it shake for nearly three hours. It was clear they had no interest in watching the movie; it was just a party to them. The smell, noise, and constant disruption gave me a headache and completely ruined the experience. And this was during a showing of Lilo & Stitch--a family-friendly movie. Who brings their kids to a film like that just to party, get high and drunk, and then drive home with their kids in the car? It's beyond irresponsible and incredibly frustrating to witness. Despite clear signage against marijuana use, there is zero enforcement. These families--again, with young kids--packed up and left 20 minutes before the movie ended, causing even more disruption and blocking the screen as they drove out. It's disturbing on so many levels. Capitol 6 used to be a fun, nostalgic place for me. Now, it just feels unsafe and out of control. After years of loyalty, I'm sad to say I won't be returning. read more

Movies are good price especially on Tuesdays. However when I went with my family, there was a constant weed smell outside and it made the experience less enjoyable. I do see signs that say no smoking but people still smoke. I even saw someone sparking a blunt outside. read more

I was so surprised by this place. FIRST TIME HERE. Great experience. We went to see Weapons last weekend so it was busy. The staff were so kind and friendly. I ordered jalapeno poppers for my friend which they don't make until I ordered. They were so good! I also got caramel popcorn when we drove in at the entry box and it was fresh and so bomb. I also got the nacho cheese and I love that they don't skimp on cheese. The cars around me were so considerate and parked a good distance from my car. Some people sat with their trunks open at their rears and some sat outside with foldable chairs. Brought my own radio to blast the sound in my car. We stayed in our seats in the car and my dog was chilling in my backseat :) It was nice to be able to bring her out with us even though she slept through almost the whole movie lol She just appreciated being outside under stars with us while eating fried chicken we brought for her haha I will be coming again. I recommend coming early as it does get packed come movie time. My absolute favorite drive-in theater. They have 4 screens, each playing different movies. They typically have 2-3 movie choices per day/night that have staggered start times. The lots are paved with bumps so that you can angle your car upwards to see the screens better. I'd recommend either watching out of your trunk with blankets and pillows or through your front windshield. Tip: If you don't want your car battery to die, you can rent out a mini speaker that they'll tune to the right channel for free at their office (inside the food area). They sell all of the regular movie foods (popcorn, hot dogs, ice cream, slushees, etc.) and have a small arcade area. They also have large bathrooms, but they're kind of dirty towards the end of the night (useable). Tickets are around $11-$15/person for adults. read more

The toilets in the women's washroom were all clogged and gross and the movie was suppose to start at 9 and didn't start until 9:15 AFTER my mom had to ask why the movie hadn't started yet. Overall fun for the nostalgia, but I won't be back. Doesn't seem like they take care of the facilities too well. PS it is VERY distracting when cars join the movie 45 minutes after it has started. You know what, I appreciate this place for what it is. The inside could honestly use a remodel but it is what it is. I'm just happy to still be able to enjoy a drive in movie. I've been bringing my son here for family movies for some time now and we've managed to have a good time. I had one instance when my car decided to die, more like break down completely ...I went in to ask for help and they sent someone out with a battery charger. It turned out to not even be my battery so they called for further help. A team helped push my SUV all the way out because there was a flea market the next morning. They were very kind about everything even when I was super embarrassed. I don't understand negative reviews, it's really not the place itself but some of the clientele (that's SJ for ya). That is out of their control. I will continue to come back, memories really out rule the negatives. read more

I honestly thought drive-ins didn't exist anymore, but my husband proved me wrong haha! Lo and behold, San Jose still has a drive-in movie theater! Now although this place is pretty beat up and looks like it hasn't been renovated or refreshed (or cleaned - lots of trash scattered on the ground throughout the parking lot) in decades, it still served its purpose well (especially in these covid times when many would prefer to not sit inside an enclosed space with strangers). It was actually my first time going to a drive-in, so I didn't know what to expect. We arrived about 45 min early and were maybe one of the first dozen cars to arrive for our particular screening (Minions 2: The Rise of Gru, thank you very much!) :) My sis-in-law rolled up about 10 min later with her kiddos and we were able to park side by side. A car parked near us basically made our entire drive-in experience awesome, because they had one of those big box speakers sitting on the ground right outside their car that basically gave us surround sound and perfect audio! We spent half the movie outside our car enjoying the cool evening, then sat inside with the windows rolled down once it got a little chilly. Our niece and nephew were all cozied up in the back of their SUV with blankets and pillows! Such a fun way to see a movie! Anyway, a huge thank you to the family that brought that big box speaker and even played some fun old school jams before the movie started. But with the comparison I would say the one in San Jose is really huge it has six screens!! Meaning they had a lot of movies playing at once and at different times too. Been coming here for several years now since it's the only drive-in theater nearby. The radio stations and screen are pretty consistent. The only inconvenience is the train tracks right behind the screens and gets pretty loud. Depending on your screen location it might be really bright in the background. Fortunately it's not consistently running in the background and only once in a while. The parking area has hills so you can be elevated for a better view. Concessions area: it's a little bit of a walk to get to the building. It's pretty pricey but they offer a membership. I liked their popcorn, I was delighted to see nearly every kernel was yellow and flavorful. They also have candy and other food available, but not too much of a selection. Unfortunately their icee machine seems to always have an issue. Overall I think it's a fun place to go to and the experience depends on what you do to make your "seats" fun and comfortable. I'd like to see this get renovated one day because the concessions building is a bit outdated. read more

I wanted to throw my daughter a special birthday party at the drive-ins, but the entire experience trying to plan it was extremely frustrating. I reached out multiple times for information via email on their website, Instagram, and even TikTok but got no response at all. Out of desperation, I drove down there in person and gave someone my email, and only then did I finally get a reply. I was told there were extras like putting my daughter's name on the screen or the radio, but I had to pay for in advance. When I asked how to pay, I never got a response. They do not coordinate well and don't respond to emails at all. It made planning something meaningful nearly impossible. Honestly, you might as well just show up a little early, buy all the tickets yourself, and pass them out to your guests. It'll save you the stress of trying to get a hold of anyone. We came to watch Lilo & Stitch, which should have been a fun night out, but it turned into something really unsettling. My boyfriend went to grab a radio from the concession stand like we always do, and when he came back, he told me he saw three rats outside. I was shocked but not too alarmed since we've never had issues here before. We usually buy snacks, but this time we brought our own food. After the movie, I really needed to use the restroom. I parked the car and asked him to come with me because I get squeamish around rodents. As soon as I walked in, I heard scattering noises and then saw a rat running across the floor. I asked him to carry me because I was so freaked out. Then we saw three more rats in the trash just hanging out. They were big, and there were even baby rats. That made it clear the place is infested. It's really concerning because this is where kids come and where they serve food. All the doors were wide open, so the rats can easily get inside. We thought about telling the staff, but we had a feeling they already knew. I honestly hope they shut it down and fumigate. This is a serious health issue and not something to ignore. read more

The last drive-in in San Jose! It was my first time going to a drive-in and I had a great time seeing Grease! There was a special deal for National Drive-In Movie Day, so all movies were $5 and the nachos were $2. They were also showing throwback movies (Top Gun, Back to the Future, Grease, the Goonies). The movie audio is broadcasted through FM radio and they tell you which station to tune in to when you buy your ticket. We brought a portable radio with us for the movie audio so we didn't have to leave the car on. There seemed to be a few cars who were lost and ended up at the wrong screen, but overall I enjoyed the experience! Grease is my favorite musical of all time and it was just so fitting that it was my first drive-in movie. Also loved being able to sing along to the tunes with my family and just chill and laugh during our favorite parts! Definitely recommend! read more

I love the drive-ins. It's a great way to get out of the house and get some fresh air with friends. The movie I saw "Black Phone" was decent but I wanted to give my thoughts how the venue in general can be better. The radio channel the movie was supposedly playing on wasn't working in my car or on my phone. (Never got a reason why) I had to go and get a portable FM radio from the front. Not to mention there was a 10 minute line & missed the first few minutes of the movie. Not a huge deal. Secondly, security was walking around making sure people were behaving but allowed a few cars to keep the taillights outside cars on? It was very distracting. It's such a good date night! it's pretty reasonable--not as expensive as a normal movie theater. the concessions are amazing because the popcorn bucket gets a refill and they have tio pepe's churros! you also get rewards if you're a member, and last time i got a free churro. you can bring whatever you want! we always bring our dog to join in on movie night, although she sleeps most of the time. but sometimes, i'll bring some beer or other snacks, which is amazing. the new laser extreme (LX) projectors are so good, you don't even have to wait for low moon illumination. the only things is, it gets super crowded on friday and saturday, of course, so plan accordingly. and maybe the concessions area could be nicer. read more

I've seen the place packed pre-COVID when they come out with new releases, multiple blockbuster movies playing on different screens. But I didn't expect it to ever be like that during COVID. I was wrong. Went on a Saturday night, long line of cars stretched onto the main street (just like old times)... of course, no real new movies playing, but I saw The Little Things, a Denzel Washington movie. Love going to the West Wind Capitol Drive In. It's a really good deal cost-wise, not as expensive as the movie theatre (which are closed right now anyway due to COVID), an even better deal when they have double-features... and it has a nostalgic feel to it. During COVID, they shifted to advanced tickets online, so it's easy, you just get the bar code scanned on your phone when you arrive (though you can still puchase tickets on site). Ticket stands operate from both sides, so cars can line up on either side, but the employee in each ticket booth alternates to help from both windows. Clockwise when you enter is screen 1-6, so if you order in advance and know which screen your movies on, it's easier to go to a ticket booth closer to that side, unless you want to cross a bunch of cars and pedestrians going in different directions after you enter. They don't have stop signs, but their system works. Then of course you can park anywhere in your screen's lot, up close, in the back, it's up to you, the screen's large enough for a great experience regardless, and picture quality is good too. But if you come late and it's a popular movie, be prepared for a packed lot without many parking options. The ground is not level in the screen lots, so you can angle your vehicle upwards depending on your windshield or viewing preference. They have a battery jump starter if your car battery dies while watching a movie, but most people start their car 1-2 times during a movie to try to avoid this, since you need the radio set to a certain station to hear the movie. Their concession stand and restrooms are centrally located, with easy access from any screen, though you will have to cross the entering cars if you are coming from screens 1 or 2. They offer all the goodies you would get at a typical movie theater (popcorn, soda, hot dogs, pizza, candy, etc), though their menu might be limited during COVID. They even have arcades inside their main building, but they're not available during COVID, and they limit the # of people allowed inside at a time. The only not-so-great thing is that they show movies when it gets dark, so sometimes the first showtimes are at 8 or 9pm depending on the time of year... but they do have late showtimes too sometimes after midnite, or even after 1am, for all those night owls. West Wind Capitol Drive In is a great option for families to get out of the house, especially during COVID. And it's also the perfect date night, bring your own food or booze if you like (but don't drink and drive). read more

We visited this place back in 2020 when outdoor theaters got popular. We saw Wonder Woman at that time. Experience was quite different. Show started at 8:30pm when it started becoming dark outside. Since it was summer and Saturday night, the lines were huge to get it so it gets busy often. And lots of parking spots where you can park and open your windows and enjoy the atmosphere. They will tell you to which frequency you need to tune in your car radio so you can listen to your movie. At a time, they screen 6-8 movies which are separated by different parking lots playing their movies at different frequencies. read more

Thankful that I could enjoy a movie (although I didn't enjoy the one I chose) in the comfort of my own vehicle. There were a few cars where people were outside their vehicles, but it was too dark to tell if they were wearing masks. However, I doubt it because I could hear their conversations quite clearly. I do wish that they had the little speaker that goes inside your vehicle. They don't so, I had to have my window cracked so I could enjoy someone else's speaker. Otherwise you have to use your radio for the sound of the movie. This would work as I can turn my lights off and still play my radio, but then I run the risk of having my car battery die. Next time I will bring the one radio that I own and that will satisfy everything. $8.50 is a reasonable cost for a movie these days. Plus you can stick around for the movie after because I asked. So really if they have three movies playing one night, it's like each person pays $2.83 per movie. Please note that the $8.50 is per person. SO if you have five people in your vehicle, the cost will be $42.50, not $8.50. Due to COVID, I didn't venture out to the snack bar or restroom, so I can't speak on what they have to offer or how clean they are keeping the facilities. read more

My husband and I have been her dozens of times. It's always an exceptional experience at the movies. Previously we have ordered the same food at the concession stand and loved it! We were shocked how good the tacos came out. Sadly this time we had Michelle make our tacos and they didn't turn out well. For $18 you would expect warm meat and tortillas, I don't know if she just rushed through the process but the food way cold and there were more onions than usual. Overall not the best experience.
