I'd forgotten how small the theaters are, but still found it a comfortable experience. The staff at the front was helpful and they had the red licorice I wanted at the snack bar. My family and I (6 people total) came on Sunday for a noon showing of Wicked. Tickets were $6.50/person and you honestly can't beat that price nowadays. Note, if you buy tickets online, there is a $1.50/person online convenience fee. There were 2 gentlemen working that were useless - one Caucasian male with dark curly hair and glasses and a Caucasian male with buzzed blonde hair. Both saw our party come in and did not greet us or offer to help us. We were later acknowledged and helped by Mike who was friendly and helpful. If you buy a Large popcorn, it comes with a free refill. There is plenty of parking as it's located in the Almaden Plaza strip mall. Tesla chargers are also available near the Starbucks. read more

Would NOT recommend!! This is a disgrace to the movie industry. If you want to come here with friends or a significant other..DONT. Totally bad service when coming into theatre. Really bad encounter with a male worker. Didn't fully refund our tickets. The cost was cheap...but you can totally tell why. I am boycotting this place. There are so many other AMAZING theaters to go to: this is not one of them. The workers are rule following fun wreckers. They wouldn't let our significant other into the theater bc we looked too "young" keep in mine we are most definitely OLD ENOUGH. So stupid...this place sucks. read more

Well, it appears that after posting my initial review, the theater adjusted the business hours on Yelp to reflect an opening time of 12:00 pm, rather than 10:15 am. While that's a step in the right direction, be cautious, since, as I stated in my review, I showed up at the theater at 12:00 pm to try to purchase tickets and was told to return at 1:10 pm. So, if you're short on time and can't get through to anyone at the theater, it's best to just wait until 20 min. before the first showtime. read more

If you are Black or Brown, there's always a non zero chance you'll be discriminated against anywhere you go. I never thought it would happen at a movie theater though. I was with my very light skinned friends two of whom are white passing. The girls had their bags I had a coat with me which I took off right before entering the building. We all got our tickets and snacks and were about to head off to the theater when one of the employees (I'm guessing he was a shift lead) stopped me and asked me to shake my coat out. I looked at him and did it without a thought, but afterwards I started feeling hot with embarrassment and anger. I had my coat hanging on my arm. He had absolutely no reason to believe I was hiding anything. He could have asked my friends to show their purse and bag, but didn't. None of us had anything to hide regardless, but I was singled out in front of my friend because someone looked at me and thought I was more likely to be sneaking something in. I will never go here again. I know to a lot of people this encounter might look more up to interpretation, but in the moment it was very clear to me what happened. It was a very light skinned white passing guy. I confronted him afterward and he said people sneak stuff in all the time. I just stared at him and said "right." And walked away. I just wanted to watch the dang movie. Do what you will with this information. read more

Great movie theater option if you're looking for a chill movie experience. Love bringing the kids to this small theater. The seats are comfortable, the theater rooms aren't ginormous, and the bathrooms are always close by (those with 3-7 year olds will appreciate this greatly!) The staff is always friendly, the snack options are plentiful, and the parking is always manageable. I love that I can still share this small joy of catching a new movie at the theaters with my kids! Cute small theater, tickets are cheaper than other chains and the theaters are small so most seats will have a good view. There aren't a lot of commercials since it is a smaller theater, so recommend getting there on time. read more

As a movie fan lover, I'm glad I discovered this place because it is close to my apartment. It is similar to laemmle but the theater is slightly bigger. The price was 7 bucks for an adult on a weekend. The screen size is really small compared to AMC and Regal theaters but also a third of the price. Unfortunately there are other people in the theater watching the same movie at the same time, I saw "barbarian" a creepy horror movie and the experience was still acceptable. The seats were comfortable and the snacks at the concession stands are decently priced as opposed to the competition. I would definitely watch a movie here as opposed to the big theaters although the experience is not as good. But the 7$ ticket is just hard to pass on compared to 20$ at AMC and Regal. Customer service was okay, the area around looks deserted and environmentally unsafe as there is loitering and some weirdos walking outside. Luckily they don't beg or harm you although I do feel bad they are in need of shelter and health. I usually give change if they need any. The surrounding stores are small shopping places and a few places to eat but nothing amazing. The environment again is unpleasant. read more

Not eating on experience from the movie per say, but eating the service since our movie was not able to show due to technical difficulties. The staff was pretty calm and used a credit for us to use in the future. It's my first experience going through that but how collective they were and able to execute the process. If I can give more than 5 stars for this Almaden cina Lux theater, and I would. The theater is clean & modern. Comfortable wide chairs, wide armrests, but the armrests did not move. They're not obnoxiously loud like the other theater. This theater is a terrific spot for cheap ticket prices and snacks like popcorns, pretzels, candies, fries, alcohol. Sounds system is good & clean restroom . I m happy today with Jonathan ( manager, I guess ) , his service is phenomenal and pleasant, welcoming. Please give him a raise. I also break my diet to eat salted pretzels and fries. They are a delectable snack for watching John Wick movie. This theater is small, but I like low-key and come back more & more for their best service read more

We booked a private Birthday party for my 9 year old son. We choose Minecraft on its opening day, for our movie. The theater was pristine, our pre-ordered drinks/popcorn was nicely arranged and we had the whole place to ourselves. My son said it was his best Birthday party ever! We filled all 40 seats with kids and parents. It was extra nice that they had all the regular concessions plus adult beverages too. I would highly recommend Cinelux for your next event and/or Birthday party!! read more

Small theater so only 4 movies being screened at a time. Not cleanest but good enough that's close by and cheaper when buying tickets in person. However, it's recommended to reserve the tickets online to guarantee the seating since it's a small theater. I'm overall a satisfied customer. Went to Cinelux Almaden to watch the Super Mario Bros movie during their opening weekend. My husband had purchased tickets online and had reserved our seats ahead of time. It seems that you get to pick your seats when you purchase your tickets in person or online. Since we had reserved seats, we figured we could get away with rolling in just in time for the movie (so we could skip the commercials). When we got to the movie theater, the movie had started maybe 10-15 minutes in, and we found our seats were taken. The only seats left were at the very front row. We had missed part of the movie already at that point, so we went back to the register to see if we could exchange our tickets for the next available showing. The manager ended up helping us and offered to have the people in our seats moved or a ticket exchange to a later time. We opted for the latter option. Seat choices were limited though, and we ended up in the second row from the front. The manager was apologetic and even gave us a free large bag of popcorn and drinks for our new showing. It wasn't necessary, but a nice perk, we thought! The manager did mention that sometimes people scan for better/empty seats after the movie has started, since they assume that the person/people who reserved the seats aren't coming -- just a fun fact if anyone else plans to roll in like we did. read more

My favorite movie theatre! Love this quaint neighborhood movie theatre - matinee prices are amazing ($6.50 for adults), and they're always showing the big movies. The theatres range in size (some of them just have 5 rows, others are a bit larger). I recommend buying your tickets online so you can easily see the available seats and theatre size (if that matters to you). Seats are all cushion-y and nice enough. The concession lines can get long so I recommend coming in early to get your popcorn + in your seats! read more

It's a pretty decent theater with really good prices. Watched the opening day of fast and furious 9 and for two tickets we paid $22. The place is pretty small however, the seats aren't leather, so not very sanitary I feel? At least the seats have assigned seating! I also ordered a glass of wine and it was put into a beer cup, and only a 1/4th of the cup was filled up for about $7??? Kind of not worth it in my opinion..... Not sure if I'd consistently come back, but would do so for cheaper tickets compared to other theaters. read more

Cinelux Almaden is an old fashioned no frills movie theatre with a lot of charm and a cool retro feel. Their auditoriums are pretty small in size compared to other theaters, but it's a nice intimate setting. If you purchase tickets in advance online, you don't really need any face to face service at the theater since you have the info on your phone, so you know which auditorium and seats to go to, and it's quick and easy when you arrive. It's never been crowded here, since it's a small unpopular theater without those comfy luxury recliners that other theaters offer. But the seats here aren't stiff, they rock back and forth a little and have comfortable enough cushioning, plus plenty of legroom. The arm rests do not go up though. No complaints about the sound and picture quality. It was perfect to enjoy my viewing of Jurassic World Dominion this past Saturday night. And on a hot day, movie theaters sometimes blast the AC, and it gets too cold. But it was a perfect comfortable temperature inside the auditorium. They serve your typical food items at the concessions stand (pizzas, hot dogs, nachos, pretzels, candy, ice cream), but on this night they were out of hot dogs (that's a first, for any theater to be out hot dogs!?!). At least they have popcorn, with self-serve butter dispenser. I tried the pepperoni pizza, and though it was a little oily (I had to soak up the grease with napkins before I ate it), it was delicious and not cheap tasting (except the sauce), and only takes 5 minutes in the oven when you order. I had a glass of red wine which was decent. They only had one kind, Dream House. I do like that they serve alcoholic beverages here, several beers on tap, wine (one red option, one white option, and sparkling wine), and a couple cocktails (they only offer moscow mule and classic margarita). They also have those "create your own" self serve soda machines, but the pepsi version (not Coca Cola), so the options are a bit limited, but you can still add flavors (ie. vanilla, cherry, strawberry, etc.) to any soda. The employee said they close the concessions stand around 10pm (but they served until around 10:30pm on this day). Still, that early closing time is a bit disappointing since they have movie start times at 10:30pm or later. What if people want snacks before a later showtime? Or another glass of wine during their movie? Not that big of a deal though I guess. Overall, I like catching flicks at this theater for a simple laid back experience, sufficient amenities and good service. Plus lots of parking outside, since there's a shared parking lot for the plaza. read more

Bought our tkts thru Fandango and NEVER received the tickets. Didn't realize this until at the ticket counter. Had to repurchase more tickets when we arrived. Was told by the ticket person to call Fandango Customer Service who told me since the movie had already started I was not eligible for a refund. $27 and for what? Not to mention had to spend another almost $30 to repurchase tkts in person. Not worth it. Will go to Century 16 next time or wait until the movie is streaming. Too much $$ wasted on their online platform. Update: I was contacted by Chris at Cinelux who kindly contacted Fandango and requested a refund for me. We took in a film yesterday. The picture quality and sound quality were excellent. I particularly noticed that the sound system was quite good. We enjoy patronizing this location because of its proximity to our home and the value of this chain. However, I was rather uncomfortable with the warm temperature of the theater, resulting in a one star deduction. This is my go-to theater. The prices are pretty much the lowest in town, the theater is always very clean. The bathrooms are well-kept. I love that I can purchase wine and watch a movie like an adult. :) I'd say I see a movie there about every 6 weeks or so.
