Going to a double-feature at the drive-in is one of those fun pastimes that I think a lot of people forget about but always enjoy doing. The Concord Solano drive-in is still operational and shows evening movies. The same location hosts the Solano swap meet on Sundays. They have a concession stand for movie goers with popcorn, ice cream, and other snacks. However, snacks aren't that great and you can certainly bring anything you want from home. Certain movies are very crowded here so it's best to show up a little bit early if you want a good spot and are seeing something popular. Dont forget to cozy up your vehicle with blankets, pillows, and everything else to make your night a romantic outing or family-friendly adventure. read more

I hadn't been to a drive-in since I was a kid in the 80s. I imagine it's a fine experience for big, bright action/superhero movies. For anything with a lot of dark scenes or an intricate plot with a lot of detail, it's not the greatest. We saw Malignant and Candyman the other night, and often had trouble distinguishing which character was speaking due the low-light of the picture. I streamed Malignant the next night, and picked up whole subplots and visual jokes that I missed entirely at the drive-in. It's not really their fault, I suppose, so 3 stars, but stick to action movies with easy-to-follow plots at the drive-in is my recommendation. read more

We got there on a Tuesday and it was surprisingly very empty (I actually thought it might be closed), which I didn't mind of course. It's also very close to a busy road so you'll see headlights and street noise a lot. Something to keep in mind if you sit outside. We had about 15 minutes until the movie started and was all the way at the front of the parking lot so it was a bit of a walk. About halfway there, the movie started! It was 15 minutes early! Which was really upsetting my daughter and I missed the first 15 minutes or so. So we hurried to get snacks and of course, I stupidly forgot our masks (something I usually never do) and asked if they had any. They charged $1 each, which I'm not sure how I feel about it. I understand they need to cut back costs but if it's a requirement... I don't know... anyway... the popcorn was super stale and cold and the Jr Mints (that were IN THE FRIDGE!) were completely melted into a big blob! $24 for a med stale popcorn, melted box of candy, and a drink! Absolutely not worth the price! This was our first trip to this drive in and it definitely was NOT someplace I would recommend. On the upside, however, it is nice to be able to watch a movie in a Covid safe environment with my child. The parking spaces are very sloped so that was nice to park on and provided a great view. I love this place; truly. But today for the first time since I started coming here, I had to sit through ten minutes my worth of commercials. The same commercials I can watch at home. Not previews. Commercials. Too much. I get that it is an income source for the theatre, but it is not appropriate and I hope they reconsider this new income stream. read more

We have visited this place about 5 times, at this point. They need to sweep the lots to remove (at minimum) the shards of glass or other material that will hurt people's tires. Everything has been kosher until the latest visit, which was just a nightmare the entire time. We arrived an hour and a half early to get a "good spot". There's supposed to be 2 cars per marked area, but bc of how we'd parked, a 3rd car pulled in (with about a 13-point turn). Her car was beat to hell on every side. She was twitchy and weird and left her lights on until at some point, I asked her to turn those off. From start to end of movie, she left about 8 times (to use the bathroom/concessions, because GAWD...who wants to walk 100 ft when you can DRIVE?!?). Most of these entrances resulted in her being so close that I literally couldn't open our doors when I went to get something. On two of these in/out adventures, she hit cars (so she hit 2 cars in an hour and a half). She also never turned her car off. We spoke with staff after the 2nd car, because she kept returning to the spot next to us so it was worrisome. Who wants a "fun night" at the drive-in where you have to jockey your phone every time your neighbor leaves because you've literally seen them do hit-and-runs twice even before the crazy all-out Exodus at the end of the movie? The staff essentially told us this was our problem (not theirs), and we "could move if we felt unsafe". Being Day #2 of this movie's release, it was packed, so there were no "other spots". I've contacted management, but after 2 hrs commute and getting there early just to be told that they wouldn't enforce any rules they've clearly stated on-site (no lights, turn car off, 10' spacing) as well as hitting other cars, there's zero chance we'll return, and high probability that I will blast this place to anyone looking to go. read more

Going to the drive in is always such a great experience! As of July 2018, you can pay for tickets via credit card upon entry. You can also purchase a refillable popcorn bucket for $7.50 cash only. The atmosphere of the drive in is amazing. Great for families. Great for dates. Great for bonding. With the price being cheaper than the average movie theater ticket, this is always a great option. The food here is not the greatest, but it is affordable. Don't forget that bringing your own food from your favorite places is also an option!! !Epic Birthday Party At WestWind! WestWind's Customer service is over-the-top.This place and these wonderful people gave my nephew a Luau birthday party he will not forget. Well technically the luau was already planned, but he didn't know that!!!! We had reserved space to watch the movie complete with a table for the cake that was dressed and a gazillion balloons-his name was up on the marquee with a special happy birthday message-they had bull riding or should I say mechanical bull riding-face painting-Hawaiian barbecue food truck-a real train- a live band in a band stand that they built Just for that night. And they did all of this for no charge other than the price of admission and the cost of our food. I kept saying thank you to the staff and got the same response "we do it for the smiles!" I tell you it's been a long time since I've experienced customer service like the service provided at WestWind Concord! They are consistent in their objective of providing a fun, safe space for families 365 days a year. The last time I was at the drive-ins was probably 1984 at the Union City Drive-in. When I say that I feel so old!!! Anyway, the drive-in has come along way. No more of those metal squawk boxes. You stream the movie on your FM radio. We've come along way baby!!! It was the first of warm evening that we've had this year., so we loaded 2 cars up with preteens and off we went. The prices to get in are way better than the movie theaters. Which is awesome!!! We pulled out chairs, brought are own candy and drinks, so saved a pretty penny. We did get popcorn which didn't cost us $20 for a bag. The kids loved the evening under the stars, and when the movie was over off we went to In & Out Burger. The kiddos and myself are looking forward to Summer nights at the drive-in. read more

I actually like this drive in movie because their price is reasonable starting at $8 per adult and their concession offers popcorn, hotdogs, nachos, drinks, & candies!! We got popcorn, hotdog, & nachos for only $20! You can bring your own food as well. I appreciate the restroom being clean and staff wears mask and reminds people to social distance. What a wonderful find. I didn't know drive-ins existed any longer. We came out mid-week with our dinner, snacks and wine. The drive-in sound system was way better than the "old days". The sound now comes through your FM radio station. I suggest you check their website and check your FM radio. We had a great surround sound system in the car, so the movie sounds were very realistic. The parking lot was clean and it was spaced at least 6 feet apart from the neighbor next door. You could even bring portable chairs and sit outside if it is a warm night. The experience was great! My only minor complaint, the screen was much smaller than when we went long time ago. Wish it was larger! But in the age of Covid, it will do. This is a great family treat!! read more

I love Drive-Ins. It's so personable and family oriented. We came here on a week day to see the Jungle Cruise. We got here about 45 minutes early just to be safe. I also prepaid for our tickets online and was able to use a QR code to check-in. It wasn't too crowded throughout the night. They only have to screens so I could see it getting more packed on a weekend. I ordered the concessions through an app on my phone and it was ready super quick. The weather was nice so we set our camping chairs outside our car. The movie quality was kinda dark, but pretty good for the most part. I had a great time. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. said they would issue a refund but didn't even issue a full refund. I called them on Dec 22nd left a voicemail and I've been waiting for a call back. Haven't heard anything. If they do this to a lot of people their making a big profit !! For no reason. I was treated badly by several employees, didn't get to watch my movie, wasted an hour of my time waiting for it to start as well as my gas. Yet I got shorted $2. Yes I get it only $2 no big deal. But it is considering I wasted my gas and got no reimbursement, was told by a manger I could get a refund but yet when I went to the box office they refused. I had to tell them I'd sit and wait until they got a manager out there to issue me refund. Only then did they give me one. read more

Went here tonight for the first time in a while and it sure brings back memories! I used to come here in High School all the time on summer nights and sit in a pick-up truck bed with all my friends. I feel like this place is a staple for the East bay and we are really lucky to have one near us. One thing I love about coming here is how much cheaper it is than going to the normal theatre on a weekend night. $8 a person but also can bring in your own food! I pop my own popcorn with my home popcorn machine and brought it in. Another thing I like is being able to talk with whoever I'm with during the movie since nobody can hear us. :) I have a tendency to want things explained to me sometimes if I missed something. I wish the security in their little cart would drive around more. There are times when one sketchy stuff goes on. One thing to be aware of is having the audio playing on the radio does drain the car battery... my fiancé is the type to help everyone and last time we were here he gave 2 people a jump after the movie.. I was sitting there like 'can we go please'. ;) Overall 5 stars and I hope this place stays open for a long time! read more

Used to be able to see a double (or even triple) feature here for an excellent price. Now it's $8 per adult (FYI- 12 year olds are apparently adults) for a single movie. Want to see the second movie? Another 8 bucks per person. And you have to pack up, exit the premises, wait in line and then you get to re-enter. Not worth it. I came here on a Sunday night with my BF as a surprise. I had no idea we were coming here until an hour beforehand. He wanted to take me here to watch a movie and the movie he chose is one of my favorites! We watched Iron Man and was too exhausted to watch the second movie. We were able to find a good spot easily. As we entered the line was a little long, there were two screens, and they charge per person. So for both of us, it was about $17, which isn't bad. After we found a spot to watch the movie we went out to grab snacks from the snack bar. The line was a little long and a little confusing to follow. People respected the social distancing rule and were 6 ft apart. We ordered a large popcorn, Slurpee, and a water bottle all for $15. I was really surprised by how affordable the food items were here because this would have easily been about $30 at a regular movie theater. I highly recommend coming here for date nights, family night, or social distancing movie night with friends. Come early to find a good spot if you plan to come in groups and bring blankets or other items to make you comfortable. I will be back soon! read more

What a great place to take your entire family! I grew up going to this drive in, so taking my two kids was so fun! They loved it! We decked out our trunk with blankets and pillows, dressed in our pjs and "camped" out watching our movie! The kids really enjoyed it, and all the snacks from the concession stands! We come here with our toddler who wont sit still in a theater. Theres also a playground by the snackbar but we haven't played in it since its usually really late and shes happy watching the big screen from the car and bouncing around from seat to seat. I had a pleasant experience last night watching a double feature (Angry Birds 2 and Dora the Movie). Compared to the very very old days when they gave you portable speakers to put in your car, nowadays they'd give you an FM frequency/channel that you could tune in on to get the sound for the movie. It was awesome, we could turn up or turn down the volume if we wanted to. The lot was pretty huge with each parking stall being very spacious and wide, giving enough space to people if they wanted to set up fold-up chairs or lay a blanket to sit on the ground. They also had a building for concession where you could purchase drinks, snacks like popcorn and candies too. Right next to the concession building were the bathrooms which were clean (thank you, yes!). At a price of $8 per person, a double feature wasn't a bad deal at all. I'd definitely go back to watch some more movies at this drive in theater. read more

My brother and his GF Katie loaded up his 4 younger sisters in the station wagon and took us to see Grease here. I since have been back many times, I load the mini van up with my ex-GBFF and my daughter and we go to the kid movies. After all these years in Concord, I finally went to this theater. It's one of the last drive-ins remaining in the Bay Area, the ones I remember seeing (Geneva in SF/DC, Burlingame) have been redeveloped and the Coliseum one is now a swap meet only. So this is a bit of living history. They try to be retro, but they also bring in modern conveniences: play area for the kids, the sound is on your car radio instead of a speaker, movies are on DVD instead of film. Recent releases, with a few exceptions. What I appreciate is that they keep the property well-maintained: screen looks new, fresh paint, parking lot in good condition, buildings are clean. I understand that they'll jump-start your car for free if the battery ran low playing the radio. We were there on a promo night (free movie and $1 nachos!). Kind of a rough crowd, and at one point we smelled a substance that, um, may have come from on high, if you know what I mean. Didn't feel dangerous, though, and the crowd kept quiet once the movie was going. With two screens and a limit of four movies/night, there may not be a movie you'd want to see in this environment. But it's good to check out. What I hope for is an occasional classic movie night, showing films that actually were shown at the drive-ins during their heyday, such as the masterpiece "Plan 9 From Outer Space" :-) read more

How To Train Your Dragon 2 was showing at 8:55 PM last Saturday, so my friend and I decided to make a date night out of it. After stopping by Chik-fil-A for food, we headed for the drive-in and turned onto Solano Way at around 8:45 PM. We were greeted by the sight of a loooooooonnnnnnnggggg, winding line of cars that seemed to stretch further than our eyes could see. My friend apologized and asked if I wanted to turn around, but as we drove by the lot and saw that there were still enough empty spaces to make waiting in line worth a try, we decided to chance it. That's the first piece of advice I'd give - try to get there at least a half hour before the posted showing time to hopefully bypass such a line and get your choice of parking. However, even if you manage to get there just 5 to 10 minutes prior, don't necessarily allow yourself to immediately be deterred by the line. In fact, it moved pretty quickly and we were still able to get a great parking spot with 3 to 4 previews still left to air. Not bad! Another tip - do not, do not, do not try to weave your way through the drive-in lot. It's not like zig-zagging through your average grocery store lot, and NO these are nowhere close to being like soft sand dunes. It's hard concrete, folks, and your car will not be happy with you. Other tips - make sure to come in comfy clothes because you will more than likely be in your car for the majority of that 2-3 hour film. Bring your blanket and maybe a neck pillow, but leave the stuffed animals at home because people CAN still see you through your glass windows. Lots of drinks and snacks are also a must. I used to go to the drive-in all the time when I was younger and they still had them in what is now the Union City Landing. I have a lot of great memories going with my family and I'm so glad that places like this still exist! read more

Load up the truck, car or SUV. Pack some snacks or "go to the lobby." Pull into a slot and tune your radio to 105.7. It has been a very long time since I'd been to a drive-in movie. It was a blast! Back in "my day" they charged by the car load. Everyone would pile in... over and under to squeeze as many people as possible in one car load! And of course, the trunk would accommodate those that were not claustrophobic.( Present company excluded!) Today, they charge per person. $7.50 for adults and $1.00 for children 5-11. Those under 4 are free. Tuesday is family night. Adults are $5.00 and still only $1.00 for children 5-11 years. Still a bargain! We arrived an hour before the 8:55 showing of Pixels. Plenty of time to find a good spot. Wouldn't get there much later however! Backed the suburban up, opened up the double doors, and laid out our pillows & blankets. Perfect! I packed up lots of candy, water and snacks. However, we still made a trip to the lobby to check it out! No shortage of treats available! Popcorn, candy, soda, ice cream... etc. we picked up some popcorn to go with our snacks. Nothing like buttered movie popcorn! There were arcade games, a play structure for the kids & clean bathrooms. The staff was friendly & helpful. Great family atmosphere. It was fun for me & my kids! We will definitely come back! Looking forward to many more fun times & memories! read more

The only reason I'm giving this place 4 stars instead of 3 is because of the free drive in movie night they have every once in a while. They offer two options of back to back movies FREE! for one night. Recently I took the gf to watch Monsters, Inc 2 and Iron Man 3. We got there early to get a good spot and ended up waiting outside in a line of cars. However, once we got in, it wasn't even all that bad. There was a steady stream of cars coming in for a bit, then after a while it died down. As the movie start time got closer however, the place did get pretty packed. The snack area has a huge variety of drinks, candies, and other typical movie goer foods. The prices aren't bad, nothing more than you would expect at any movie theater. The worst thing about this place is THE SMOKERS. I swear we've gone to three movie nights here (free and NOT free) and there are constantly people outside smoking weed. Hey. I'd love to not judge, but we were second handing it all night in a parking lot FULL of kids. I'd love to blame it on the staff for not policing better, but honestly, it's prob pretty difficult to keep a handle on that. So, I'm still a fan. Just be sure to pack some blankets and pillows. And maybe a battery powered boom box. Some car radios can't stay on unless the car itself is running. Meaning BATTERY IS DEAD. I saw some staff people walking around at the end of the night with jumper cables. But, be prepared! read more

Came here on a date a couple months ago, and man...I think I was so excited for the entire week leading up to the actual event! The luxury of going out and staying in (your car) all at the same time. With pillows, blankets, and Jelly Belly's =D. So cute to see people set-up lawn chairs and have the whole set-up and system down. Lol. And now here's the kicker -- our car actually died from leaving the engine on, but the workers there were so chill, speedy, and efficient at regenerating the power. AWESOME! I came here for my first ever drive-in movie. At $7 a per person for a double feature this place can't be beat. The concessions were also pretty cheap, we got popcorn, a soda, nachos, a burger, popcorn seasoning, and candy for about 25 bucks. The only other drive-in i've seen or been to is the one in Sacramento, but to our disappointment the lot was full of tailgaters who think they're Eminem, we turned around after finding the lot too hill-billy for our tastes. But the West Wind Drive in Concord wasn't too packed, from what I could see there were a good mixture of families, friends, date-rapers and juveniles alike in the parking lot. We didn't really have any trouble with any of out neighbors like Cindie had mentioned, everyone seemed to mind their own business. I will definitely have to come here for another double feature, I just need to remember to bring some pillows and maybe other food to-go. I haven't been to a drive-in since HS, so when I happened across this place I wanted to share the experience with my family. Everything was easy from getting the tickets to the new bathroom protocol because if COVID-19. There are staff members around everywhere being helpful & making sure people are following the rules. This was appreciated so you don't feel like you have to police other people. Everyone was well-behaved, but we were watching Trolls & Outward so maybe it was a nicer crowd of folks. Regardless, my teenager said it was a lot of fun & thankful I planned this night out. My advice is to get there about an hour early & bring good amounts of food & snacks since concession is closed. Don't forget your mask too since it's mandatory anytime out of your car & you can only walk to restroom. We couldn't even talk to our friends who parked right next to us, but we understood - strict but understandable. read more

I have to update my review and give a shout out for state of the art technology. If I've got my facts right, Solano Drive-in is the 2nd drive-in in America to offer DLP technology on their big screen. It debuted this week, and I have to say that the video quality is terrific. They do only have it on one of their two screens, the one on the right side as you enter. Apparently, it's quite pricy to install, which is why they didn't upgrade both screens.
