They do walk-ups too!
Connie L.

If you ever find yourself at the Commissary parking lot on Schofield base, the line of cars you'll see near the street isn't to get into the grocery store; it's to get coffee! I've had my eye on this place as I always see the line of cars waiting to get their orders in. The long line proved its popularity, but I couldn't get myself to sit in a still car with my newborn baby in the backseat (mamas, you know what I'm talking about - baby won't sleep unless there's motion in the car!) Luckily, I walked up to the counter to check out the menu, assuming it was a drive-thru only, but nope, I was pleasantly surprised to find out they take walk-ups too! The staff are so friendly and gave me recommendations on their best sellers. I got their most popular drink, Tan Line. It was definitely on the sweeter side, but it was delicious nonetheless. The workers were so patient and accommodating; they made my drink in a quick and timely manner and even offered an exchange if I wasn't satisfied with their recommendation. For the price and the size, the product was great. You could taste the richness of the coffee and it's perfect roast, nicely complimented with all the other flavors this drink had with it. Definitely a good bang for your buck, especially in comparison to other coffee shops around. While this place is already popin' in terms of business, I highly recommend this cute, army green trailer parked to the right of the Commissary. Not only are you supporting local, but you are supporting a woman-owned and woman-ran veteran business.

This is just a temp review... I'll have to have another visit before I give my final review lol. I saw somewhere they had a smore coffee so I had to try. I always see Keri S. Having a banana bread chai drink I believe. So I'll need to get that one next. I'm not a huge fan of chai, but I have an open mind and banana bread, why not?! I have no idea what operations are like pre-covid, but its exactly as the name says. Drive thru Joe. Enter the commissary parking lot and make a right to the end to wait in line. Someone comes right up to your car to take your order, accept payment, then they run back your order when its ready. I can't give an honest opinion of the coffee. Major fail on my end. I wanted to try it so bad. I had clients scheduled in the area, so I picked up before my visits. As usual, whenever I get a coffee before work, it doesn't really get a chance to get in my belly til hours later. This was no exception. Left my drink in the car and still drank it. It was good, but I'm sure the flavors could've been way better fresh. Its not super often that I venture this way. I don't have base access so I either have a good reason with a day pass, or tag along with Mr G. Another bummer for me is the hours. Getting out this way before noon, for me, has got to be a huge anomoly! But, trust, I will make it there again to give it a fair shot!

they are going bananas this month!!

So it has been quite some time since this place has opened. It is my go to place for coffee. What I love the most is they change the menu up all the time! So far everything I have tried has been phenomenal. Here are my faves if you ever wonder what is good: - Hot or iced Latte with peppermint and white mocha. Ahh..it is like christmas in a cup all day, everyday. - Hot or iced Banana Nut Bread Chai. This baby is SO GOOD, it converted all my coworkers to DTJ addicts. - Caramel Creme Cold Brew Overall, I am always checking out their new coffee concoctions! They have new ones almost every month! They even have a keto coldbrew with 20g of protein. How fab is that! Anyway, if you are ever in the Schofield area, check this place out.

Iced tan line latte

Staff was friendly and helpful. My first time they helped me pick something from the menu I might like. I got the tan line ice latte . It's my new favorite drink. I also like that my drink isn't full of ice. I hate getting ice lattes within two sips you're done because the cup is filled to the top with ice. You won't find this problem here . My drink is still cold with minimal ice.

White mocha with chocolate walls

Drive thru Joe is the way to go! Located in the parking lot of Schofield Barracks Commissary, this locally owned drive thru coffee spot is the place to go. Yes you actually just drive thru, no getting out of your vehicle. The staff is extremely friendly. They are full of smiles and gratefulness for business support. They took the time to have us try our drink first and if any issues they would tweak or fix it. They except cash or credit card payments. They also have a loyalty rewards program. We got a hot white mocha with soy and an iced white mocha with soy and chocolate walls. I was sketchy only because I am a Starbucks junky and I particular about my "foofy" coffee. I was surprisingly impressed. I have NEVER gone to an establishment that met the par, I usually dumb it out and waste my money. I am proud to say, it was very good! I am happy and will continue to support this local business with good service and coffee!

To all those Southwestern people, this is the Dutch Bros of the island!!! AMAZING service meets delicious coffee! My personal favorite is the iced raspberry latte. They currently have a Thin Mint Mocha to celebrate and help out local Girl Scout troops during cookie season! Only on Hickam until the Starbucks finally opens at the BX, so hopefully that project is delayed...

Great coffee and the menu changes seasonally so you can try their new stuff. Need access to Schofield Base but otherwise.

Ask the Community - Drive Thru Joe

Any vegan options?

They do have dairy free alternatives, not sure about the syrups

Any chance for non military folks to try it? Thanks :)

Not unless you can get sponsored onto the base

Can anyone ask the owner if he has plans to eventually return to Hickam with a second truck? Fully understand the business decision to move ops to Schofield but we do miss him. Mahalo

There are currently 2 locations and he will be moving the van there as well! Located in PACAF HQ and Abele st!

My crazy @$$, drove along the side of the building and went to where they were. The owner, Shawna, told us we needed to wait in the parking lot. LOL! When she said they were ready, we ordered the shrimp and the bbq chicken. Since it was Wednesday, we got the special which came with all the sides. The chicken was sooooooo tender! The shrimp were nice and crispy! Loved the mac n cheese and those greens with the bacon... Soooooooo good! Nice butter corn and cornbread! Oh, and we got lumpia too...and you need to go early or they will be sold out! Shawna also gave a sample of the shrimp and catfish while we were waiting. That was really nice of her. After having Giovanni's before, I honestly enjoyed Jenny's more. The shrimp were plump, fresh, and cooked just right. The Garlic Shrimp had a rich buttery garlic flavor that wasn't overly greasy, while the Spicy Garlic Shrimp added a nice kick without overpowering the taste of the shrimp. Both plates came with plenty of sauce that paired perfectly with the rice. Service was friendly and the food came out relatively quickly. The portions were generous and filling, making it a great stop for lunch. The seating area is pretty basic and can get crowded during busy times. That said, the shrimp were delicious, and I'd choose Jenny's over Giovanni's if I'm craving garlic shrimp on the North Shore again.

It was crunchy. The fries were pipping hot and very tasty. We also tried a plate with some nice poke and coconut shrimp. The food is good quality and hits the spot. The problem was the amount of time it took to make and deliver the food to the customers. There were two people in the truck. It was as if they were cooking one thing at a time. It look at least an hour and there were not even that many people in line waiting. One woman was taking orders and the man was cooking. The woman said it was her first or second day but in the time my husband ordered, my other child and I walked around for twenty minutes looking for other options (I wanted garlic shrimp, and they did not offer that on their menu), I went across the way after our walk, ordered a meal, got my meal, and sat there waiting to eat and it still look half an hour for the rest of the family to receive their orders. It was absolutely ridiculous. As another patron stated on Yelp, perhaps they should have stopped taking orders if they could not keep up. Love the food here, but not sure I would recommend my family coming back next time.

They are located in the parking lot across the downtown shopping district of Hilo (in the park down from the KTA store and almost across Sig Zane). Look for the blue tarp with the 8 seats around a plastic folding table. The blue tarp is the give away when looking for it. It's run by Hawaiians, so you know the food is ONO (delicious). LUAU SQUID - My absolute favorite is the luau squid! It's made with fresh taro leafs stewed for along time with coconut milk and cut octopus. BOMBSHADIGGIDY ONOLICOUS!!! It taste just like the old days where grandma used to use the freshest ingredients to make the family favorites during dinner. A great portion (2 cups) served hot and steaming. You can get this with either poi or rice (get the poi!!!). $7.50 for the combination. Grade: A+ PORK LAULAU - super authentic laulau (taro leafs) steamed with fatty pork, salted fish. Wrapped in taro leafs and steamed for hours. Everything melts together because of the steaming. (Side order $4.00). Eat this with the poi and you have an authentic meal and tons of memories to talk about! Super ONO!. Grade: A! KULOLO - a dessert made of freshly grated taro root, coconut milk, and shreaded coconut.
