Throughout the test, he delivered instructions with all the clarity of a cryptic riddle, then acted annoyed when I couldn't magically decode them. And the reasons he gave for failing me? Let's just say they were so flimsy and bizarre that they felt pulled out of thin air. Judging by other stories I've heard, this seems to be Larry's personal brand: confusion mixed with condescension, topped with arbitrary judgment. Even if every single one of my supposed "mistakes" had been real, his final bit of "advice" was to read the driving manual--as if I hadn't already passed the written exam at the top of the score range. Slow as they can possibly be. No respect for peoples time. Two cameras out of service when I came in. Long lines of people just sitting and standing all around. Three lines? Really? What year is this the 1800s? If you want to ruin your day come here. This is possibly slower than Norristown and just as inefficient. read more

Extremely rude employee and manager. I went to renew my license after recently getting married and legally changing my name with the social security office. I was told I needed additional documentation to prove my new name, even with my updated SS card and marriage certificate. I asked to speak with the manager for clarification as I didn't understand how I was able to update my name with the SS office but not with the DMV. The "manager" was standing there with her arms crossed and when I asked how to rectify my situation, her response was "that's for you to figure out". I left and went to the DMV in King of Prussia. The employees there were very respectful, professional, and provided clarification on what I needed to do to update my license. Will not be back to the Malvern DMV location after that experience. read more

ANOTHER complaint regarding LARRY one of the drivers test instructors. Rude is even too kind of a description for this man. Daughter had the misfortune to get him for her test -he was mean right off the bat. She was scared to death when she started. Not a surprise he failed her. Funny that the same things he failed her on were the same things everyone else complained about. Have to wonder was it really valid or does this miserable old man get off on scaring people and failing them. Just a miserable person. Will also be sending a letter to the state. This man should not be employed in this position with all the negative views he has gotten. If you go for your test in Frazer and Larry is the instructor. Turn around and leave! read more

i just took my practical exam today and I am so happy that the lady examiner was so kind and nice. This is my 3rd time to take the practical exam and my last 2 exam was in DMV Norristown. I failed the 1st time because of parallel park, 2nd exam was because i was slow in turning, without the examiner saying any word while im driving. The 2nd time I thought I will pass because I did the parallel park and the diagonal park perfectly, all the signals was correct and I observed the speed limit. And after I failed the second time I decided not to go back to DMV norristown again even though its the nearest DMV from my place. Inside DMV malvern, the staffs too are very nice. For me, this place deserved a score of 10 stars. read more

People at this DMV are friendlier than some others. However I was told to grab a seat and had to laugh because there is not only no seats but people standing everywhere you can imagine. Took my son here to take his test. The examiner was a very sweet lady who was patient and put my son at ease. Tip: Do ALL of your required 65 hours and you'll pass with flying colors! We were scheduled for 9am. To take the test you don't go into the DMV, you get in line with your car at the side of the building (there's a big sign in front telling you what to do). Then an examiner will come and start the test. When you pass the test, the person that came with you, parks the car and you get your license printed. All told, it took about half an hour. OMG, my experience here was so much better than at the DMV in Norristown. I came to the Malvern location this morning for my road test. This was the 2nd time for me, as I failed my 1st test in Norristown (I messed up parallel parking - oops). There was no line of cars, and even though I was too early, the instructor came up to my car shortly after I parked it. He introduced himself as Robin, was very polite, friendly and explained things very well (unlike the instructor I had in Norristown). After parallel parking, I drove around the shopping center and I was done in a few minutes. Throughout the test I was given clear instructions. The facility inside surprised me, since I had only been to the Norristown location up until today. The Malvern location is so much more spacious and the person at the counter was very friendly as well. The whole process took about 45 minutes (probably not even that) - that is including parking, road test and waiting for my license to be printed. The parking ground is good for those who are nervous about parking, as other cars waiting in line won't be able to see you. In Norristown, everyone in line can just stare at how you are doing. The horror! For me, it took away some of the pressure. It had been 12 years since I passed my road test in Europe, and even though I feel confident driving, having to take another road test is a nightmare. The DMV in Malvern definitely made the experience more pleasant. read more

Vernon Harris helped me today and although it did take some time to get things straightened out, he was patient and courteous the entire time. I saw him work together with his fellow employees as a team and watched him congratulate at least two new drivers who had passed their driving tests. His attitude was extremely positive and he was so friendly! Going to the DMV seriously sucks, but his kindness and patience made the experience all that much better. I was very nervous to come here again after the woman helping me last Thursday was nasty and sent me on my way, confused and unassisted, but this last experience with Vernon showed me that not everyone who works for the DMV is a grouch. read more

One of the biggest issues about this place is the lack of road maintenance. For a place that offers a drivers test the road paint should be clearly visible. When I took my test the road markings were so faded that I could barely see them and it was especially difficult when finishing the test and failing because "you were in the wrong turning lane." When the turning lane was just one big empty space of road. The test is very easy but you're gonna fail for something you have no control over. The instructors are great except this one guy all I can remember about him was that he was tall and had glasses might have been the manager or something he brought a trainee on my test with him so I think he was the manager anyway he was a asshat. read more

This place lives up to the horrendous reputation most DMVs have. If you can find a seat, go play the lottery. They are scarce. I needed to change the address on my DL. I came in on a weekday morning with the paperwork already filled out from their website. Just over two hours later, I finally have my updated DL. The fact that it takes this long to get a simple address change is an embarrassment. read more

quick service! you have to check-in at the front counter and will be issued a number. they have different sections for different services so they move pretty fast so you shouldn't have to wait too long! i went to get a new drives license as my old one expired. i was in and out in less than 5 mins. I'd recommend going in the morning and not on the first or last two days of each month because they're generally more busy then. read more

Lancaster, PA PennDOT is an perfect example of inefficiency, and poor management. It appears they are short staffed and work with antiquated equipment. Why on earth should it take over 5 hours to transfer a license from one state to PA. At 9:15 on a Wednesday morning I checked in with the number 552. The numbers started at 500 and at 9:15 they were serving number 507. At 2:50 p.m. I finally had my license in hand. This was not an isolated experience as others were complaining about spending all day at the DMV. One woman who had waited four hours the day before and had to return the next day and start the waiting process all over again because the DMV machinery had broken down. I'm sure if the politicians had to go through the same process as everyone else they would find a way to make this system work efficiently. Pennsylvania should take a lesson from at how Delaware runs their DMV. This system should be an embarrassment to Pennsylvania government. read more

The reason she failed... she was "palming" the steering wheel?? And didn't put her turn signal on when she parallel parked - she parked perfectly by the way!!! This place sucks! I 've been waiting for a transfer of my licence from one state to PA for 19 days. I called the state and Harrisburg offices and the tranferred was done 2 days after Malvern still don't call me to let me know that the process is completed. The person who I talked to when we iniciated the process was really miserable, which it might be reason. read more

Tester was rude condescending made slurs. My student driver is an excellent driver with an excess of 80+ hours of driving experience. With farm equipment and recreational as well as pick up and auto. I agree with the other reviewers their customer service is in need of a serious talking to! I have been to this location on several occasions only being the convenience of location to where I am and the fact that I don't have to stand in a line that extends outside (Norristown). I have witnessed the most rude and condescending behavior by the same person on a couple of my visits one was towards my child and the other and older gentleman on a different day. Unfortunately not everyone at this center knows the rules. My daughter was adopted from China as an infant. There are thousands of kids just like her who have birth certificates issued in their Chinese birth names. My daughter had plenty of identification bearing the name she's used since she was adopted at 5 months old, a passport, school transcripts, etc. The DMV clerk insisted on putting her Chinese name on her permit and told us we had to go to INS to get it straightened out. We missed a day of work and school to travel to INS only to find out he was wrong. It was a major hassle. When she got her license, I asked another DMV clerk to correct the name. He just looked at our original paperwork and issued her license in her correct name, no problem. read more
