And then the lady I actually paid for the license with was super nice and she said my photo was great and she was just so funny. Simply put no matter how early you get there, they stop calling numbers at 5pm. Which is funny because I noticed Towards the end they moved super slow so they didn't have to get through the remaining 6 people. Government at its best. Inability to plan properly or provide customer service. My favorite is when a police offer working at the DLD saw a highway patrolman and rather than waiting in line ushered him up to the front of the line. This place sucks! read more

Pros: - Making and changing appointments online and skipping the normal line with an appointment is incredibly convenient, thank you!!! Neutral: - With an appointment, the process to get a license took about an hour, depending how long it takes you to look up answers in a book. - On the adult test, you can use the book. This is nice and I appreciate it, but I also feel like I didn't really learn the Utah laws. I went in to renew my license; it took nearly 20 minutes and that includes filling out the form. All other DMVs took at least 35 minutes before. I went in at 2 PM on a Monday. EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!! The clerks were all so nice. I overheard other clerks encouraging people to be more confident in their driving tests. The clerk I had, dealt with a negative person before me and was very professional. She even started my experience with a smile and "how are you?" I am very impressed! A Spencer realized off the top of a hearing the reason for a wrongful impound, yet didn't talk about that topic. Then the DLD could not even grant the right hearing for a refund over a wrongful impound due to the DLD's fax machine not working, as a Susan staff member said was the problem. Then I tried to get a new hearing and they wouldn't do it. This follows another hearing officer incorrectly communicating with Spencer. Not that it matters because male staff told me that I would get the same response (not that I should), but the DLD's Mo Ostler claimed that her boss would be calling and he never did. After she made defenses regarding items in the first paragraph of this complaint, which still doesn't make sense. (Again, I have never been able to have a hearing regarding the actual issue they caused - and because they caused it, is that the problem? Of course, this also means that I have never been refunded as I should have been.) Ostler claimed that she left me a voicemail, but I had no indication of any missed call from her or the DLD, nor any voicemail - and there was room for her to leave a voicemail. Also, a DLD employee only told me about an option to update information on my driver's license where I had to pay, even though I didn't have to pay because I had a more common driver's license. Why didn't the DLD employee mention the option with the most common driver's license that was free? read more

5 stars for a government office? Are you kidding me? I must say that being from California, I am used to the DMV being the most incompetent part of the state government. I would say that overall this was a positive experience with the DMV. Now, that being said, the entire process of getting a Utah driver's license is quite a bit more difficult than I ever found in California. They seem to require a lot more documentation and identification proof before they will issue a driver's license. In a way, I wish my old home state would be the same way, but unfortunately they are intent on seeing that life is easier for illegal aliens then it is for their own tax paying citizens. This review is much less about the process as it is the efficiency of this particular office. Of course, it's in the grounds of the State Fair so undoubtedly it has one of the biggest parking lots in all of Utah. I made an online appointment for my new driver's license, but the two times I was there I noticed and really think that an appointment might not be necessary. The drivers test is given on a computer screen the process could not be more simple. Faster than the People's Republic of California by a long shot. I have to admit that I was quite surprised written drivers test is given open book. I was even more surprised that I actually missed two questions on my test. But I passed, and walked out with my temporary 6 month drivers license in my hand, and was told that it I should have my real license in about 4 to 5 weeks. That might knock them down to 4 stars, because I can't see anything in the age of computers taking four to five weeks to get done, but I guess that's just the way things are. read more

It is a drivers license division. No it's not a fun and exciting place except if it's your first time getting a license and that's probably the only exception. Other than that, what do you expect? You take a number, you have a seat annnnnd,,,,, YOU WAIT!!! You wait and wait till its your turn. And from my own experience, luckily, when it was my turn, the person helping me was nice, friendly and got me out quick. And that's all I can ask for at a DL Division. One complaint though, I wish they would add a vending machine. I mean there is nothing like that at all. No soda machine no snack machine nothing. Just one water fountain. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Because this place is the WORST place on earth. I asked several different people what I needed to do and what I needed to get a permit and license and when I got there the employees told me something completely different. Every person you ask gives a different answer. It seems like they seek out the STUPIDEST people they can possibly find to run the DMV. Train your employees better and get the facts straight! I'm tired of going over and over and waiting EVEN WHEN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT just to have them tell me something different every time!!! This is me ten minutes after leaving the Utah Drivers License Division --fairgrounds. Three weeks ago they told me to my face they couldn't help me until I ordered another social and birth certificate, (mine are currently sitting in a flooded bayou somewhere in Houston). So I did, and this is what I was sent. Today I was told they could not accept a "photo copied" version because it was the law. The LAW sent me this (all crooked and half printed, I crumpled it after they told me it was garbage) and I was GRATEFUL to even get one that fast considering the fact I am certainly NOT ALONE there are THOUSANDS of FLOOD VICTIMS and SO MANY RECORDS LOST, and I am lucky to have my losses only be material. Nonetheless, UTAH DLD said they couldn't accept it as a form of identification. Yesterday was my birthday, and I asked them for one bit of good news, sympathy, something. So now, I would like to publicly ask UTAH and the UTAH Drivers License Division, WHY DO YOU HATE FLOOD VICTIMS? I am being punished for the systems being literally flooded and overloaded because I apparently I HAVE NOT SUFFERED ENOUGH. Every attempt I have made to start my life over and make roots has been thwarted, I can't open a bank account, I can't get an ID card, and apparently the only way I get heard or treated like a human being is when I PUBLICLY CALL THEM OUT. It took 3 months and a negative review to even be able to set up services here so that I can receive much needed post trauma therapy and help. I went in today around 2 pm and there wasn't too bad of a crowd of a Wednesday afternoon. There weren't that many people there but a decent amount. Getting checked in was painless and quick. I had covered all of my bases by filling out the application online for a replacement licence. The front desk lady was super nice and made me feel totally ready with all my documents in order. I walited maybe 10 minutes and was called up to the window. The two ladies there (one was a trainee) were also super nice and helpful. As someone who e-bills all of my bills I didn't have hard copy mail to prove where I live. (Online it says you can only bring in one online printed bill.) I went in with my proof of health insurance letter that had my address on it and she accepted it! She understood the rule is a little outdated for today's day and age and going green is a perk for everyone. Overall I was in and out in less than 30 mins and I have a new drivers licence! read more

Only talk to Tricia!!! I had my license stolen, and went to get a new one. But I was going to move in a couple weeks, so Tricia advised that I wait so I didn't have to pay once for the new license and another time for the address change on it (I didn't know which exact apartment I was going to be in, yet). So I came back a couple weeks later and the girl at the front desk gave me a hard time because I didn't have any physical mail, although I do all my billing online so I will never have physical mail. I went to the DMV's website, which lets you change your address without mail, for some reason, and persuaded the front desk girl to let me see if it would update their records in real time so that I could get my updated and real drivers license, as I have been using a temporary one since my first visit. She reluctantly gave me a number and said to wait, but luckily, lo and behold, I got Tricia again who waited patiently while their servers updated with my new address. Not only did she remember me and that I was moving, she remembered my whole situation, went back and found my paperwork, and got me in and out of there in about two minutes no problems, only smiles. I generally hate going to the DMV, but if I get to work with people like Tricia, I can honestly say it was an enjoyable experience and it was fun talking to her for those few minutes. Had a crappy workday before, and I'm on my way back to work now, but I can honestly say that was an enjoyable trip to the DMV. read more
