Went to Franks 24 years ago for a drive shaft cut and balance, also some leaf spring perches welded to a 14 bolt axle. Frank did this work going strictly on my measurements without the Blazer present. He did fantastic, precision work. The axle and driveling matched up perfectly. Took my driveshaft to be balanced and they told me it needed new joints. Payed to change them and first run after 5 min of driving, the middle joint cracked. Took it back and they changed it. Second test run, after driving for 5 blocks it cracks again and i see the joint and its trash material. I do not recommend this shop, if you can call it a shop because they dont give you receipt of the work and they wont return your money. read more

Frank is quite the character, but he knows his stuff inside and out. I had a rear drive shaft that was making noise on my jeep. He took a look at my driveshaft and my trail spare. He showed me what was wrong with the primary. I'm told that I could probably just use my spare and walk away or he could fix the original. Then after I decided to get the primary fixed, he tells me to follow his technician into the bowels of his shop (it's one hell of a shop, btw,) and the tech proceeds to show me a series of tricks to use so I could do the work myself the next time around. Driveshafts by Frank Wallace saved my life. I have been dealing with a nagging driveline vibration on my 1966 Fairlane for about the last year that I could not figure out for the life of me. I had another driveline shop "balance" and "straighten" my driveshaft twice, so I eliminated that as a possibility and spent the next year throwing parts at the car trying to figure out where this vibration was coming from. Bill took over for his father and does great work. He helped me out modifying and rebuilding a set of driveshaft for my '65 Wagoneer after i did a transmission swap. i reviewed this business back in 2013 and yelp says that my review is not recommended. Might be the fact that i used some curse words in it. OK so Frank Wallace and his people really do know driveshafts well, They quite possibly might be the very best in the bay area as far as their work is concerned, and i am an auto mechanic and i know what im talking about. My one star rating is for the price gouging and bait and switch type of thing they did to me. Yes, the work is excellent, and i dont mind paying a fair price for good work but they quoted me 130 to shorten and rebalance my driveshaft. When i returned now all of a sudden it was 250 dolllars. I asked why. Frank told me " we did not shorten your original shaft, we had a used shaft that was the length that you requested, so we used that shaft. Now this used shaft was bent (!) and unbalanced(!) and had bad u joints." Then frank explained to me that he had to balance the p.o.s. used shaft (he really said that!) straighten it and replace both u joints. Now my problem was that they only used a different shaft so they would not have to cut mine and re weld it. It was convenient for them, my original shaft had 10 miles on the u joints, they were perfect. Had he just did what i asked of him, i would have payed 130 dollars but for their convenience of not shortening and welding on my original driveshaft, they had to repair this crappy shaft they had lying around which i paid 80 dollars for. Plus 2 new u joints and a balance and straighten out of it and 130 dollars became 250. And they had the balls to tell me that my original shaft was gone. Im certain that it will be sold to someone else, they have hundreds of old used driveshafts there, where do you think they come from? My original shaft was there somewhere but they said it was gone. I wish i would have pushed harder for my original shaft to be returned and just went elsewhere. read more

They repaired my driveshaft after a prior shop that used to be in Concord but is now in Pittsburg didn't tighten the carrier bearing nut properly. It backed off and destroyed the bearing AND the shaft. Quick turn around and the car goes down the road as it should. Very knowledge guys. Lots of parts for older cars if you have something damaged. read more

I brought a shaft to dbfw to be shortened and rebalanced, it was for an old 2wd blazer. No big deal, and i was quoted 130 which seems reasonable. When the shaft was finally done, i was hit with a bill far greater than the 130 i was quoted, here's how frank himself explained it . Instead of shortening my shaft that i brought to them, they pulled a used shaft out of their shop which was already the legnth i needed, that was 80 dollars. His used piece of shit shaft (those were HIS WORDS!) was bent and had bad u joints both front and rear, so he charged me to straighten and balance this used shaft, charged me to install new u joints, and kept my original shaft to sell to some other customer in the future. Heres why i feel he was wrong- #1 my original shaft had new u joints already, they may have had ten miles if that on them. He decided NOT to shorten MY ORIGINAL SHAFT, but substitute a used shaft , thats fine, but it was done for HIS CONVENIENCE so he would not need to cut my shaft. He sells me a shitty bent shaft balances and straightens it, and new u joints, NONE OF WHUICH MY ORIGINAL SHAFT NEEDED. I was ripped off by this guy and ended up paying 250 dollars and he still kept my old shaft which he will sell to another person for even more profit.. Yes, the work they do really is good, but watch out for shenanigans like this with the price going up thru the roof. I could have bought a custom driveshaft made of NEW tubing and both ends, with LIFETIME u joints , guaranteed never to break, for LIFE for this price from Denny's driveshafts, i know because i bought one from Dennys. Watch out for DBFW, he will clean you out if you let him. read more
