I have been going to this business for tire repair, replacement, and alignment for at least 20 years. It used to be called Commercial Tire. They have installed five sets of new tires on my current vehicle. Not a fancy place, but it has a waiting room and the employees are friendly. The prices seem to be competitive with other businesses. There was a little confusion today because I was quoted a lower price than turned out to be the actual price, but Rick gave me a discount off the actual price in an effort to make it right. I very much appreciate the time that Marv spent with me on the phone a few days ago, discussing the merits of different brands/models/prices of tires before I made my decision. Originally I had taken my VW Golf R to the VW dealership for new brake pads where the service rep quoted me $1400 and I about died. I reached out to Rolling Stock and spoke to Rick. He was extremely personable, informative, and understanding. He provided a quote right on the spot that was nearly $800 less. They ended up replacing my break pads and 3 tires for roughly $200 more than my original quote from the VW dealership. I was able to drop off and pick up my car within 3 hours. We've been coming to Rolling stock for years. We've had both our family Car and both of my parents cars here for everything from new tires to brakes and rotors. They always out price the competition, the turnaround on service is fantastic, the communication is great., And there are really decent options for hanging out if you wanna hang out of the area while the repairs are getting done like the old clam house. However, most of the time I just have someone pick me up if it's gonna be a longer service and come back when it's done. Managers here are great, staff here are great, and even with the new business daddy, they are still up to the same high level of service and support and also it seems faster turnaround times on ordering specific tires that are not usually held in stock. read more

I had a really positive experience with this shop yesterday. I had a damaged run flat tire on a Saturday, called several shops trying to locate a replacement tire and Rolling Stock was the only one that had one in stock. They were able to get the tire replaced in about an hour. Prices were comparable to what I was getting from other shops including costco's website. Everyone working there seemed helpful and nice. Marvin at the desk was especially awesome- it felt like he took his time to make sure that I was getting a tire that best matched the rest on the car. I know it's not ideal to just get a single tire, but those run flats are expensive. I really appreciate that there was no upselling, just trying to help me get what I needed to be on my way. Rolling Stock was once a true San Francisco institution -- family-run, fast, honest, and built on relationships. I started as a walk-in customer, later became a business client, and even watched their journey from the South Van Ness shop with all the hubcaps on the wall, to the 16th Street location after the fire. When the old "Commercial Tire" down the block was failing miserably, I told my friend Adam he should buy it -- and he did. Within weeks, the place was transformed. The energy, the flow, the dedication -- everything clicked again. But today, under new ownership, it's unrecognizable. I stopped in for a simple tire patch before a vehicle shipment -- something that used to take no more than an hour or two. Instead, I was told it couldn't be done until late afternoon. No effort to accommodate, no familiarity, no drive. The once-bustling shop now felt quiet and lifeless. Sadly, this marks the end of a 30-year relationship. Rolling Stock was sold to a corporate group more focused on expansion than customers. Was having severe difficulty with my Fernadette 2014 Ford fusion that had already been serviced twice at another shop (please see my review of Firestone at 1501 Mission St. SF CA For that miserable story). As a building inspector, been into Rolling stock multiple times noticing organization, safety regulations in place, and a staff that never stops moving. My intuitions were correct cause these folks are legit real ones. Whilst ya stand in line or on hold, note the other real ones around ya at Rolling Stock. Genuine, badassess who know where to take their Rolling works of mechanical art. They investigated the issues with my electrical system and failing brakes. Found a severe infestation of mice that has been going on for quite a while. How's the mechanics at Firestone missed or ignored this evidence is incredible. Rolling Stock kept my car for a week to try every available method of saving the vehicle. Unfortunately, the car is a total loss. Firestone charged us over $4000+ for service that was dangerously faulty. Rolling Stock charged less than $300 and had the car for over a week That's integrity folks. This is why we choose small businesses rather than corporations with armies of lawyer to cover up cheap labor practices. Thank you you too, Rick (manager), Ivan (mechanic), Mario & Jaime (intake) for their efforts, honesty, and attention to detail. Highly recommend this crew work on your vehicles. Be patient please. When WheelWorx said they couldn't fix the problem, they recommended me to Rolling Stock. Turns out WheelWorx misdiagnosed the problem, which RS found out pretty quickly. Probably a good thing looking back on it. Mario was great, was my single PoC through the whole process, explained everything, answered all my questions, gave his best recommendations-- including advising not to do certain work now because it saves me money.
