Our son has been building a drum kit. He wanted some mid-level equipment to replace his entry-level set. Today he wanted to get a better Hi-Hat set. His ultimate goal was to get the Zildjian New Beats Carter Beauford rocks. Little did he know that when he walked into this shop, they would have not only 1, but 2 used sets available! He was very pleased to be able to trade some unneeded cymbals and hardware towards the purchase. The shop is jam packed with guitars, drums, and equipment. We found out this store has been here 60 years, with the second generation of the same family owning it. I learned to drum from my dad on his kit and I was finally ready to acquire my own. I was suggested by my extended family who have bought many many kits from Tim to check out his store. Tim was a data base of information and extremely helpful for me who had little knowledge of brand and quality for an affordable yet high quality kit. I was sold on a 5pc pdp concept. Along the way he let me know ways I could upgrade the kit to really make this thing sound good. I sprung for zidjian a custom and have never been so happy about springing for extra money then right there fabulous kit. Since then I go to his store 2 times a month roughly to build onto my setup and each time Tim is very helpful and patient with me as I ask him questions. I'm a big fan of visiting local guitar shops when I'm out of town. This one was recompense by a friend of mine that lives in Golden. The pace is pretty cool with a lot of guitars packed in. They carry G&L and have a nice assortment of them too! The amp selection was lacking in my tastes; limited tube driven amps in here while inward in there.The folks in here were friendly and were happy to let me test play a G&L s-500. These guys were absolutely fantastic to deal with. I was looking for a very specific bass, and these guys were the only ones within shipping distance that had one (two actually) and they were really easy to work with. I just called them up, spoke with Jason, and he had a great no-nonsense way of answering all my questions and getting the purchase all wrapped up and good to go. Huge difference from someplace like guitar center, where everyone you talk to there is just desperate to sell something to you and could really care less about what you're actually getting. Drum City is very serious about every instrument going out the door in playing condition, fully setup, stringed how you want it, the whole 9 yards. I got my bass in San Diego, CA via fedex in a few days, packed very well, and it played great right out of the box, no setup necessary. Absolutely brilliant. Drum City-Guitar land is one of those family run organizations tucked away in a small corner of Arvada. The size of the store belies its huge selection of percussion and stringed instruments. Literally, every nook and cranny of this store is crammed with unique and one of a kind instruments. The store is split up into two sections, percussion and guitar. Not being a drummer, I can't comment on the skins selection except to say that it seems to be dominating the store's selection in recent years. But, if you're a 35+ yr old guitarist looking to resurrect the glory of your high school career, this is the place to shop. DCGL has a great selection of Charvel, ESP & Jackson custom guitars complete with all the paint schemes that would have had you drooling 20 yrs ago. Want the guitar that Warren DeMartini played in Ratt's "Round and Round" video? They have it... or one that looks just like it. Staff here is friendly and knowledgeable, always offering their assistance in pulling an axe of the wall, floor or ceiling (literally speaking) for you to test drive. read more

When I am looking for gear for me or for friends, this is the first place I go. I have 6 or more guitars and basses from Drum City Guitar Land. I have many friend that have bought Drums, Guitars, and Basses of the years for they as well. They have an excellent selection of entry level to custom shop instruments, focusing more on mid to high end. They often have one of a kind, prototypes, and hard to find models. They also beat the larger national retailers in both price and selection and still have small shop service. They keep their website up to date and are good at answering questions via e-mail. I am sure most of their sales are over the web, but I always go into the store as they are local. The staff is always friendly and the owners are almost always there. They setup every guitar the way you want it before you leave. The only complaints are: 1) they are not open very late. 2) The store is so packed with Guitar, and Basses it is hard to walk through. 3) They do not do repairs or sell parts. I highly recommend them and I am sure I will be back the next time I need a guitar. read more

I took my nephew to Drum City to pick up some sticks, and the guy that helped us, (the owner, if I had to guess), was super helpful. The drum sticks are in a little room off the main area, so we had to ask where they were. The fella was super helpful, explaining all of the price ranges and pointing out a few with cool features to my little drummer boy, and even encouraged him to test them out on a nearby drum set. On our way out, I mentioned I would be back to pick up more sticks to mail back to Michigan for the nephew, and he said they could even ship directly from the store for me.
