Wow, just wow..... I never expected to walk into a bar and find an attentive bartender like the one that I had and even came by the table at least five or six times. Usually you have to go to the counter but this lady was on top of things. This works for it to visit on December 15. 2024 I was looking for the Washington Redskins game and surely enough it was on the television and she pointed to the back where there was a table by itself with the Redskins plan so we sat there looked through the menu. I noticed I had crawfish but it's december, who has crawfish in december? I asked her about it and she said that because of the abnormal season last year that they are large this year and that they probably have about 5 lb left. I ordered 2 lbs because of the price you told me was $8! Now crawfish these times are getting ridiculous outside of Houston which I noticed are like 9 10 $12, it's okay I don't need crawfish that bad I'll just wait till I get back home. They came out and they were a good medium spicy. Definitely wanted more but had to save myself for dinner later. Had the whiskey and Sprite and I was thinking if it's under $6 it's recently priced a bar and when the tab came to find out it was only $4! Definitely very reasonable prices here and service. This place will probably fit about a hundred people and it seems like the patrons seem to mind their own business and don't start routiness as you might find in some other places. Although the restaurant was half occupied, most of the bar was taken. I was fortunate to find a seat by the far end... with the taps in clear view. There was a standalone aromatic humidifier which started blowing in my direction. Being the first Sunday of the new year, I was equally surprised and disappointed the only Sam Adams was the Oktoberfest. This time of year, I expected to see the Winter Lager. Unfortunately, the keg had run out. As a second choice, I went for the Yuengling Lager. Something seemed wrong when .the glass was filling up with foam. Eventually, the bartender was able to get the glass properly filled. I went for the classic cheeseburger with sweet potato fries. Given the choice of mayonnaise or mustard on the burger, I went with the latter. Half way through, the bottom bun started to tear. Fortunately, it had held by the time I finished the burger. We wound up here because there's not too many late night open options these days. Lots of beers available. The bacon thingies are really good - kind of like a morph between a jalapeño popper and a wing. The nachos need more cheese but we're good aside from that. Service was good and friendly. The Donkey is always comfortable and has good food. The crawfish were cooked well, very tasty. The price was good at $7.99 per pound but the corn and potatoes are additional as well as butter. We came for lunch for the first time. This is a neighborhood pub with large selection of craft beers (30+) but poor service with bar grade food. The popularity is mainly for the alcohol and not the food. We got food that was old (chicken and pulled pork tacos), not fresh. Charro beans (4 oz only, before it was 8 oz) were spicy warm so one good thing with the thin chips. Service was not better. We waited 10 minutes at the table (only one other table of six was occupied and two people came in after us). Server went to the other arriving party before coming to us. We were given an old menu with old prices and server never mentioned the price change. Place was dark, dirty, and had a few tables for groups. There were two pool tables where you had to pay to play and several TV monitors with different sports channels on. There are better places to go for a nice lunch. read more

This Review is mixed. Food. Good Beer. Meh. Seemed like carbonation was off. I had a stout, bock and a helles. Service. Good Ambiance. Super loud. I've been to a couple drunken donkey locations and had a good time. But that was years and years ago. I feel like the vibe has changed. If you're really into sports this place has tons of TVs and Plays one of them on max volume. Sports people really seemed like they were having a great time and were cheering! I was wanting to hang out with friends from another state that came to visit and we could hardly hear each other. So. If you're into sports this might be a great place to watch but to socialize you might want to find a more mellow place. read more

This place has awesome food. We went 3 weekends in a row and every time the food was great . The nachos, donkey balls are exceptional . No pictures of those. The Catfish is more like Chicken strips, but taste great. Their fries are amazing and the grill cheese was also fantastic . I added egg and bacon to mine. We probably won't go back because the last time we went one of the people with us was really drunk, we weren't. They cut us off, mainly my wife and the really drunk one. I told the manager i was driving, but that didn't matter. After we convinced him that my wife wasn't drunk he agreed to make her another drink. But, our friend called him an ass hole so, he made us leave. But my wife should not have been cut off. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. I called to order take out which has never been an issue considering I get out of work late and am always able to order take out at least 30 minutes before closing. I called tonight and tried to order takeout and whoever was on the phone said they close at 1:30 when I called at 1:23. I tried to order still considering the time difference and was still denied service due to them "being closed". They said they had no cooks in the building. As a service industry worker that's likely unacceptable. I was going to show my service industry friends the food I love. Thank you for being so inconsistent. read more

Kat and Zan are incredible - they truly made the experience unforgettable. A local recommended closing your eyes and picking anything off the menu, and he wasn't wrong. The food was fantastic! The vibe was just as good, with games on all the TVs and great music in the background. read more

If you ever want to know how the Tom Hanks character in Castaway felt on his deserted island, try sitting on the patio of the Drunken Donkey some afternoon. Whenever my vegetarian wife is away I go there for a meaty sandwich but because I prefer al fresco dinning I often leave feeling as though people think I have a contagious disease. The food at the Donkey is outstanding. The portions are large and it usually comes out piping hot. Better still, they continue to sell beers like IPAs such as Mosaic by the pint. I am tired of going to bars and tap rooms and ordering my favorite IPAs only to find they are now served in shot glasses. Not at the Donkey - order a beer and get a beer. I also ordered a Rubin sandwich and it was wonderful and so large they probably had to slaughter a second cow to get all that meat. Still, there is no reason someone sitting on the patio should have to go inside to order. Are the wait staff afraid of getting a tan? On today's visit there were four old guys sitting at the bar and a couple of grandparents entertaining two youngsters inside. Eight people but the server could not be bothered to go outside to take my order. All I know is that on each of the last three times I have visited I had to go inside to order and when the sever finally did venture outside it was only about every 20 minutes or so. Still, I'll be back and recommend you go there too - but you might want to eat inside. read more

Time for a new review of Drunken Donkey. This is my 2nd visit since their Bar Rescue with Jon Tafer. I have to say, I was confused by their appearance on that show. They have big crowds, the place seems clean and the food was consistently good. But apparently, they needed some help so the menu was adjusted and the name was changed. After a few months, they're the Drunken Donkey again. The menu has generally reverted. The Bacon Thingies are still amazing. I will probably go back. BUT We were there to commemorate a friend, and our whole table got burgers. They were frozen, and pre-formed. That's unforgivable in this part of Texas. We had 4 very different burgers and a kid's cheeseburger. The Kids cheeseburger was absolutely the best burger of the day. C'mon Drunken Donkey! You have a good vibe although I try to skip the really rowdy times (that's not my scene). But you can't live on Bacon Thingies alone! read more

This place was apparently on the show Bar Rescue and was previously the Drunken Donkey. From what I know of this show, they renovate the decor quickly and cheaply. The "wooden" walls and messy paint job didn't do this dark space any favors. There's nothing wrong with a dark bar but when it's trying to be a chic restaurant, it just doesn't work. Now, I ordered the wings and it was nothing to write home about. Perhaps other things on the menu would have been more to my liking. Lastly, the music consisted of outdated pop music and did not fit the overall vibe of the place. Most people probably wouldn't notice but it honestly annoyed me more than it should have. I'm giving this place 3 stars because it has potential if they change the music, menu and lighting. read more

I find that the waiters are young and not very attentive sometimes when it comes to the customers. I've sat for almost 20 minutes before I got someone to acknowledge that I was there. Another time I went in , sat there for about 15 minutes. I walked out because again no one acknowledged me. Now I go to guitars and growlers. read more

This place is awful. Service is always lacking. Every time we order crawfish, they are light on the weight. Tonight, I ordered 4 lbs and it was less than 3 lbs. When I called it to their attention they said the kitchen was confused. Ordered Crab Balls and after 30 minutes, they said they were not available. I scoured Yelp for sports bars open late for March Madness basketball watching yesterday and couldn't find one that looked appealing. My friend suggested the Drunken Donkey because we have had such great experiences here before. I wasn't sure about the basketball watching because DD doesn't show up when searching sports bars. Nevertheless, we visited the Drunken Donkey last night to watch the Elite 8 games. They have multiple screens, great seating arrangements, and wonderful service! We had a blast! Lots of local craft beers. Full bar. Really good looking and clean place. Bathrooms are always nice. In addition to great food and beer, they have lots of Golden T going on as well as board games that you can play with your friends or family while you wait for your food or just have a drink. I've visited Drunken Donkey for many years now and it seems like it's going downhill. While drinks are decent, the service is terrible. Having to wait for 20 minutes then going to the bar and ask for help when it's not that busy, isn't acceptable. Waitresses looking annoyed when ordering, isn't acceptable. Oh Donkey, what happened? It's been a minute since we've been here so we were looking forward to some good food today. We ordered the Reuben and I have no idea what kind of meat that was supposed to be, but it was rubbery, tasteless, and tough. Should have sent it back. The waitress suggested a sauce for dipping fries besides ketchup so we said, ok. Surprise, upcharge for a couple tablespoons of something we didn't end up eating. Beer selection is good but would be nice if it was actually cold. Not sure what happened there. The whole inside is so rundown. It's in a dicey area in Lewisville and looks rundown outside as well. "Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me." The first time I came here the vibe was really nice. I stopped in after work to grab a drink and something to eat. I ordered the chicken sandwich and the bread was soggy and so were the fries. I did, however, like the vibe so I thought I would give it another shot. The second time around me and my girl came in both ordered some burgers. The fries again were soggy and she unfortunately found hair in her sandwich. The manager did try his best at service recovery which I appreciated by comping her meal and giving us a voucher for next time. However, I don't think that we will be back. If you're going to come here I would only recommend coming for the beer as they do you have a nice selection and pretty neat ambience. Do not order the food though. read more

I have been coming here since the beginning, with all the changes, layouts and name changes. I walk to this bar (i live 3 blocks away) and enjoy the craft beer selections, food and staff. I wish they had more beers like they had before. I always enjoyed trying different beers when I would come, especially the Belgian triplets and quads. Wings are solid and the nachos are great to share. Desserts need work and burger could be better. Staff are great and happy with the changes overall. read more

Found out that they had crawfish had to try them I decided to give them a taste today and the size of the crawfish and the seasoning was on point but they came out like cold cuts like Bologna sandwiches but I eat them because I was hungry wasn't going to wait for another order will give them another try next time at least my waitress was friendly read more

Overall 2.5 to 3 stars. Visited on a Friday night. The beer selection has been reduced, and the interior has changed. The renovation is a marginal improvement, but there appears to be less seating, which almost resulted in leaving before ordering. Better atmosphere in the previous 'version'... it possessed a 'local' feel. The beer selection is below similar establishments in the area. Compared to Drunken Donkey is was disappointing. We didn't review food menu. The previous version had its identity which I used to visit occasionally... As for this renovated version, I m less enthusiastic. read more

Greatly disappointed in the quality reduction. Had the best light and fluffy Bavarian pretzel that's best paired with extra queso. The overcooked, dinky, hard piece of shoe leather I received with obviously old and thick, chunky queso is not worth the $20 you're charged. The bacon thingies were dinky, too, and didn't even have the buffalo sauce smothered all over. Either the server was targeting me, incompetent or she doesn't care about the quality going out. I L O V E the bartenders here. They are wonderful, kind, educated, and just plain fantastic. I've even caught swim meets here on the tv once or twice (I was a swimmer) so major brownie points. Cuban is my fav sandwich but the Asian wings are also drool worthy. The gold wings are also amazing but are too spicy for me (I'm a spicy wimp). Also, they have the BEST pickle juice for their pickle backs. read more
