My friends and I came by after work for a quick book club meeting and Ethel Janes delivered all the vibes! The lighting was immaculate and cozy. We loved the dark color palette and how warm it made the setting feel. It's not a typical sit down restaurant and more of like a cafe - you order at the cashier and the person behind the counter will deliver once the food is ready. Our cashier/server was super sweet, kind and helpful. She moved with urgency and made sure we were well accommodated without having to ask for extra water or napkins. I ordered the broccoli cheese soup and chicken salad on focaccia - incredible! You can't go wrong with a broccoli cheddar and I thought it was great portioning. Chicken salad was great, nothing to complain about there. The focaccia had wonderful texture but the rosemary (?) stuck out a lot and didn't adhear well to the bread so I had to spit some pieces out. All in all though, still decent food for the price. Bathrooms are 1 room and kept super clean. Parking is VERY minimal so you might need to park on the street - like I wanna say 5 to 6 spots, 1 handicap.

This place is so cute! They have a good variety of sandwiches, soup and salads to try. They don't have gluten-free bread, but they do have gluten-free crackers for the dip spread, which is really nice. I got the broccoli salad without the pasta and it did not disappoint. My friends enjoyed their chicken salad sandwich and cookie as well. The customer service was great and very informative. There are books all over the coffee shop in one area and you can read them while you eat a drink and you can buy any book for $5. Except it's almost like a borrowing system. You can bring that same book back and return the book for a credit that you can use at the coffee shop for food and drinks. And it's nice because they don't only have coffee, they have a full cocktail menu as well. Bendt Distilling Co which is owned by the same people is within walking distance if you want to take a tour. I'll have to come back when my January ealth challenge end so I can try the dessert and the cocktails and update my review.

My wife and I were in town for a birthday tour of BENDT Distillery and while on the tour our guide mentioned Ethel James was now open. We decided to walk over and try it out and it didn't disappoint. We both ordered a sandwich and drink and it was a great afternoon. The vibe is more a library/cafe feel but if you're looking for a good bite to eat they also have great food. The people that work there are amazing and make sure you take a piece of the whiskey cake home with you. This is a great place to spend the afternoon for lunch and finish a book while you're there.

What a wonderful new spot!! I've been waiting for quite some time for this place to open, and it did NOT disappoint. Bendt Distillery, a short walk from here, did some rearranging a while back and I lost one of my favorite hangouts because they needed room for more barrels. The silver lining? A great new hangout was in the works! Ethel Jane's is a cozy, intimate spot with wonderful food (some of which used to be served at Bendt), amazing cocktails (same comment), and top notch Texas whiskey and other spirits (same comment!). Some of my favorite Bendt staff are thankfully still around, so service remains oh-so-nice. The vision for the place includes a back patio / backyard area, too, but that will wait until more consistent nice weather to be built out. The front patio area will also be expanded eventually. For now, I love how intimate it is. Check out the library while you're there! And get some wonderful soup this winter - oh my gosh did that hit the spot with some of their incredible focaccia bread. Everything is made in house, and WOW is it good. And grab some whiskey bottles while you're there, too! Hurry up and check out this new gem before everyone knows about it and it's always packed. Enjoy!

This is a cozy little place with a good menu and relaxed atmosphere. The walls are lined with bookshelves that guests are free to read. The menu is relatively simple, featuring sandwiches and snacks made with delicious homemade bread. I had the prosciutto and brie on Foccacia, and the bread stole the show. The cocktail menu is supplied with alcohol from BENDT distillery just down the block, and the cocktails are delicious! If you have room for dessert, the moist, flavorful whiskey cake is a sweet finisher. I'm planning on returning!

If you haven't been to or heard of a little place called Ethel Janes in old town let me tell you that you are missing out. It's a little tucked away cafe and bar that brings you a little cozy vibe with food you didn't know you needed until you had it. Soups, sandwiches, pastries! Get the purple cookie! Go by yourself or with a friend or two. Just go! Pick a book to read or check out. Yes, check out!

Our daughter LOVED the little turf area and so did we. Just a small play area for her to run around but we could still contain her. They have the classic Denton food trucks, Feta's Greek (Greek fries are a go to), Tomato pizza, and the pickled carrot. The staff is amazing, as expected! The owner was out cleaning tables and delivering orders himself. They have the cocktail bar and the craft beer house so it's the Denton bars all combined. We were engaged at Eastside, my bridal shower was at Miss Angeline's, and now we are adding this to the list of our favorites. Definitely a great addition to the Lewisville area!

Ordered a grilled cheese/brisket sandwich, fries and a small draft Michelob Ultra. Bartender said it'd be 10 minutes, took 20. 16 bucks for the sandwich and fries and 11 bucks for the small dixie cup of beer. Brisket tasted like Sam's Club pre cooked brisket. Slice of fake cheese and oil soaked bread. Took 2 bites and covered it up like it was dead. It was gross. Fries were cold. Beer was cold but only got four drinks out of the cup! Paid 27 bucks for a sandwich and small drat beer. I don't mind paying for quality food and service. Bartenders were all huddled together talking about who knows what. Not attentive. I refuse to pay 11 bucks for a small cup of draft beer. But I did, I drank it. Place was cool looking. Must have spent a fortune on the building out and left no budget for quality food. I see these new places open up and not last too long. In today's current situation, be fair. Build your customer base. I can't see this place lasting much longer.I won't be back and I encourage you to ask what the beverages cost before you order at this place. Beware.

The Library which is set away from the open lounge area and quieter or the lounge area with the bar. They would not let us pick our spot despite seating being available. We opted for the lounge area as the seat offered to us there was better to our preference. The tables are packed quiet tightly which i dont like personally but i get it. That tidbit aside it is definitely a cool environment. Service was really nice and the food we ordered was great. I presume it's the same menu as J Theodore so I'm going to have to try that now for a more restaurant style meal. This is a cool place to hang out and bring friends imo. Since we don't really drink we'll probably end up at the restaurant next time as it's not easy to eat on tiny tables. It's a bar/lounge after all.
