I was pleasantly surprised to see Dry Dock back open again, and love the new look. My friends and I used to come here every year for our reunion. My wife and I came here for lunch while vacationing in the area. The bar tender was very cordial and never let us want anything. We had oysters (which were pretty awesome) and Caesar salads. Lovely service and a great spot. Margarita was served in 8oz plastic Dixie cups! Shameful. We don't want your plastic crap in our Maine landfills, and I want a legit margarita when I spend that kind of money. Blackened fish sandwich was a piece of haddock with lettuce. No tomato, no onion, and no pickles. This sad sandwich included lousy pasty white shoe string french fries. What a huge disappointment. We had a delicious smoked fish dip appetizer. The ceviche and cod cheeks were also very tasty appetizers albeit incy wincy tiny portions. This is a premier location on a wharf with water views so they need to do much better. You're paying for the patio. The only thing good were the oysters, because they only needed to open them. And they were placed on the table without being identified as to locale. So....this is a 2-star review done with respect. Why? To beg improvement. So, the good: This landmark space has been preserved, albeit fully 'Portland Gentrified'. The other: If you're going to be upscale, and talk the talk....then walk the walk. You won't lower yourself to serve standard call liquors like Makers Mark or Absolut? Ok, but then why is there a chemical bomb bright red fake cherry in my drink? Why collect the fries McDonald's is throwing out & put them on my plate? You take a highly reputable seafood organization (Luke's) and bring in a reputable chef, add an iconic address, dress it up, reinvent it....should be spectacular.... Instead you strip most of the character, make it a processed hospitality experience, and completely underwhelm the menu? Went from so excited to so disappointed. Am I writing them off? No. Do I believe in the group behind this? Yes. My point? Be Better....what I saw was looks more like cheap commercialism. This will be highly successful commercially, but its current form is tourist trap mediocrity. In short, I'd accept the robotic, unformed efforts of the server & I'd accept the sterilized version of this grand space....if you blew my socks off with the food. Instead they roll out the hype and deliver a generic menu that can't hold up to its own breading? Was excited to go to Dry Dock based on the reopening and very good reviews. Love the indoor dining areas! It was a gorgeous day so we sat outside where there was a nice water view and the server was very sweet and prompt. My cousin ordered a glass of wine and they were kind enough to let her sample two white wines since they only have Pinot Grigio by the bottle and that's her favorite. She picked one of them and when our drinks came out her wine was in an 8oz plastic cup - which we understand because it was outdoors - BUT the cup wasn't quite a third full and cost $12. We were told that the pour was 5 1/2 ounces. It was 4oz, if that much. (The T-shirt motto is "Pouring Strong"?!?) We weren't looking for extra, just a reasonably sized glass of wine. My cousin and her daughter were happy with their Fish and Chips and Haddock sandwich. I ordered a caesar salad and asked if I could have the shrimp blackened but that wasn't possible, they could only make it with shrimp cocktail. I called the next day (after tearing my house apart) and spoke with the opening manager. The beverage program is well done for a oysters house. All well chosen wine beer and liquor. My wife loves Cava which they had and myself am beer and tequila. All satisfied. I love going to Portland once or twice a year and this time was a spontaneous trip so my boyfriend and I didn't have anywhere for a dinner reservation. I'm so glad we didn't at our usual spots because we walked around and ended up at Dry Dock. We got seated by the window and had a great night view of the water and some of the other restaurants. My boyfriend got one of the cocktails served in a fish which was such a fun surprise! I got 3 oysters for myself and they were easily some of the freshest I've ever had. We split the mussels, an amazing choice. That broth would've been eaten by me as a soup it was so good. My boyfriend got the steak frites, perfectly cooked with fries and a side arugula salad along with an aioli. He was obsessed! I ended with the tuna crudo and it was so fresh and delicious. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable, along with all the other staff. I'm so glad we ended up here as we will be back for more the next time we come to Portland for sure. 10/10!! read more

We went there on Tuesday and must say we were very impressed. They have done a great job redecorating. They have added on to both decks. The dining areas are large and the bars are spread out. Our server was amazing and attentive! however the food was not great. The broiled haddock was flooded in cooking oil and was very bland. The cheeseburger did not come with cheese and when asked for cheese, a separate plate with 2 squares of cheese was brought out. The lighting in the front entryway was very dim to where people were looking at the menus with lights from their phones. I was quite disappointed overall with the food. read more

We tried the Dry Dock in Portland today, their Grand Opening day. The wait staff was excellent! The atmosphere was spacious, inviting and we didn't feel crowded at all despite the restaurant being close to full capacity. Seating on the first floor (cocktails only deck) was limited, but it didn't take long for a table to open up. Our dining table on the second floor deck was basically a cut and paste copy of the lower deck. Not criticizing but something a little more comfortable would' been a nice touch. We felt the menu was a bit limited, but willing to give them a pass considering they just opened. Hopefully they will expand their offerings to include more traditional New England coastal dishes. Despite this minor irritation, the meals we chose were delicious. It's obvious the proprietor is not new to the restaurant business as they've employed quality kitchen staff who take pride in the food they serve. overall it was a very nice, affordable experience. I loved the beautiful upstairs eating area. Such beautiful windows and you felt like you were eating in some beautiful, historic building, which you were! I will say don't let them seat you upstairs if you have anyone in your party that has difficulty going up and down the stairs because it's a long flight up from the first floor, but worth it. Waitstaff were very nice and friendly and fun, and I don't know if it was the owner or manager who came by a couple of times, but very nice too. Several of us got the baked haddock with the ritz cracker topping and it was delicious. We also got a crackers with cream cheese and red pepper jelly appetizer and I thought that it was fun that they had that because it's something you would get or bring to a gathering with friends and family. We sat at a long communal table, had a great time and would definitely return the next time we are in Portland. Based on some of the comments, it looks like the restaurant was only open for a few weeks when we went, but we had no idea! Great job to all! read more

Had lunch here today. It's the first time I've been to this restaurant since the new owners have taken over and opened it up. We sat outside upstairs. Had a fantastic view of the harbor. The menu wasn't very exciting. Typical waterfront menu. Lobster roll, crab roll, fries, clams, oysters, etc.. I ordered a Caesar salad with lobster on the side with some cocktail sauce and my partner ordered a crab roll with french fries. Both are OK nothing really to be exciting. The Caesar salad was overdressed and the dressing was very salty. The crab roll is a typical crab roll except that had a a flavor. We couldn't identify. They've put some spice in it, but it was hard to tell what it was. There were also many pieces of shell in the crab salad roll. Portland restaurants have set a high bar to meet and this restaurant didn't quite meet that bar. It was OK. I could go to a lobster place in Cape. Elizabeth pay the same amount of money and have a much better meal than what I had here. We won't be in a hurry to go back here. read more
