12/10 Happy hour: check Great views: check Outdoor seating: check Wonderful service: check Awesome menu choices: check Value: check They currently offer for HH: $3 Narragansett and Peronis $7 rotating white and reds $2 oysters for happy hour (with a variety of choices) $10 chicken wings (8) Everything was great and we had a very fun time on this beautiful spring Thursday. Thanks Dry Dock for a fantastic start to our long weekend! Also, there is an art gallery right behind the deck that you can peruse. They have some beautiful work.

After a morning of looking at the ocean we decided we really needed some seafood in our lives for lunch. Dry Dock looked like a lovely location and relatively quiet so we got a seat. They sat us at the end of the bar by the oysters. It's a pretty tucked away spot and unfortunately there was a miscommunication and I don't think the server that was assigned to that area knew we were there so we waited at least 15 minutes. As soon as we informed the host they were extremely apologetic and corrected it right away. Service was stellar after that. Mistakes happen! Overall it's a beautiful airy space with two floors. There's also a deck that overlooks the harbor and I plan to tackle the stairs to sit on it when we're there in good weather! The food was fabulous. Seeing as I was seated in front of the oysters of course I had to get some. They had three varieties available this day and they were all delicious and fresh, ranging in flavor from briny to buttery. I decided to get some vegetables in so I ordered a kale Caesar. I'm not usually crazy for Caesar salad but the kale really improves the dish for me and I enjoyed it a lot. Of course I had to balance that.. so we shared some fried calamari. It was so tender and crisp with some hot picked peppers mixed in which is my favorite. My husband had a grilled fish sandwich which ended up being one of his favorite meals of the trip. It was a Fresh piece of haddock grilled with an herbaceous seasoning served on a super soft bun. He said he could have eaten 10. Really enjoyed our meal and look forward to the next time!

I looked up Dry Dock for lobster rolls, they did not disappoint that's for sure! I got the garlic brown butter roll and my husband got the cold lobster roll. Both were served with a large portion of French fries! They definitely don't skimp on the lobster! Service was just ok, they were not very busy when we went but we had to wait forever for everything. We asked for cocktail sauce and were almost done with our meal when we got a tiny serving of cocktail sauce. We had to ask for soda refill and were ready to leave when we finally got our refill. Ambiance was nice, we sat outside and had a great view of the bay. If service was better would have given 5 stars.

Prime rib and catch of the day, sword fish. Apps: calamari, haddock cheeks and, the best thing.... Mussels!! Top-notch all the way around, including Emily, or server! Thanks to all the staff!

I have tried dry dock a couple times since it reopened. I love the outdoor patio in the summer where you can head out there and grab a drink from the outdoor bar. It is limited in what you can order but has most options. I sat a the bar one time and got the chicken sandwich, it was good! I just wish the fish piece was a little bigger as the bun covered up most of the fish, but that could have just been a one time thing. I have also sat upstairs and the vibe is very nice upstairs even in the colder weather. I got the burger and it was very good with the special sauce. Their cava and dirty martini are both great as well. They also have some other cool drink options! Overall great new spot with friendly service!

I have been to Dry Dock a couple of times now, and I'm a big fan! Initially, I had some reservations (as usual when a new place opens up in Portland). Is it going to be a tourist trap?! Is the food going to be mediocre?! Based on my experience, the answer is no to both. The food has been incredible, the staff exceptional, and the space impressive. It's so expansive -- two whole floors, ocean views, Commercial Street views, bar seating... there's something for everyone. Unlike its sister restaurant, Luke's Lobster, Dry Dock doesn't seem to get as packed (which I absolutely love), although that may change during the summer. We've tried a lot of their menu and found everything quite delicious. Their burger is one of my husband's favorites in town. Their chorizo soup and chowder are both to die for. We recently had the friend cod cheeks, and it was a hit. Their dips are also phenomenal. The ceviche was the only dish we've had that didn't wow us. The addition of sweet potato was an interesting choice that I don't think added a lot of flavor. Prices are fair when considering location and quality. Overall, we've had a great experience at Dry Dock and will continue going back there. I think it's one of the best restaurants on Commercial St.

Recently just re-opened with the same name as before DRY DOCK. One of my favorite nieces works for the main office doing graphic design. She's very good at her job & loves what she does. Our wait person Jeff was a true hoot of a person. Thank you Jeff for doing all you do to make our meal such a success. Jeff a true gentleman with a gift of gab. So all in all I forgot to take pictures of all our meals which were memorable. We started off with a small tower which was plenty except I didn't get any lobster The rest of the tower was very good & fresh, a good appetizer to share. One of us got 2 halibut sliders & a ceasar salad with no complaints. The fish & chips my wife had was great. The fries perfectly done & a very tasty coleslaw. How was the tartar sauce you ask? No idea I wasn't offered any to try. Next up brother in law & I both had the halibut special of the night. We both enjoyed it but truth be told both pieces were overcooked & dry. Usually I speak up at restaurants & voice my pleasure or displeasure. Tonight I was on my best behavior. The restaurant was loud & very full of paying customers. Yes we 'll be back to try other items on the menu.

Went here a few weeks ago and we loved it. Out of all the restaurants right there on the water this is one of my favorites. And the inside and outside seating is all very nice. Was pretty busy when we showed up and waited 30 minutes for a table. Everything we got was delicious and the prices were better than we were expecting as well. Highly recommend

Pop in and sit at the bar if you're here on vacation! This was our first stop following a harbor tour and what better way to capture the essence of Maine with some fresh seafood. Friendly staff and delicious seafood. I look forward to returning

We were walking around trying to find a good place with a great atmosphere to eat that didn't have an hour wait when we stumbled upon the Dry Dock. We walked in & we were greeting immediately by 2 friendly gentlemen & put on the waiting list but sat at the bar because it was faster & full service. We ordered calamari which was delicious & had a little kick to it. We also ordered the double decker tower with lots of fresh seafood to choose from, oysters, clams, ceviche. Lobster, shrimp & tuna. My favorite was the tuna next time I will just have a whole order of that. It makes my water to think of it yummmm. We felt very full & happy when we left. I would recommend trying it.

Such a great experience here - easily got an early afternoon reservation with a lovely table overlooking the docks. Service was prompt and friendly! Great ambiance with nautical decor and a fun touch is the lobster tank right in the dining room! Doesn't get much fresher than that! Speaking of lobster, the lobster roll was incredible. Tons of claw meat for a fair price, hot & buttered was delicious on a soft and fresh roll. Comes with a pile of well seasoned fries. Tried the chef's special appetizer, "fish of the day", which was a swordfish skewer with a delicious sauce. Husband loved the blackened fish sandwich! The drinks were a real star here - get the Admiral Nelson! A delicious spicy cocktail that comes in an adorable fish glass. Very high quality food but not pretentious, we felt very comfortable dining here!!

Such a great spot on the water. Came here with my girlfriends recently for drinks and snacks and we had a great time. The space is bright and airy, there are 2 floors of seating and outdoor patios as well with water views. The food we had was solid, good bar food but limited options for vegetarians so take that into consideration. Definitely a seafood spot. Cocktails were very tasty and fun, mocktails available as well but a bit overpriced for those. Standout was the service, the bartender Ana took care of us and she was delightful. Will definitely be back again, can't wait to sit outside here in the summer!

    Excellent lobster roll and fries!

I ordered the lobster roll flight because I wasn't sure what style I wanted. The 'flavors' I got were the Maine (mayo & chive), Connecticut (butter), and chipotle. The butter was definitely my favorite one, and I wish I had gotten a full size of that instead. The others were not bad at all, I just liked the butter the best. I will say, the chipotle didn't have any discerning flavor to me and tasted exactly like the other mayo one just without the chives. I was expecting a little spice but did not get any. I would say this place lived up to the hype for me. The lobster was absolutely delicious. It gave the entire evening that authentic, working-harbor Portland feel while still feeling polished and comfortable. We started with a crisp, refreshing local Belgian wheat beer that was light, slightly citrusy, and an ideal match for the seafood-heavy meal ahead. For appetizers, the grilled octopus was excellent -- tender with a proper char, beautifully seasoned, and full of flavor. It came with pommes dauphine, pine nut and espelette vinaigrette, and garlic whip. There was a light touch of oiliness toward the end of the plate (typical with generous finishing oil), but it didn't detract from what was otherwise a very well-executed dish. The dozen raw oysters were exceptional. All three varieties were local Maine and served ice-cold: Fare Well (Newcastle), Nautical Sisters (Yarmouth), and Weskeag (South Thomaston). I had them with just the mignonette and was rewarded with clean, sweet, briny flavor. These were some of the freshest, highest-quality oysters I've had in Portland. The main courses were the real stars. The Stuffed Lobster Frites was outstanding. The lobster was sweet and perfectly cooked, the claws were pre-cracked for easy access, and the tail was cleanly split with a buttery, herby breadcrumb crust that added excellent crunch and texture. It was accompanied by scallop mousseline and dijonnaise. This is a premium dish, but the quality and generous portion made it feel worth it. Equally impressive was the seared scallops, served in a cast-iron skillet. The scallops had a beautiful golden crust and were cooked exactly right -- sweet and tender. They were paired with crisp corn, applewood-smoked bacon, kale, and roasted peppers in a light, well-balanced cream sauce. This dish avoided the common issue of being overly salty. Every bite offered a nice variety of textures and flavors, and the cast-iron kept everything hot throughout the course. It was precise, thoughtful cooking. We finished with the Chocolate Silk Pie*, which was rich, silky, and deeply satisfying with lovely hazelnut undertones and a crunchy chocolate-hazelnut topping. The presentation was beautiful, and it made for a perfect ending. Service was attentive and professional without feeling rushed or intrusive. The pacing between courses was ideal. Bottom line: If you're serious about high-quality Maine seafood, Scales is delivering at a very high level right now. The ingredients are pristine, the execution is precise, and the waterfront setting (especially from a window seat) adds real character. This was easily one of the best meals I've had in Portland. I'll definitely be back. Highly recommended for seafood enthusiasts, special occasions, or anyone who appreciates a restaurant that respects its local ingredients.

My server was nice enough, though a bit aloof. When I booked, there was only bar seating available, which is not my preference, but I was so excited to dine here that I did not care. I wish I had made a different decision. I found the cocktail list uninspiring, so I started with a lovely Albariño. I ordered the halibut ceviche, swordfish, and griddled brown bread. Being a Bay Stater, I was looking forward to the brown bread. It never arrived. No one noticed. My server did not say anything until the end, where I was offered a free coffee and ice cream/sorbet. Insulting does not begin to describe it. The halibut ceviche was delicious. It was briny and salt and tasted of the sea. I loved it. The swordfish was rich, heavy, and overcooked. I am always cooking heirloom beans, so maybe that is why I did not love the beans. I don't think I even ate half of my entree. At dessert, my server noted the missing bread and offered a sorbet or ice cream. However, he offered after I had ordered the strawberry cream puff, so it seemed like it was an option for that, not an in lieu of offer. It was not clear until the sorbet arrived along with my cream puff. The strawberries had no flavor. I took a few bites of dessert and was over the whole experience. My server did clearly offer a complimentary coffee though, which again, was insulting. From what I can tell, the kitchen never saw the mostly untouched food, due to my seat the bar. The server placed my dishes below the bar. However, he didn't ask any questions about why I didn't finish the dishes, so it must have been clear to him. I do wish the kitchen had been informed as well. I have never regretted a meal as much as the one I had at Scales. I was looking forward to a delicious dinner with a few glasses of wine. Instead, I left hungry and sad. Scales is a waste of time and money. It's a definite skip in Portland.

Once you are seated, you're handed a paper menu on which you mark your selections, then bring that marked-up menu to the counter, where you order and get a number. Food is brought up to you, and you can order subsequent rounds of food by crossing out previous orders and marking up the menu anew. I would highly recommend multiple rounds of oysters -- the first to try one of each and figure out which varieties you prefer, the second to get more of the ones you like, and the last to go all in on your favorite. They've got a varied selection that will suit various tastes, whether you favor a large creamy oyster, a small briny guy, or somewhere in between. All from Maine, which made me feel better about having oysters in a non-ber month. The oysters here are top notch, and the shuckers are, too. Not a single speck of shell in there! I love oysters, and this was my paradise. The non oyster items are also worth trying, so if you have a friend who isn't into oysters, there's something here for them, too. The smoked fish dip and french onion dip are awesome, and the chips they get from another local producer are fantastic. Whether you're a beer lover, a wine person, or a cocktailer, they've got something for you here. Any of those could be the perfect company for your favorite oyster, or you could go for their cucumber mint lemonade slushy, which is insanely refreshing and a great palate cleanser between oysters. Service is efficient, welcoming, and friendly. I think anyone from an oyster novice to an aficionado would feel right at home here. If I didn't live on the opposite side of the country, I'd be here all the time. Unfortunately for me, I'm relegated to pining for these oysters from a distance. If you live nearby, take advantage of your proximity and eat some oysters for me.

5/29/26 A special note- a new dish added to the menu- the…read moreseafood cocktail- is a winner. This is the go-to dish for the partner who doesn't care for oysters- it it superlative, and I hope it remains on the offerings. The service today- especially fine. I have become, as the French would say, "an habitué"
