Not worth all the hype! Subpar customer service minus hostess. The hostess was great, helpful when she saw us walking around and directed us to the washrooms. The younger guys running food and guys standing around chatting with each other weren't helpful. They saw my friends water cups were low but didnt offer any refills. I saw one of them putting food in the to go area when I walked up to the host stand, we made eye contact but no greeting at all. There were 2 tables who sat down way after us but immediately received their food. We ordered Lobby Pops, Lobster Rolls, Haddock Sandwich and their lobster flights. My cousin's food came out before ours, we only ordered 1 lobby pop and a haddock sandwich this visit. The wait wasn't too long but 45mins for just 1 lobster tail on a stick is ridiculous. My cousins larger order came out 15 minutes before ours. Maybe they were working on our sauce? My husband's Haddock sandwich was paper thin. The lettuce was thicker than the actual fish. From the minute we walked in, the staff could not have been more delightful! We sat at the bar and talked to one of the bartenders for suggestions, so we ordered 2 jumbo lobster rolls, with jalapeño and lime sauces, a basket of fries and coleslaw. While visiting the cute little town square in Portland, Maine we stopped for lunch at Highroller Lobster. I had a couple of lobster rolls in the past but I just wasn't impressed. However being that close to Maine lobster, I had to indulge. Our server was very helpful in guiding me to the best way to have it. Yet, when I ordered it on the digital menu (you put your order in at your table and they bring the food) I forgot to select Connecticut style (warmed lobster) and thus I was served cold lobster in a warm buttery bread...... AND IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!! I loved the selections of sauces that are drizzled on top. I added sweet potato fries and my only wish is that there was a sweet dipping sauce for those, but it didn't take away from the meal being so good overall! We came here super excited about this place with its cool outside look and decor inside. We were pretty disappointed leaving and wished we had gone elsewhere for dinner. We checked in and were sat down and told promptly to let anyone know if we needed anything and we would be helped. Went to order and there was some confusion amongst staff, and instead of taking our order then figuring it out, they had us wait and watch while they sorted things. I will say the ordering experience is tough, since you put in the order for the whole table and they bring it out on trays totally undifferentiated. This place is fascinating. They are always so busy, yet, every time we go there is a seat available for us!! It's pretty awesome, because I hate waiting for tables. LOL We have only sat outside on the patio, which I prefer, because it's not as loud and Maine in the spring and fall time is just beautiful. The outdoor seating area is made up of picnic tables. You can order via a QR code or you can go to the window that faces out to the patio to place an order. The tables had utensils, napkins and condiments, which is great. Because the food can get a little messy depending on how many sauces you order :) I love the ordering process - so easy and you can customize a lot via the app. and in the times we have been, our orders were 100% correct. Because you are ordering via the app, there's no preceived pressure to order everything at once, you can order as you as wish. We started with drinks, got some snacks a bit later and once we were done with those, we decided we would order "meals". Everything still comes out pretty fast - hot and delicious! I haven't had any of their lobster offerings, however, friends have and they seemed to enjoy them, although they were not too impressed with the prices. Came here after trying all the lobster shacks near Acadia with high expectations. We did outside seating since the inside was packed to save some time, but it took almost an entire hour for us to get our rolls, which IMO is pretty ridiculous. It got to the point where we just got it to go as it wasn't worth waiting around in the rain outside for so long. (We weren't the only ones as numerous people around us were also complaining and asking about their food) The lobster roll itself was pretty average. After eating the ones in Acadia, this was a step down for me. It didn't taste as fresh and the portions were smaller. So I wanted to see what all the hype was about with lobster rolls in Maine / New England in general lol. As soon as we walked up to Highroller, there was a crowd outside and I was like omggg. The lobster bisque was amazing super rich, filling, and honestly I would've been satisfied just eating that alone. The chunks of lobster in it were sooo good . The lobster rolls were also really good. The lobster ghee paired perfectly with the meat, and the bun was soft, buttery, and had that slight crisp. The only thing that felt a little off for us was that the lobster meat seemed a bit fatty in the rolls, which kind of threw us off. The biggest knock however was the butter was served to go in a paper container. Warm...butter. It soaked the cup. I feel as though it is time I do a redo of my review for Highroller since it's been so long. While some may think it's too touristy or what not, I disagree. I've been coming here for about as long as they have been open and always been happy! It would easily be classified as one of my wife and my favorite spots. I will say due to its popularity we do typically avoid it during peak tourist season. As you'd expect from the name they have lobster, which can be had so many different ways, in a roll, in a grilled cheese, atop a burger, in a taco shell made out of cheese if you want a gluten free roll experience just to name a few. My favorite is the surf and turf burger because you get that delicious lobster atop their brisket blend burger, which if you don't like lobster don't sleep on the normal burger. Also if you stop in give their fries a try that comes with Old Bay seasoning, some of our favorite fries for sure! A spot worth visiting if you are visiting Portland and want that lobster experience. Staff has always been friendly and quick service as well. They also typically have a great variety of drink options especially beer draft wise. Can always find Bissell Brothers as well as other local brews. The real special times are during what we would call "locals season". No long waits and the bar is walk up and the happy hour specials with their house made Crunchwraps, especially the lobster one is special!
