I used to go to a more traditional generalist acupuncturist but recently had flare ups in my back, shoulders and legs that required focused pain management so when my Korean-Chinese massage therapist recommended Jason Kim and said I should feel immediately better after treatment with him, I had to give it a shot. What I noticed immediately was the kindness that was pervasive throughout the humble and practical office. It felt like he and the receptionist were there just to serve and care for you. Anyways, I was curious about how he could help me and wanted to understand how his technique was different. During the consultation it was clear he was seeking information that could help him identify the source of my pain and he knowledgeably explained his hypothesis for the source of each of my pain areas. then as he was ready to apply the needles, he prepared you verbally and also checked in frequently to make sure I was ok. The technique is called dry needling and it is essentially releasing the trigger points where the pain is instigated. This work takes years of experience to be able to get so precise and he knows how much pressure to apply to be effective but also balancing it with what you can take as there is definitely an intense sensation (not necessarily pain) which signifies he has hit it on the spot. My massage therapist was right and I felt immediate relief and after 4 months , I have been able to spread my treatments out given I feel better overall. (FYI, I have suffered from chronic pain for 13 yrs and this is one of the most effective treatments I have had). I recommended two other friends who thank me all the time for introducing them to Jason. If you suffer from pain, you owe it to yourself to at least try Jason Kim acupuncture 2-3 times. Oh, can't forget to mention how shockingly affordable it is too. He charges a nominal initial consultation fee ( I think it's $30) and then it's $30 per area. I've been a patient here for maybe five years now, so this review is LONG OVER DUE. Where do I start? I've been getting acupuncture for almost 20 years now because western medicine usually can't figure out or fix the problem and just wants to prescribe pain pills which has really bad side effects and doesn't solve the problem. So after nearly 20 years of acupuncture, I feel confident to say Dr. Jason and his son Dr. Ian are THE BEST. They are true HEALERS, VERY knowledgeable and VERY IN TUNE with what your body is saying. They have a completely different business model than other locations which is different but works... they treat and charge per pain issue. So when you need to come in for a quick tweak it's great because you only pay $30 for that one treatment vs other places you're going to get charged anywhere from $100- 150 and you'll probably still need to come in again the following week for another treatment... but not here... when I come in with pain I usually leave without pain and don't need to come back for a while. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) had really severe back pain from a really bad car accident and couldn't sleep at night because of it and his whole body would twitch in his sleep (also waking me up). I urged him to come in and get a treatment with me but he works in western medicine and he didn't believe in acupuncture and didn't think it could cure his back problems. I finally got him a treatment for his birthday and after getting acupuncture he finally had pain relief (for the first time in DECADES) and could sleep through the night without waking up in pain or his body jolting in his sleep. We both rave about Dr. Jason and Dr. Ian to all our family, friends, or anyone we see experiencing pain. If you have pain or health issues, I highly recommend giving this place a try. We have noticed that our treatments positively effect so many other things like our mood, sleep, energy levels, even our breathing. Miracle worker for sure. We go to the location in Buena Park with Dr Jason Kim. After pulling her hamstring severely my daughter was struggling to get back to her game as an athlete. She sat out for about two months. Tried playing and pulled it again. Then we heard about Dr Jason Kim. And drove an hour and half everyday for three weeks and not only did her hamstring injury completely heal, he addressed the main cause which were her knotting quads. Stiff neck, tight back muscles and migraine. Had been experiencing a stiff neck and tight muscles for a week, which causes my migraines. Finally had a chance to visit Dr Kim's place. When I got there, got to meet his son, Ian Kang. He listened to my issues, explained what he would be doing and got straight to it. He worked in my back first. Can't say that I miss the needles, but I j ow what the end result would be. The. He worked on my migraine then neck tightness. Never felt that feeing going up my neck before, but he told me in advance what to expect. At the end of the session, a little sore but felt instant relief, especially in the back. I love coming here to get acupuncture for my tailbone and my shoulders. At one point I couldn't move my neck back and forth, and was in a lot of pain. After one session I was able to rotate it, and after a few more sessions the pain was gone. Also, my shoulders had knots in them since my high school days...after about four or five sessions the knots finally loosened up and are almost non-existent! I came to Dr Kim with the shoulder pain to get dry needling treatment. Dr Kim is very professional, knowledgeable, polite, passionate in helping his clients, and easy to communicate with. In the past I went to chiropractor, masseuse, and spine specialist and they were never able to find the root cause of the pain. I've used TENS unit, medication, stretching, yoga - nothing helped. I am beyond happy that I found Dr Kim. After each session I immediately feel the difference - a big relief. Dr Kim really understands how the muscles work, why they get tight and how to relieve the pain. He does a very accurate assessment of where your pain might be coming from and then fixes it. Arrived at 4:30 was out about 5:15 with 1st patient consult and treatment. I have multiple issues in shoulders neck and back. After receiving about 12 acupuncture trigger point treatments I felt my body start to release the pain, burning and numbness all over. I am sore as the doctor and staff warned but followed instructions to take multiple hot showers. I am walking in for Friday evening to continue healing my knotted back and neck. After visiting a podiatrist and many others, Dr. Kim was able to help me with an issue with my toe that all others weren't able to. In less than 10 visits, the pain was gone. As I'm a runner, I would have paid quite a bit to get this result. However, with his 20$ a pain pay scale + them taking my insurance (BCBS PPO) - only 25$ copay, it was more than affordable. On top of this, he and his staff are very friendly, warm, and willing to go the extra mile -- whether that is to explain the treatment, office hours, or billing questions. I highly recommend him! I live all the way in Glendale, but still drive to see him. I really get the sense that he passionate about curing people of pain -- and not someone just trying to make a living. I literally do not know if this clinic erases reviews or is filled with clients who have never experienced the true art of acupuncture, but these ratings are so weird to me. Save your time and just go to Ling's on 2615 marine. I only came here because it was the only place opened on a weekend and I was in SEVERE pain. I went here with a lot of pain and came out with about 10% of the pain gone. The acupuncturist literally gave me a lecture about back muscles for like 15 mins (which costs you an extra $20 for no reason that you HAVE to pay) and the actual session only took 5 mins. How in the world can one expect to relieve pain in 5 mins?! And then he made me stretch for 5 mins... I waited for 30 mins to get a 5 min "needle" session, 5 min stretch that I could do at home, & 15 min lecture where he just repeated the same thing 5x. It was ridiculous. If you have intense pain that needs to be handled on the weekend, then go for it, but there are definitely way better places for full pain relief. read more

Dr. Kim is the BEST!!! If you're suffering from any sort of pain, you absolutely need to try his acupuncture. I have the worst knots from working as a nurse in my entire back, neck, and shoulders that have persisted for years and are worse when I'm stressed. My first time trying acu was with Dr. Kim and I felt amazing after the soreness dissipated. However I live about 40 mins away and can't come every day or even every week so I tried a few other places closer to me. No one else takes the time to really work each individual knot. He also really lets you guide him to the pain areas so you don't feel like they're just going into the wrong knot. He doesn't just leave you lying there with very little actual hands on time. Most of the appointment is actually treating the painful knots and then some time under the heating pads. Pricing is SO REASONABLE. I would pay double to get the therapy and pain relief Dr. Kim consistently provides. If only he was open on Mondays, unfortunately my days off don't match with his days open. Oh, his English is great, I don't speak any Korean. Non-Korean speakers won't have a problem. If you're new or seasoned to acupuncture, this is going to be your new favorite place. I have been to several acupuncture places but none that use needles that are so big that they hurt while inserted as well as cause bruises.
