He makes the to explain medical terms and anatomical functions of your conditions and best available procedures to correct the conditions. Furthermore, he is comfortable with going into greater details about how the procedure/ procedures will improve the medical conditions. I was so surprised that after decades of my mother having spinal surgeries and epidurals by traditional orthopedic surgeons, she was left is severe debilitating pain. Her only recourse was pain medication, which left her tired, sleepy, and hopeless every day. She had a L5/S1 fusion and c4/c5 herniated disk surgery, and recently was diagnosed with spondyliothis/ degenerative spine condition. To make matters worse, the L5/S1 fusion has compacted the above vertebrae and worn down the cushion in L4 to the point of bone on bone. We had been searching for a remedy for years, and we're only offered cortisone, epidurals, and ultimately fusion surgery (again), by doctor after doctor. Until.... We met Dr. Wu. In 15 minutes he explained an outpatient procedure that we had never heard of, that for the first time - actually made sense! So we gave it a try. In 15 minutes, Dr. Wu completed his recommended procedure on my mother. In 2 days, she was walking without a walking stick/ cane, not needing wheelchair assistance, not debilitated by severe pain, nor completely dependent on medications like nerve modulators, or opioid pain killers, or muscle relaxants to maintain her daily activities. A week later, I am truly amazed that his work has reduced her pain by more than 60% and now she is walking and smiling and laughing again. She has improved drastically, and now I am blessed to enjoy holding her hand while walking together - something we have not done since I was much younger. I missed so many years of this special experience with her. Thank you so much, Dr. Wu; for giving us new memories to rekindle. PS. Thank you for diagnosing and treating my bursitis. I can bend my knee again and walk without a painful limp. I had no idea the problem could be fixed so quickly and feel so much better! Sincerely, Yamina

After two consultations, he gave me a painkiller injection in my lower back. Dr. Arita's diagnosis was accurate, and thanks to him, I have improved to an amazing extent. Also, when I had the injection in my lower back, the procedure was done in the doctor's office, so I didn't have to go to another hospital, which was very convenient. Also, two nurses were by my side all the time, holding my hand. The doctor also talked to me about various things, which helped me relax as I was scared of the injection, which was very reassuring. I live in OC, so it's a little far, but Dr. Arita carefully considers the treatment options, so I think he's a trustworthy doctor. He doesn't make me go back in for many times. First, he listens to me, identifies the area that hurts, prescribes the appropriate medicine, and if that doesn't work, he tells me the next treatment. Then, after I get better, he introduces me to physical therapy and releases me from my own consultation, so I don't have to go there unnecessarily. If I ever have any pain in the future I won't hesitate to go to him.

While the clinic is supposedly under the supervision of Dr.Yang I ended up seeing a Resident Who I believe wishes he were somewhere else. At the end of the visit Dr. Yang comes in, offering a few words, and departs. Don't remember him discussing the case. The experience was disappointing. Fast forward a year.... My back is worse and I am having Sciatic problems. Can't take NSAIDS so I am stuck with Prednisone....not good! I visited my primary care doctor and attempted to make an Ortho appointment. It seems that as I prior walked into the Otho Clinic I can't use it again and I am eternally locked to Dr. Yang as my Orthopedic Physician. Dr. Yang is an elusive fellow. Takes months to get an appointment. Online there is no way to "remove" Dr. Yang and make an appointment (hopefully sooner) with a different specialist. Last I looked appointments with the elusive Dr. were 2 months into the future. I know there are other Orthopedists. I would travel to Westwood if that was the only way to gain a near future appointment. A few words about UCLA care in general. While it is a teaching hospital with all the latest and greatest treatments it does have problems. They have, over the past years tried to bulk up outpatient flow by taking in additional Primary Care doctors. What they haven't done is to bulk up ancillary services and the availability of specialists. SO....for an x-ray or other outpatient need you end up being scheduled a month later. In the case of orthopedics try/ 2 months to gain an appointment. This is not customer based good medical care.

Yes the wait is long and yes office staff not warm (staff generally in medical industry is a problem) and yes because Dr Yang is busy is because he is premier at what he does. I came in not like a social visit because busy doctors like to focus and solve an issue. I provided my MRI results, medical records, and with just a few questions pros and cons based on my research and neurosurgeon advice. Dr Yang gave a better recommended shot (also without oblation ...means to not cutting nerves). . It's a temporary shot to reduce inflammation to help heal and manage pain. The surgical staff is amazing!. I woke up without pain Doctor personally after shot visited and instructed to rest a week, no gym lifting ... just light walking , and no driving for month or minimally. On 3rd month follow up visit I was able to drive 45 minutes without pain. Dr Yang then recommended pain management and therapy and a sleep number bed to support my back which he also uses. I can drive an hour now but always have to walk afterwards for my collagen issue situation. Now able a light gym workout, bike and walk again... enjoy life. He is very rare for his age and gifted... a truly vocational doctor that I also recommended to partner with my Neurosurgeon Dr Liker.

Dr. Ananth gave me two referrals that I was very desperate for, and I greatly appreciate that! They were referrals for treatments that they do not do in that office and are pretty extreme. He said he wanted me to exhaust all other options before giving me referrals to those two treatments. I did exhaust all other options, so he did finally give me those two referrals. Again, I'm very grateful to him for doing that because I don't think I would've been able to pursue those treatments without his referral or a referral by another psychiatrist. One thing that bothers me a lot, though, is that, instead of being offered Spravato, which is covered by my insurance, I could only do IV ketamine there. I don't know why they didn't offer Sp I experienced zero effect until my sixth treatment. Cash pay at that time for me was extremely expensive (about $600 per session). So, the first $3000 worth of IV Ketamine treatment was completely ineffective for me.

In network for most insurance companies. Cons- The biggest issue is billing. They have such an antiquated set up in which the only options for payment are to mail in your check or credit card number or to try calling to give them the cc number over the phone. They rarely answer on the first try. The whole system is beyond frustrating. You know how any time you go to any other doctor and have a procedure done, it's pretty standard for the doctor to call & check on you? Or let's say you had some labs done and the doc calls you back or emails you? You can't get that here without being charged for a full office visit. That's right - a 2 minute phone call in which the doctor says 'I looked at the test results and we need to send off to insurance for the next procedure', gets billed for $800 (full office visit). There is no such thing as a courtesy follow up phone call, even if it's 2 mins 16 seconds, yes I have the call log. Appointments are easy to get but NEVER be in a hurry here because they are consistently at least an hour behind. Overall, I do still recommend this clinic because they do listen and don't just tell you 'it's anxiety' or brush you off without trying to help. I just think it's helpful to know what to expect for billing and if I had known this is how they were, I would have chosen a different place.

However, when the first shot didn't alleviate the pain she devised a plan b which included another set of shots and a proposed plan C if necessary. During the procedure nothing was explained, I was told to pick up my shirt and lay face down. No guidance as to what to expect from the procedure while the doctor and her assistant spoke to each other about irrelevant things. Perhaps it's due to them doing this repetitively however, it'd be less nerve racking if the procedure was briefly explained to the patient. After the shots I was told I'd get a follow up call within 2 days to see if they had worked, it's been over 6 months and I never received that call. I did however get a bill for over $200, for the shots they advised me wouldn't cost me anything out of pocket. Needless to say there will be no further follow up from me.
