Where to begin. The service is non-existent. The last time I was there - which was a while ago, I sat for 10 minutes before I had to ask if I could order a drink. Keep in mind I was one of ten people in the bar/lounge area and in direct line of sight of both the bartender and the server. I then had to ask if I could get a menu. So they begrudgingly brought me a menu. When I finally ordered I was asked for a credit card before they walked away to even bring me my first drink. I have never had this happen at a restaurant in my life when seated at a table. Every interaction felt like I was being an annoying inconvenience to the servers. I really want to like this place but I have given it WAY too many tries, and each time the service disappoints. The food is good enough but I just cannot recommend it based on the total lack of customer care. Maybe their regulars receive better help, but this is no way to grow a business or make anyone new want to return. read more

The drying shed is way better than mastros and better than henrys. Service 10. Food 10. Atmosphere 10. Value per dollar 10. Its a 10 / 10 for all cadegories. After going here every other place will just fall short. Idk why this place only has a 3/5 stars. It should have 6/5. It was really cool being able to show this place off to my mom on her trip here. What a diamond in the rough! This was my first time going to Drying Shed. I was a little concerned by the exterior, but for a place that has been around for 50 years maybe that isn't a big deal. What really matters is the service and the food. Both of these were fantastic! Al was happy to greet us and show us a table in what looked like the bar area. That was great because you get to see all the sports paraphernalia and listen to all the locals chat about their day and the goings on. We both had the prime rib, and man.. what a meal! We started with the house salad which uses house-made croutons and house-made dressing!! Then we were offered a complimentary cup of chowder (only available on weekends) because we had asked about it and Al wanted to let us try it. When the main came out, we were floored... a generous portion of prime rib, cooked and seasoned perfectly, severed with what I can only assume was house made horseradish sauce... all that along with vegetables and a potato! So good!! It was too much for us to finish but we loved every bite. We got one of the fresh carrot cakes to go, because we love carrot cake. What a great find! I highly recommend this place and don't "judge the book by the cover" as they say.. this is truly a diamond in the rough. read more

Came here with the family on a Tuesday evening to enjoy their prime rib special. Having grown up in East San Jose, we were disappointed in ourselves for not having visited sooner. It is literally a hole in the wall up the McKee foothills. The ambiance was set like many old school steak houses a little dark and dreary, but still cute. No natural light. Seating booths were cool looking very nostalgic feel. My husband and I ordered the prime rib meal for two special. Came with a side salad, steamed mixed vegetables, baked potato, and condiments like sour cream, butter, ranch and horseradish. We heard from others house wine came with it but we were never offered. Saw other tables get the house carafe, so I'm not sure. We didn't mind either way. Note, there is no kids menu but the server offered chicken tenders and fries for the kiddos which was great. If you're looking to fulfill a prime rib dinner and is in the heart of East San Jose, this is the place to be. Nicely prepared dinner. The only downside we can share is the host/server (only 1 person) may have had a bad day. She wasn't the most pleasant or enthusiastic person there that night. I would recommend they staff appropriately so staff isn't overwhelmed as she appeared to be. It took about 1hr to get the check, but we planned for that while enjoying our wine. We went early thankfully,but saw a crowd start piling up in the entrance as we were leaving at about 630. Rating should be a 3.5 star. OMG; this place was awesome! I saw an add on FB. Said, 2 prime rib dinners for $69.95. I pay less in a Nevada casino, but I still believe this was an amazing experience. I would totally do it again. The ambiance was wonderful. The staff amazing and above all the food was extremely well plated and delicious. I do not drink wine as I'm allergic. I was only drinking water. When I asked the server for a refill of water; she brought a pitcher, filled my glass & then left the pitcher. I thought that was very considerate. We've had various family events at the Drying Shed over the years. It's been a long time since we've been back as we've all gotten older and not as many occasions. We went back here on a Sunday to take my Dad for an early Father's Day. When we got there, there was a big event and they said they didn't have me down for reservations. But Al sat us anyway, which I really appreciated as my Dad had picked this restaurant out. Not sure what happened to the reservation I made. It's been many years since we've been back and the food tastes even better. Good portion sizes on the prime rib, they don't skimp. And prices still reasonable. I'm not a beef person, so I really like their stuffed shrimp. Everything was delicious. The clam chowder was really good too. The entrees come with soup and a side too. Service was excellent even though they had a big event. Al was friendly and I could tell he really takes pride in the restaurant. Support this family owned restaurant. It's been a min since we've had dinner at the Drying Shed. It was a busy night as there was a Xmas party going on when we arrived. The speakers were high, so we heard all the singing, dancing etc. It was fine, actually. We were entertained. I was really disappointed with my experience at The Drying Shed. I had heard about their Tuesday night prime rib special and was excited to finally give the restaurant a try. According to both their website and the hours posted outside the restaurant, they are open until 10:00 PM Monday through Saturday. My party arrived around 8:40 PM and waited approximately 5-10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Even then, no one came over until I called someone over myself. When I asked for a table, I was told they were closed. At that point it was only around 8:47 PM. I asked what time they closed, and I was told 9:00 PM, despite both the posted hours outside and their online hours stating 10:00 PM. What was most disappointing wasn't just the conflicting hours--it was the lack of customer service. No one seemed concerned that we had driven out specifically to try the restaurant, there was no apology for the confusion, and no effort was made to invite us back another time. I got ready, drove all the way there looking forward to trying the prime rib special, and left feeling unwelcome and frustrated. If your actual closing time is 9:00 PM, the posted hours should reflect that. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I can't recommend this restaurant. Do NOT come here. read more

I debated on writing this review because I am a native of San Jose and my family has celebrated holidays and birthdays here. My last visit was for a friend's birthday in the banquet area. Food was average. The decor is dated and in desperate need of renovation. The owner was extremely rude and impatient. There were 5 to 8 people sitting at each table and they wanted to pay separately. Our table just requested to use 2 different credit cards for payment. The owner got mad, told us no, threw the bill on the table then told us to figure it out. After paying, he rushed us out. Came here on a Tuesday for their Chef's Special Prime Rib Au Jus Dinner for Two. This special includes two prime ribs with soup or salad, potato and vegetables, and a carafe of wine for $59.95. I'm not sure how many ounces the prime rib was, but it was a huge meaty slab! I got mine cooked to medium well, and it was still very juicy and tender. However, the seasoning was lacking and it tasted very bland--same with the au jus which didn't have much flavor either. On another note, the complimentary bread, salad, and baked potato was decent. You can also substitute your sides with rice or fries as well. I did enjoy the ambiance and fall decor of this place and service was good. read more

Let's talk about the prime rib, it's nice and tender regardless of if u get it well done, medium or rare. For some reason tonight it was lacking seasoning which was disappointing. The gentleman that answered the phone said no reservations needed and the price was 59.95. My husband double checked the price and thought it was a good deal. When we actually went to the restaurant on Tuesday Dec. 2nd, the sign for $59.95 was posted when you walked in the door to the right. Good to double check right? When the bill came, we were charged 69..95. I brought this to the servers attention and showed her the 59.95 price. She snatched that sign up and said it hadn't been that price in 2 months. Remember we had called 2 weeks ahead of time and the gentleman told us $59.95. I feel because the $59 sign was posted that they should of honored that price. Kind spoiled our experience there. We celebrate my aunts 85th birthday this past weekend. Everything looked very nice and clean. Our party started at 6:00 pm, and Denise never told my family that she doubled booked the hall. She only gave us 1 hr to decorate for our party. She also opened 40 bottles of wine without asking us first and charged $20 corkscrew fee. Made reservations a month ahead for steak and lobster dinner to celebrate my son's engagement but they were out of lobster. That was really disappointing but we ordered the prime rib dinners instead and they were really good. Their clam chowder was probably the best I've had and would go back just for that.
