We had a great dinner at Scott's Seafood! The seafood was fresh, flavorful, and nicely presented. It is a little pricey, but that's understandable for a downtown San Jose location. The dishes took a little longer than expected to come out, but the servers were excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. We were celebrating a birthday, and the restaurant surprised us with a special sundae, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the celebration even more memorable. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me? Maybe this is my fault for ordering the seabass twice and being disappointed both times. But also for nearly $50 you'd think they'd do better. I always crave the mashed potato's and cooked spinach that come with this dish so I risk it. The first time the seabass was dry and overcooked I chalked it up to being a difficult fish and a bad day. But this time not only was the fish rubbery dry but the almond coating was cooked in old oil adding an unpleasant flavor. It's not that they don't know how to cook fish, because my mother's scallops were cooked perfectly in a little citrus butter sauce. But it seems like they hate seabass. The free bread appetizer was a delicious warm fluffy sourdough with butter, redeeming the meal slightly. If only considering our sweet and engaging server, I'd be giving Scott's Seafood a 5. Unfortunately, too much else dragged it down to mediocre. Our first disappointment was the ambience. We had memories of the outdoor seating that had unfortunately changed into a sort of covered pergola set-up. It wasn't especially attractive but I could see how it probably supported dining outdoors in more diverse weather conditions. So it sort of made sense, but we still didn't enjoy it as much! Definitely pay attention to the date of this review though as we heard there would be upcoming changes to the outside seating area. The real reason for the lower review though was the food which weighs in heavily for me. If I'm going to eat out, then I'm really going for the food. Bottom line, I had a craving for a Blackened Fish sandwich as it was described on the menu, but that's not the way it tasted. The salmon fillet was incredibly thin without any discernible seasoning at all, and I couldn't find the pepper jack cheese. The under-toasted bread was mostly stuffed with lettuce and too-thick slices of tomato. It wasn't inedible but not crave-able either, and the fries tasted faintly of vegetable oil that should have been discarded. Again, not completely terrible, but also not good. To her credit, our server encouraged me even before I received my order to send it back if I didn't like it. I almost never do that and opted not to in this case. I may return here for another try and I may not. I do wish I'd gotten the name of our wonderful server though! read more

My daughters and I went there on the way to a candlelight concert. The hostess, Shelby, was so friendly and smiling at our entrance and complimented us on our attire. She was very welcoming. The restaurant was very lovely with an outside eating area that was nice. We chose to sit on the inside. Our server Jason was excellent! He served everything in precise order and was very professional and warm and kind. We started off with bread and cocktails. The bartender made them perfectly. My daughters tried the oysters Rockefeller for the first time and we all loved it. One of my daughters had the pasta with the sausage and she really liked it. The steak and the crab was well liked by my other daughter. I ordered the scallops with the risotto. I'm always reluctant to order scallops because I like them a certain way. I like them basically to perfection. I have to say, these were a little overcooked and I didn't really care for the pairing with risotto. That's just me though. It was a great dining experience mainly because of the people working there and the ambience. I would like to go there for lunch because they have lobster dogs and crabcakes that I'd like to try. I order the steak frites with a side cup of clam chowder. The clam chowder was yummy, and I really enjoyed the steak frites. I requested for medium rare, and some pieces were slightly more medium than medium rare, but it was still yummy. Got a creme brulee to finish off our meal. Their drinks were tasty too. I got the blueberry lemon drop, which was refreshing. The espresso martini was wonderful as well. Last night was a nightmare. I took my cousin out for dinner on her bachelorette night. I am familiar with Scott's in Sacramento (different ownership) so it felt like a little piece of home. Both my cousin & I were looking forward to all the vibes at Scott's. Unfortunately, the only vibes we caught was negative shade from our server. We didn't have a reservation, but they weren't very busy and the hostess was so nice...she sat us down immediately. Shortly after we were seated; an older woman with a messy bun, no makeup, and a horrible attitude, came up to greet us as our server. She didn't give her name...but immediately she asked us what type of water we wanted and if we were here for a show. Very short, very brute, and no invite for questions or feedback on the menu. It was off, but we let it slide. Then once she returned to pour our water...we were ready to order. She asked us for our drink order (pineapple mezcalita; very sweet with barely any alcohol), and after we told her what drinks we wanted...I mentioned "oh, we are also ready to order". That's when she abruptly said "No! No! No! Not right now. Give me some time" and immediately walked away. She left before we could even respond. She shushed us as if we were children. The worst part is she had no sense of remorse once she finally returned about 25 minutes later. The server came back finally ready to take our order and her attitude got worse with each interaction. After writing down our order (jumbo prawns, crab cakes, lobster bisque soup, and clam chowder) the server made a very rude remark...."oh, so no dinner....ok" then walked away snarky. At that point, my cousin and I were so confused and disappointed with our experience but we maintained our conversation and promised we would not let the server's negative energy bring us down. We asked for dessert menus, ordered crème brûlée then asked for our check. I gave my card to our server then she returned shortly afterwards and said very loudly..."do you have another card? This is declined"...I was so shocked and even more confused. When I tried to ask her a question about what happened, I was mid sentence and she walked away!!! She walked over to the hostess to talk about us. She pointed at us as if we were less than. It was terrible!!! I immediately proceeded to call my bank and double check the status of my card. They said everything was fine! No declined transactions were present on my account! I paid with cash just to be done with it and to limit interactions with our sorry excuse of a server. She never returned to our table, she only stared at us like we were less than. This is not the Scott's seafood that I'm used to. I'll never return here. The service falls so short, and no customer deserves to be treated like we were treated. read more

Came to the new location of Scott's Seafood (shows we haven't been here in over 5 years), and it's still quaint. Smaller space and harder to find parking (if you don't want to pay $40 for the outdoor public parking). Greeted immediately by the hostess and seated right away. We had a great, friendly server who was good at talking with us, but knowing when to stop talking too. Food is still delish and you can never go wrong with their clam chowder. Oh and they still have a private dining area that seats about 65-70 people. They let us peek into the room because I was curious if they could still have private parties. read more

I also found their wine list to be basic. For wine lovers, the list consists of the typical largely distributed brands like Caymus, Silver Oak, Rombauer, and Belle Glos. After listening to numerous recommendations from diners, I finally arrived at Scott's Seafood in San Jose--and I was so excited! From the moment I stepped inside, everything was perfect. The atmosphere was just right, beautifully decorated, and incredibly welcoming. The outdoor seating was a perfect bonus for those who enjoy outdoor dining. The service was equally impressive. My waiter, Hugo, was attentive, knowledgeable, and recommended the Almond Crispy New Zealand Sea Bass--a choice that certainly lived up to its reputation. I started with a Boston clam chowder, and I must say, it was one of the best clam chowders I've had from the East Coast to the West Coast. Rich, flavorful, and incredibly comforting. I also tried their Watermelon Mojito, a non-alcoholic cocktail that was refreshing and delicious. Scott's Seafood is definitely on my list of favorites, and I will definitely be back! We had reservations and arrived early. It was basically empty inside at 4:45 we were sat and given water and bread promptly. Our waiter came by as we sat down and gave us his recommendation on the menu and then left. We then waited 30 minutes and nobody came back to our table to even take our drink order. We ordered the lobster bisque bowl and caesar salad. Both delicious! I got the pesto rigatoni with salmon as my main and wow it was delicious!! Flavorful with fresh veggies like bell peppers and mushrooms, the salmon was nice and crispy but was just a little fishy smelly but still good. My bf got the rainbow trout or something and this was very good with yummy spinach and mashed potatoes!! Interior feels a bit cramped just bc of the metal Beam structures inside but they have white table cloth setting and nice cutlery. The table by the window is prob the best for outside view. First, I want to say the service was excellent. Everyone was friendly and attentive, and Tatiana in particular did a wonderful job taking care of us. The wine selection was also very good. Unfortunately, the food was a major disappointment, especially considering the price. The dishes were incredibly bland and lacked flavor across the board. My wife ordered the sole, which was fine, but honestly tasted like something we could have easily prepared at home for a fraction of the cost. I ordered the "almond-crusted" sea bass, but calling it crusted was misleading -- it was simply topped with a few sliced almonds. More importantly, the dish had virtually no seasoning. It honestly tasted as though no salt or seasoning had been added at all. Overall, while the service and atmosphere were pleasant, the food simply did not justify the expense. If you're looking for flavorful seafood that matches the premium prices, this probably isn't the place. read more

I ordered for my main entree the shrimp and risotto. My husband ordered the halibut. The associates we went with ordered paella, lobster and shrimp risotto. I was not impressed with the risotto. Had a reservation for my anniversary dinner. We got sat at the window which was pretty much a corner table so it was tight of a dining table. The designated server never came around.. we waited over 15 minutes after being seated. We eventually requested to sit outside in the open where someone can at least see us lol. Had a wonderful Mother's Day brunch with my family. The buffet had a great selection of food. They had the breakfast staples, then a seafood selection that included crab legs, oysters and shrimp cocktail. There were omelette, prime rib and crepe stations with an array of other desserts. Food is very mediocre, the menu is unimaginative and the price is disproportionately high. Service is excellent as always, and the ambience is very nice, but I just can't get by the fact that the menu is just uninspired. Let me get little bit more specific that last comment ... it applies to their entrées and not their appetizers which I could've just eaten those and been very happy. As it was, I had the Shrimp Veracruz, which was delicious as always. If I go back, I will have the Oysters Rockefeller and the Hamachi Crudo. Their mixed drinks are excellent, and their bread is always spot on. This was my first time dining at this restaurant, and I left genuinely angry. The food was completely flavorless -- plain, strange‑tasting, and absolutely not worth the price. I ordered the pear salad and received one tiny piece of pear. The serving utensils felt cheap, and they didn't even bother to replace the dirty forks and knives after the appetizer. For the prices they charge, the quality of both the food and the service should be far higher. To make things worse, they added an extra charge at the end "for employee benefits," which is outrageous and feels deceptive. I left this dinner very upset. I do not recommend this restaurant. We had a party of 8 so we were able to split the tab. I split an order of crab cakes and halibut. The crab cakes were perfect! The halibut was tender inside but overcooked on the outer layer.
