First impressions: I walked into the restaurant it wasn't that busy and there was no one to greet me or take my order. I had to wait for a couple of minutes until someone came to take my order. Ordering my food: The lady (owner??) took my order and I ordered a carne asada burrito. She used a calculator and calculated my price manually and said the total came up to be $19.75. Huh interesting, on the menu it was $17.95 and I chalked it up to tax. As the total came up, I saw the tip options. I ordered takeout so normally I hit 0 tip but interestingly enough, there is no 0 option when you are first presented tipping options. I had to click Other and manually type in 0. When I did that, she gave me the stink eye and felt like I was being judged. I received my receipt and to my surprise the total cost came up to $20.34?? Excuse me? There was a credit card surcharge of 3% applied? I wasn't made aware of this surcharge when I ordered. Why are we expected to pay this cost? This should have been covered on the business side. If you are going to order from this place be sure to track the cost of what you are ordering. Waiting for my food: While I was waiting for my food, I looked around the restaurant. It seems to be some kind of sports bar restaurant. I waited almost 30 minutes for ONE burrito! I didn't feel welcome being there. Getting my food: In my head, I was thinking this better be one fine burrito... especially when this burrito costs over 20 bucks and overall time to get my food was 30-35 minutes. When I received my food, I looked at it and was extremely disappointed. What a sad burrito! It's so tiny! I could have walked into Chipotle across the street, ordered a burrito for half the cost, get skimped on that burrito, and still turn out to be a much bigger portion than this burrito. Food Review: I still gave them the benefit of the doubt, okay expensive burrito, tiny portions, but how does it taste? When I took my first bite, at this point I wasn't even surprised anymore. They put in the WRONG meat... This is definitely NOT carne asada. How hard is it to mess up one burrito order? Taste wise, it was an okay burrito. It has all of the ingredients of a burrito listed on their menu, but taste isn't that out of this world. You can get better service and food elsewhere. Overall: I'm normally supportive of locally owned restaurants, but this was just an awful experience. It was like they don't even want my business. I will not be coming back here again. read more

Poor service, no welcome at the time we arrive, they took 20 minutes to take our drinks, another 10 minutes to take our order and more than 50 minutes to bring our food We came in at 12:15 pm and until now is 1:14 pm and we still haven't received our food. IMHO Los Garcias has moved to a new location, which is much bigger and has much better parking. The vibe is the same, great food, friendly service, colorful decor, and happy customers. When we arrived around 5:30ish, the restaurant was packed, but we managed to get a table for four, close to the bar and in view of the many big screen TVs showing the current sport games. Drink orders were taken, a basket of yummy chips and 3 bowls of really HOT salsa brought to the table. The menfolk each ordered the Fajitas Mixta (shrimp, carne asada, and chicken), and we women ordered the 3-item combo plates served with rice & beans. I treated myself to Chile relleno, beef enchilada, and crunchy taco, $24.95. In the former location, when the plates arrived, you were warned not to touch the VERY HOT plates. This visit, my plate was just warm to the touch and the food was warm, not hot. Usually, I had to wait a few minutes before I could safely bite into my food. Service as always was genuine and friendly. You can tell, they are happy to see you and serve you. However, the service was a little slow due to the packed restaurant. It took us awhile to flag people down to bring us utensils, to-go boxes and our checks. I'm sure this will improve as they get used to larger crowds in their new environment. Update: Los Garcias Restaurant's new location! The Old Oakland location is closed. They still are in a soft opening phase. But the restaurant is open. The bar is nice with counter seating. Their agua fresca machine did not arrive yet, which is what I wanted to get. So, I ordered a regular taco with al pastor. But the kitchen forgot my order and the owner was nice enough to upgrade my order to a super taco: served with your choice of meat, whole beans, onions, cilantro, tomato, avocado, and cheese on a homemade corn/flour tortilla. I didn't see any avocado. Oh well, it was a upgrade from what I originally ordered, so I can't complain. Support your local business. read more

Had an opportunity to enjoy Sunday lunch at new location food is good however disappointing for the lack of service it's still remains the same. We had to ask for refills asked for chips to enjoy with our food never made it to our table waited to ask about dessert no one came by. It's been a while since I have had some delicious Mexican food in the bay area and this is a diamond in the rough. I didn't even know this place was here until I read about it in an article about them moving due to limited parking. This is the type of restaurant that I love to support. Just good ol home cookin!! I had the wet burrito con carne with a half red and half green sauce. Let me tell you, the carne asada was the best I ever had. It had that char flavor with amazing seasoning and it was juicy goodness. Everyone here is friendly and the service was great. I spoke about the new location that they will be moving to right next to California sourdough and the beautiful lady who rang me up was super excited about it. Los Garcias saved me multiple times when I would stay at Alura Inn. I just had to call to place an order and walk down the hallway to pick up my fish taco combo. I love the cilantro sauce on everything...the chile relleno, chips and tacos! I always ask for extra. I really hope this new location makes up for the loss in business at the previous one. The last time I went to the old location, I ordered a birria to go. The only thing I was sad about was that it was in a 3 compartment hinged container and the broth spilled in the bag. One of the BEST Mexican restaurants I have ever been to in my 40 years in Bay Area. They recently moved from Gish and Old Oakland road to Murphy & Old Oakland road for a much better and bigger space. The food is tasty, quantity is perfect. The chips and salsas (3 different dips) are the best. Their Cadillac Margaritas are the best! The owners are down to earth folks. Their food has become like a reference point for my entire family. Any other Mexican restaurant we go to, we end up comparing against Los Garcia's food. Delicious breakfast, disappointing fish. The best way to describe this place is that it's a Mexican sports bar. They have lots of TVs to watch sports, a full bar, and friendly service. The breakfast plates are highly recommended. Their eggs with chorizo were very tasty. Things that also were good: their beans, their rice, their fresh corn tortillas. The grilled chicken was flavorful and juicy. The Margarita was generous and well-balanced. Less good: the pescado al ajillo was surprisingly dry and just not very good. It was not prepared the way I usually see for this recipe, seemingly deep friend and also not having much of a sauce. The flour tortillas seemed to be homemade, which is awesome, but they were a bit dry and stiff. Definitely recommended for a casual breakfast or lunch, especially if you want to watch sports. I think to give the place a fair review I will need to come back when they have settled in as they just relocated to this location. They did warn us food will take some time to come out. They said 20 but it was more like 30 or so. Had they told us when we first sat we would have left. At time they told us we had already ordered had drinks and chip. I'd say 15 minutes after they told us. So we waited it out. We should have left as food was not worth the wait. It wasn't bad flavor was there just need improvement. The fajita the veggies were lacking or shrank as it was over cooked. I do have to say the beef was tender and had good flavor just a tad salty. I got the combo the taco look more like a tostada and the tiny enchilada lacking smothered sauce and cheese. Chicken inside was dried along with the rice. Rice and beans were lacking. Usually they give you a heap of rice and beans not here. Beans also need more cheese topping. The sangria and chip and salsa was the best thing. This was an expensive lunch for just two people. $72 for lunch. Was hoping this place would be a winner as it's close to work. read more

I am just sharing an update that after the restaurant served us uncooked rice and added chicken in a vegetarian order, they refused to fix the order a following visit and they refused a refund. We had to dispute the charges with our bank account. Terrible customer service, terrible food, never going here again and I suggest that no one else go unless you want stomach issues. Delicious little spot off the beaten path. Family owned with the energy and hospitality to match! The hotel that shares a parking lot is sketchy to say the least. This is one of my favorite local spots in San Jose and definitely worth braving the hotel clientele in the parking lot. I love coming here before I head to work once a month or so. It's family owned which to me is a great factor when choosing where to spend my time and money. The chips and salsa's are amazing, 3 different salsa's too. I usually get foods here that I wouldn't normally try anywhere else because it's so good here. Beef rib pieces with red sauce and Nopales (cactus) was really good. The parking can be tight once your in there, it's the same parking lot that shares a hotel as well. The service has always been great, they usually have sports of some sort on. The place is decorated well, it's well lit with natural sunlight. If you sit at the bar you will get great service for sure from Erica, she is super nice Bust out your not so great Spanish like I do to try and practice here, either way they got you. I went there today 7/15/26 to get a drink at the bar, not to eat food, with a coworker to watch a soccer game England vs argentina 12pm just to watch the first half only since we were on a break. After we got the drinks, we told the bartender we wanted no food thank you after he asked. The bartender then got aggressive and told us to leave the bar because we were not going to eat. Not once but multiple times during the game and that he was loosing money because of us. He then said he was going to jack up the price of the mineral water drinks with no alcohol from like $7 to $10 as an illegal penalty fee and i got the receipts all because we were not going to eat. Before we left he already had given other customers that were walking in to take our chairs and made me uncomfortable. The whole experience was a nightmare. Before we left i needed to tell him i didn't like how he treated us and how you disrespected us and all he said a business is a business. Note that they aren't there for their customers. The burrito I had was yummy! Ordering was easy at the register. Inside they have tv's playing sports and a lot of tables and chairs for customers. Parking is in the back and then you walk around to the front entrance. They have a nicely painted mural on the side wall. I've visited Los Garcias a few times and felt it was time to share my experience. It has been around for decades, and it never disappoints! I love supporting these mom-and-pop shops, and on every visit, I get to experience how much love this family puts into this restaurant. I usually order my norm, which is a carne asada plate with rice and beans. The cut of meat they use is top-notch and cooked to perfection. As many of you know, carne asada can easily be the best or the worst protein on your plate. For the record, LGR's carne asada has hit hard on every visit! It is tasty, tender, juicy, and just downright good! Their rice and beans here are always on point and pair excellently. Service is always friendly, and everything is priced just right. This review is hard to write because we've been coming here for years . Always happy to support this small family business. But after what happened during my sister's birthday dinner, I'm done. I'll never come back. I brought a few simple decorations to make the night special a tablecloth, balloons, and some light confetti. That's it. Nothing over the top. But the owner came over with the nastiest attitude and said, "You can't be doing that" in a tone that felt aggressive and downright rude. I felt embarrassed and completely uncomfortable. He didn't try to be respectful about it at all . he made us feel like a burden. Even though I told him I would clean it up, he hovered with this miserable energy. Then toward the end of our dinner, he literally turned off the lights near us, like we were being rushed out in the middle of a birthday celebration! Seriously? I even spoke to the young woman working there (possibly his daughter), and she kindly told me not to worry about cleaning but I couldn't shake how horrible the owner had been from start to finish. After all the years of support, he treated us like strangers who weren't welcome. It was rude, unnecessary, and honestly pretty shameful. No one deserves to feel that way!! especially during a celebration. That was my last visit. I'll never spend another dollar here and i will never refer anyone to come and eat here again! We always get good service at Los Garcias on Oakland Rd in San Jose. Best time to go is 11 or after 2, otherwise it's swamped. Parking is shared by a motel. Owners are upbeat and friendly. We think they have the best Wet Burritos. read more
