I love the location of this winery. It's located up in the Milpitas Hills in the Santa Clara county. Beautiful views of the Bay area and they are dog friendly! We did their "All Reds" flight and ordered a cheese and crackers platter. Their wines are pretty good. I liked a couple. The staff were friendly. The only complaint I would probably have and it's more of me being lazy I guess LOL is that they didn't go to your table to pour your next tastings. You had to get up and go to them. They had live music. They were ok. I'd prefer music that made me want to get up and dance or at least sing to. I didn't know a lot of the songs they were singing. Ambiance is magnificent as we have a view from the top of the mountain. I went here to attend a 3rd birthday celebration. The event was held in the front yard of the Big Dog Winery. The weather was perfect for the event. They have it set up with dj booth, party games for the kids and food. Wines were also served. I liked the pinot noir they served. The first time I was out at Big Dog, was way before Covid. At the time the tasting room was a little room in the back of the residential property. So imagine my surprise when I pulled up this time and there was a beautiful patio in the back, that we could sit outside. We happened to be there on a day when they had live music, so that was an added bonus. I found out that the winery has new owners, so that's why it looked a little different to me. You never have to go inside to get to the back patio where they have quite a few tables. You order at the front desk and come back for the refills if you had a tasting. Okay, I love tastings and I seek out new places because I feel it's the best way to add to your wine collection! Let's start with the positive. This quaint little vineyard is nestled in the hillside which has a pretty nice view. We arrived about 10 minutes before our reservation. When I researched online it stated that there is live music on Saturdays and Sundays. You get to choose your sitting which I thought was pretty cool. I chose a place close to the stage. I was super excited to celebrate a birthday, listen to music, and nibble on a board. To my disappointment music was only on Sundays until March. I'm not sure if our Sommelier was new but she wasn't the most informative when it came to the wines. She did have a little cheat sheet written down which I could appreciate but even with that it was minimal. Other than the brief time during each pour not much was said. I'm use to being asked things like, "Where are we from" or "If it's our first time visiting." The worst part however was the less than minimal pour. Likeeereee really small. She noticed the pour was a little off by our last pour and gave a bit more. Overall it wasn't worth the $40pp. I usually grab a bottle of my favorite whenever I go wine tasting but I left with nothing and was only there about 30 minutes. I enjoyed the fact that they were able to do our charcuterie board with no meat and I think $25 for a small board is pretty cheap and it was yummy. Great place in the Milpitas hills! I didn't know this existed and I'm glad I came across it. Such a beautiful vineyard overlooking the bay. They have Sunset Fridays which is lovely to enjoy. They don't have tastings on those Fridays but any other day they do. They're pretty affordable compared to Napa prices! They have small and large charcuterie boards for you to enjoy. The winery itself is stunning with a gorgeous view of the hills. The Merlot was excellent. The tasting were rather pricey but given it's a smaller vineyard that made sense. The ladies pouring our wine were super nice but didn't explain anything about what we were drinking. Never experienced anything like that before at a wine tasting. I arranged a Meetup event at Big Dog last Sunday and the reservation was easy and quick to make. Even though the website said to be careful of the drive up to the winery, it was no problem and not very a windy road. There is not enough parking and you then have to walk up (not very long) to the back patio. There is a small stage and enough space for about 50 people. They have a selection of mixed, white or red tastings or you can buy a glass of wine. They will not come to your table, you will have to go up to the counter to pay for and pick up your wine or get the next tasting. The wine selection is great, their chardonnay and bubbles were fantastic. Not much of a view from the back patio but the winery itself is beautiful, quiet and peaceful. Dogs are welcome. The prices for the tastings posted on the website are inaccurate. Website says from $15 to $25 but it was actually from $25 to $35. The tastings themselves are overpriced but the prices for by the glass are very reasonable and they waived the price of the tastings if you bought one or more bottles of wine. They also have a small selection of bites and live music on Fridays. Great experience! I would go back again. read more

After discovering Big Dog Vineyards from the Yelp Elite event they hosted, I knew I had to return! My friends and I decided to come for Sunset Friday (a public event they offer on most Fridays). I made a reservation in advance through their website, although I probably didn't have to since it wasn't busy. When selecting a tasting, I prepaid for one order, which included 2 glasses of any BDV wine and a Charcuterie Board for $55. When we arrived, we were given the option to sit on the lawn, patio, or inside the tasting room. We chose the patio, which I highly recommend for the colder months since it has propane heaters. Otherwise, the lawn offers the best view of the sunset. Speaking of views, it was absolutely STUNNING. The colors were so vibrant and we could see the entire bay from the top of the hill. It's pretty much the view you get from Mission Peak, but instead of sweating, you're sipping on wine. For my wine, I chose their Cabernet Sauvignon, which I loved. We also enjoyed the Charcuterie Board, which is meant to be for two, but we happily shared it between the 4 of us - a second board would've been too much. I do wish they offered some more snacks though. Other than the board, the only other options were Pistachios and the Assorted Chocolate Box. The only other negative was ambiance. BDV has live music on Saturdays and Sundays, but when we arrived, it was absolutely silent. The staff eventually brought out a speaker, which was great, but something was missing until then. We decided to spontaneously come here on one Friday evening with no reservation and they were very accomodating. We came relatively earlier in the evening and we were free to choose our seats, which was nice. We ordered a bottle of wine to share between me and my partner, as well as, a small charcuterie platter. Honestly for $22, the small charcuterie board filled us up pretty well. Only disapppointing part is that if you purchase a bottle of wine to enjoy on the spot, you are not allowed to take it home if you don't finish it. We had previously been to a winery in Napa that allowed us to purchase bottles to consume on-site and bring home afterwards though. Either way, I'd definitely come back soon! I made an appointment for 5 people for Saturday at 3:30pm on their website (last seating time of the day) and expected to have a table reserved when we arrived. But that was not the case. It's first come first serve! Not all tables have an umbrella. It was hot and sunny when we went. And it was packed! There was live music too. We were lucky and grabbed a table but it didn't have an umbrella. Later, we were able to grab a table that had an umbrella. It is dog friendly. Only 2 restrooms. There is a short walk up from the parking lot to the tasting room. When we checked in at the front outdoor table, they don't even check how many people you have. There's only one lady at the table who gives you wine glasses and pours 1 wine for you. Then you go into the tasting room to get the rest of your flight. There's only one lady in the tasting room so it's not efficient at all. It takes so long to get each pour. Most times, there's a line out the door. I suggest you to get in line before you run out of wine. There were actually a good variety of wine. There's sparkling wine, whites, and reds. You can pick from all white $20, all red $25, or mix $18. We liked the sauvignon blanc, Cabernet, reserve Chardonnay, and sparkling blanc de Blancs. read more

I love Big Dog so much that I always find myself back here! We had our ten year HS reunion here last month and it gave us the most beautiful sunset! Although the weather was set to be over 99 degrees, the vineyards was up high and gave us a nice cool breeze. Kayla - raise your glass - has gotten to be the best host out there. Not only was she accommodating with us through out our weeks of planning but also amazing service on the day of. Went here with my friends and their shiba because it is one of the most reviewed dog-friendly winery in town. I was actually surprised that it's located in a nice spot by the hills in Milpitas. You can see a nice view of the south bay. The winery looks like a house so it gives a home-y feel. There are plenty of space in the front yard for the pups to roam around. Inside, we were given an option to order a bottle or buy by the glass. Their wines are really good and they gave the pups treats as well. We got their charcuterie board which is enough for 4 people. They have a pool table inside as well that you can play. Since we are a bigger group, we took over the couch by the door, but with a smaller group, I suggest finding a seat by the window so you can see the view. Came in with a group of ladies. All of us moms having a nice day out. One of the ladies called the winery about a week ahead of time to ask about a reservation and to ensure we could all be seated together. She asked if we would need to put down a deposit to be sure we could all sit together we were told that would not be necessary. We arrived at the winery. Nice looking place with a beautiful view. We checked in and told there was no table for us . We were disappointed but managed to put a couple tables together and made it work. We paid for our tasting but didn't like the fact that we had to walk back down to the front to receive a new pour each time. I tried the white wine flight. They were ok nothing I wanted to purchase. There was a gentleman playing music and a lady singing. The lady took a break and the man continued to play music. We were seated right in front of him when he starts to play let my people go. I thought to myself I can't be hearing this but I was and I was not the only person that noticed his song choice. I was undone. When he was finished one of the ladies in my party asked him if he had a playlist or he just played and he said he didn't have a playlist he just played by what he saw. He is not an employee of the winery but it is not a good look. We did purchase 2 charcuterie trays as most of the other appetizers were not available.
