Nice size DSW in Thousand Oaks, we entered the store and were greeted by an associate immediately. Nice size supply of Men's shoes and of course women's selection takes up over half the store! DSW is a self serve shoe store but associates are available if needed. Price are comparable to those in PA. The selection varies with stores and locations. Nice store and Very nice staff! read more

Back in my day.... When I was a kid... When I needed new shoes... I used to LOVE going to Payless ShoeSource where I'd get my new kicks right before the school year started. Brands like Airwalk, L.A. Gear, Rugged Outback... Yeah, I was the coolest kid in school back in the 90's... Ha! Sadly, like most of the iconic businesses from my youth, Payless ShoeSource filed for bankruptcy and the famous footwear brand went under. Besides the cool shoes that I could pick out on my own... What I loved most about Payless... (Or should I say what my mom or dad who were paying loved most)... Was.... The infamous B.O.G.O offer: Yeah!!! The Buy One, Get One for 50% off deal!!! Aww yes, the good 'ol' days! --------------------- Fast forward 30 years... And now, I am a parent, a Dad who now has the honor to buy shoes for my own, three beautiful daughters as they gear up for the school year. But sadly there's no Payless ShoeSource to be found. ------------------- Enter the DSW Designer Shoe Warehouse!!! Yeah, things have changed a lot since the 90's. Now, instead of shopping at a small-box shoe store with maybe 6 aisles of footwear... We enter the Big-Box shoe warehouse with aisles and aisles of every style of shoe you can think of. But if you're looking for those cool "skater" Airwalks or those Rugged Outback work boots like I used to rock in the 90's pretending I was in Timbaland's crew... You ain't gonna find 'em. Like I said, things have changed! Instead of shopping off-brand shoe brands that back in my day were able to hold their own on the playground... My kids are getting name-brand shoes that I just pray stay clean enough to last them the entirety of the school year. And let's not start on the comparison of prices then vs now. First time at this location. The inside is very organized and has a huge selection of shoes for children, women and men. My favorite section is the clearance rack in the back. Sometimes I hit the "jackpot" and find some great shoes in my size! I wasn't lucky at this store but it won't stop me from trying another time! I returned a pair of sandals that I had ordered online which was easy. I just gave the salesperson my order number, she typed it in and boom! Large store space with an impressive collection of shoe brands. I've gotten some good shoes/sandals from a DSW before for a good deal so I know there can be really good finds here. I found most of the shoes here to be okay, not too outstanding. Probably best for typical everyday shoe wear basics. There's lots of open aisles and benches to try on some shoes. Was just a quick visit for me but the store was clean and organized, with a relaxed air to it. read more

The store was overall pretty clean and easy to navigate through. There was a big selection of shoes in the store - various brands and types. The clearance section for shoes, organized by size, is located in the back area. There's a comparison of shoe prices on each tag that'll let you know how much DSW discounted the shoes for. AWFUL RETURN/EXCHANGE POLICY. VERY INCONVENIENT FOR CUSTOMERS. PLEASE UPDATE YOUR POLICY LIKE AMAZON OR WALMART OR TARGET WHERE CUSTOMERS CAN RETURN ITEMS TO A 3RD PARTY. 1) Online order was the wrong size. (As a gift) 2) Went to the store for an exchange, however store didn't carry the size I was looking for. 3) So at the Cashier/Registry, had to do an online exchange. I informed the Cashier that I needed a smaller size. 4) As soon as I got an email that my order was on it way to arrive, I checked the order size and it was a mistake. Basically the CASHIER PERSON at the store input the U.K. Size when were OBVIOUSLY LOCATED IN CALIFORNIA ( UNITED STATES) SIZE....... 5) Then I had to contact DSW CUSTOMER SERVICE and informed the person on the phone of the situation. So the Rep said an online exchanged will be completed and the correct size will be SENT TO ME AGAIN. 5) I then finally received a 2nd pair of shoes with the correct Size (U.S. Sizing). Now it was the CORRECT U.S. SIZE finally, however the model was different. (The boots I originally requested was a plain black boots but the pair that arrived had the (Faux Fur Style included in the boots) ( After trying it on inside my house, I decided to keep it since it was the same price. I went to this location to exchange an online order. Even though the lady was friendly, she messed up on my exchange order! First off, I had to pay extra for this exchange (which didn't make sense to me) Then when she went to verify my delivery information, I told her it was completely wrong. I thought she fixed it because I told her multiple times where my address is. + it's the same shipment so I don't understand how this happened. For years I was a shoe fanatic, and a DSW in the area would have cause for a shopping spree celebration. These days I tend to wear a limited amount of footwear, in deference to what I've put my body and feet through over time. This is bad news for shoe stores, that I've cut back on shoe spending! Still, I enjoy looking, and can be tempted on occasion. We were next door at Sears yesterday to check out their going out of business sale, so I popped into DSW. Kudos to the staff for calling out a greeting to all who enter the shop. Granted, it's a bit of a disembodied voice, as the cashiers' stands are off in a far left corner when you enter. I would think a more central location would be wise. They have lots of styles, from sandals to sneakers, casual to classy/dressy. The one choice I liked most was out of stock in my style, sad to say. The 1 lady assisting me was nice but the other lady was inserting herself in my return process and I have no idea why. She was so rude and needs to learn basic 101 customer service skills. DO NOT COME HERE!!!! I bought some shoes from the clearance rack that were dirty/nasty but I really like the style. I cleaned them up and gave them a try. They were not comfortable to wear around the house. Upon trying to return them after 7 days they said that I had worn them because they looked a little dirty. They assumed immediately that I tried them on the street and not around the house. I told them that I only tried them and that they were fealty but that I had cleaned them up. I tried returning them in better condition because they were dirty. They DENIED my return. Really disappointed in this store. I even told the lady to go and see the shoes they have in clearance, that they are not in the greatest condition and all she said was "I believe you". Will not be coming here again. With all my best intent I wanted to return these and buy some other shoes that were not in clearance. Very dissatisfied! read more

Yes, normally I would have felt 4.5 stars. But not when I see a pair of shoes, with price listed and retail price on sign, and then notice the retail price on the box that clearly states a lower price than your sign. So the actual savings, had your sign not been incorrectly labeled, would be 5 cents? Are you yet another store that falsely labels items so that your discounted prices seem better? Come on DSW! Huge selection for shoes which is great however the check-out section only 2 people working and it took more than 15 minutes for them to check out as I were on the first line waiting, so disappointed as when I check out, I didn't know that I have to bring the whole box so they asked me to pick up the box to scan, by this time the line was long and I refused to do it and back on the line again, What's a hassle just to buy a sandal here. I went to Nordstrom racks next to it and so easily to find what I like and check out so simple and easy. Won't be back here and waste my time again. read more

Customer service needs improvement. I tried to get a pair of boots for my mom for her 50th birthday but the box was not in presentable condition. The manager (Sarai) at this location (Thousand Oaks) is clueless and a liar! I bought a pair of shoes here for my God-daughter 6/10. One pair didn't fit so I went back in for an exchange 6/15. This caused a big problem. For the exchange in size, Sarai first said I just need to pay $39 more to have it sent to me. I said it's an even exchange for the same exact shoe just 1/2 size bigger. Then, she said she'll give me a discount, then asked for $20 more. Again, why should I pay more for an even exchange. Then she kept asking me for a receipt when they are not giving out receipts! I told her I have the sale on my phone. Then she says, I just don't know how long you had these sandals. I said, I have the email confirmation of the sale on my phone, would you like to see it. She says no, she can't make an exchange if I don't pay the extra money - which I refused. So, she said ok I "see" my cashier already gave you a refund. Wait, what, when, where? No, I didn't get a refund, I came in for an exchange. Then she leaves to talk to the sales person. She comes back and say ok, I'll do the refund. (But you already seen the refund on your computer right? Liar). After she said the refund went through I asked for a receipt. She says, we're not giving receipts you'll get an email confirmation. Yes but when I came in here you continue to question me for a receipt so I need proof of this return. She says, there no paper in our register, your number and email is your receipt. I said then write it down I need proof. She then pressed one button and the receipt printed out! Again, lair and not knowing her job or how to give good customer service. I wrote a letter to corporate no response yet but I called and they couldn't believe she couldn't or better yet wouldn't do a simple exchange for me (She's prejudice)! They did it for me over the phone. They told me she broke all protocols! Also, they told me that she said, she didn't do the exchange because I was so angry at her cashier and she wanted me out - Lies (She's a prejudice liar) why would I be angry at her cashier she did nothing wrong it was her and her attitude and lies that made me angry let I never raised my voice, I just wrote down her name. I walked out of there feeling harassed and embarrassed because every one in line behind me got to see me (the only person of color in the store) get accused of deceit and dealt with in such a rude manner. In fact the lady behind me got more upset than I was. I don't know who she was but I thanked her for seeing this and speaking against what the manager was doing. They have cameras I hope corporate goes back to hear and see how I was treated in their store) I will never shop there again! This is why I love Nordstroms and Macy's I never have problems there. read more

Tonight I was having a grand ol' time shopping for my new, Steve Madden combat boots, when a blonde hiccup happened in the check out line (sadly interrupting my shoe euphoria). Enter: Belligerent and possibly intoxicated, nuisance of a woman. Who, for the sake of my Yelp, I'll call Blair (You know, after the witch). Blair was causing quite the show in the check out line. And what a show it was: complete with Drama, Elevated voices, (she had several) and a Sass Finger waggling around pompously in the air! Blair, it can be said, was obnoxious. In contrast, Susan, the brunette manning the cash register, was a well mannered, delight of a woman. I intervened Blair's monologue at the check out line because I hate when I see service workers being verbally abused, and let's be honest, internet.....I'm nosy. Blair called me a word that rhymes with "witch," (haha!) Susan tactfully handled the situation. Susan, thank you. You're one classy woman. You rock and deserve managerial praise, a raise or at least a celebratory cake with your name plastered across it in triumph. read more

I suspect this store has serious mold issues. If you are sensitive to mold do not buy anything from this store. I regretfully bought some scarves from this store not knowing they had mold spores in them. Whenever I wore them I would get a headache and feel nauseas. I washed them with my clothing and the mold spores spread to my clothes. I had to throw out a quarter of my wardrobe because I could no longer wear them because I would feel sick, my pulse will start racing or I would feel a creepy crawly feeling on my skin. It also spread to my couch and dining room chairs. I had to throw those out. My dryer now has mold spores in it so now I can no longer use it. I have to go to a laundromat to do laundry. I have mold in my car and on my chair at work. It's been a horrendous nightmare. Luckily I found a laundry additive that kills the mold spores from my clothing. I can no longer sit on my outdoor furniture. I've spent hundreds of dollars on laundry additives, purification candles and an air purifier to try to kill the mold spores in my house and closet. I now have to get rid of my dresser. I've lost hundreds of dollars due to the wardrobe that was thrown out and furniture as well. Please do not buy anything from this store. It can literally turn your life upside down. My life is now huge mess!!! read more
