The next to last pair of shoes that I got were a ballerinas and booties for Fall, Winter. Both fabulous. Yesterday, I got a pair of knit booties in grey. They are sooo different, and comfortable. Very unusual design and chick. Best of all they were 70% off. I always check the clearance racks first and always find something there at a great discount before going to the regular racks. Sometimes, I don't even make it to the regular racks. To sit and try on shoes one has to go to the back. The mirrors are somehow forward from the back area. It's kind of odd. Happy shopping!

I tried to time it correctly so the shoes would still be fresh for my race in September, but well broken in. After doing some research and being heavily influenced by social media, I landed on Hokas for my budget, the longevity, and their ubiquity. You will get paired with a salesperson upon arrival no matter what your intent is, so go in expecting that. I had heard good things about the fitting so I did that, got my cute little report, and tried on a bunch of different shoes. The salesperson was great about going and getting different sizes, etc - I just feel uncomfortable with that level of 1:1 attention/eyes on me when making a purchasing decision, so that was more of a con to me than a pro. No room to breathe and make a decision. They were also busy and I felt like an imposition somehow? Vibe was a bit off. ANYWAYS - it would have been more helpful if the salesperson had simply asked what I was looking for and allowed me to peruse before running in the back to get shoes - I could have saved myself some time and left a little less frustrated. They won't have all the colors available, and I knew I wanted plain black and white...which they didn't have in store. It was still good to try stuff on, but I was hoping to get the shoes that day. Luckily I was able to order directly from the Hoka website (free shipping!) and they came within three days. I feel really bad about not being able to make my purchase through the store, but I look forward to continuing to utilize Fleet Feet for all my other running needs as we get closer to race day! I am grateful for the huge number of races they put on each year through their sister company, Yellow Jacket, and appreciate the convenience of bib pickup here for other races I've run in the past.

I felt that really defeated the purpose of having a specialty feet store so you could try on the sizes in-person. It is unfortunate they don't have more wide width shoes in stock for customers to try on before buying. It's not a neighborhood that I normally frequent, but Hickey Freeman keeps bringing me back. You can find some good deals on sports coats and suits if you're lucky. I wasn't familiar with the Hickey Freeman brand, before I moved to Rochester. They were big in the 50s & 60s, but they seem to have fallen under the radar in the past few decades after multiple changes in ownership. They have an overall good reputation in the fashion community, with positive feedback in terms of construction quality. I have 3 suits and I'm happy with all 3. They needed very slight tailoring (mostly simple hemming), which added slightly to the cost. But all 3 wool suits are fully canvassed, wool and cost $3-400 each (retail for $1000+). I think if you're lucky, you can find suits for $299. I think they are much higher quality than a similarly priced J Crew Ludlow suit.

I've gotten suits here for under $100 after all markdowns. Hickey suits are stylish but can also be conservative. They are very high quality and are perfect for business. I do lament the fact that they discontinued the warehouse sales in Rochester where the selection was even better than the factory store. Rochester folks had it very good and were able to score serious bargains.
