Simply going to the range and practicing is not enough--proper training like this is essential, and honestly, I believe it should be mandatory for anyone who owns a firearm. OJ was extremely thorough, clear, and detail-oriented in his instruction. He made sure everyone understood not just how to handle a firearm, but how to do so safely and responsibly. I highly recommend this class to anyone serious about firearm ownership.

I really can't say enough good things about Tactical Firearms Institute…read more For starters, I wasn't exactly brought up in a gun culture, but I picked up my skills along the way through family, friends, and videos. And I was also going to the range enough to get frustrated at how I was stuck at my skill level and knew I needed training. With that, it's difficult to explain how much better, more confident, and comfortable I am with a firearm since I started training with Edmond (OJ). His expertise in the field is apparent immediately, and he has a resume that is hard to beat. But that's half of it. He's a great teacher who has the master-level talent of identifying your skill level, correcting mistakes, and patiently pushing you to a higher level than you thought was possible in yourself. And you can double everything I said about CCW training. If you have a CCW license, but you're uneasy about the concept of carrying it in public, I cannot express how important good training will be to you and how much OJ has helped me.

I used to hate it when my husband would get his gun out to practice with his fake bullets or clean it or something, but now I'll do a couple of practices with him. The last class we had, the shooting workshop, was probably the best. It was a private range, and I shot an orange, which was so cool. I highly recommend this workshop. So now, while I wouldn't say I'd be "excited" about a day at the range, I'll at least go in somewhat knowing what I'm doing and have some fun, which is a huge difference from a few months ago, when I wouldn't even go at all. As an instructor and human, Dave is patient, kind, and funny. This kind of class can be intense- a firearms instructor needs to walk a fine line between being supportive and encouraging, but also making sure people know what they're doing so they don't hurt themselves. Dave is able to balance that well. He knows when to explain, when to show, and when to let the student try it out. He also seems to know when he can encourage a student a bit more to reach the next level of skill and when to back off. He definitely knows guns, but he knows people, too! Good combination in a firearms instructor.

No unnecessary ego or shaming people for not getting something immediately. It's a big deal and an important responsibly to know what you're doing, and David did a great job imparting that in a friendly way. In addition, some of us took an optional NRA online certification course ahead of it - David knew those of us who did and even catered some extra learning our way. To round things out, the one-on-one live fire training was great. Whether you're just curious to learn the skills or looking to buy a firearm, David has made himself available to help at every turn.

The facility is consistently clean, well-maintained, and operates at a high standard. It's clearly designed for people who want a safe, controlled, and professional environment to practice and improve their firearm skills. What really stands out is the staff. They've always been friendly, knowledgeable, and proactive in offering help without being overbearing. That balance is rare and appreciated. They also offer a strong lineup of safety and training courses, which makes this an ideal place for anyone serious about responsible firearm ownership--especially those focused on protecting their family the right way. My wife has been to a range a few times, and I've shot plenty over the years--but I was specifically looking for a place where she would feel comfortable, at ease, and supported with proper instruction and training. My next-door neighbor and close friend highly recommended The Range LA and Bob Wu, and I'm genuinely grateful he did. From the moment we walked in, everything felt professional, welcoming, and upscale. The facility is beautifully designed, spotless, and very well-run. I love that it's members-only--you can immediately tell they take the experience and environment seriously. The staff were amazing: friendly, respectful, and never made us feel rushed. Bob Wu was outstanding. His background, professionalism, and teaching style really stood out. He made my wife feel completely comfortable and confident throughout the lesson, and she truly enjoyed it--so much so that she's already planning to book more sessions. I was originally there mainly to support her, but Bob was so impressive that I decided to jump in too, and I'm really glad I did. They truly live up to their motto: "LA's only premier indoor shooting range." I'll be becoming a member, and I can't recommend The Range LA (and Bob) enough. If you want a clean, high-end, professional place where you'll feel supported from start to finish--this is it.

2nd 5-star Review:…read more I'm in love with GUNS DIRECT. I LOVE THIS PLACE AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE I ALWAYS GET HERE. Since my first purchase, I've returned for a rifle with a fixed mag, which I learned before picking up I could have converted to "featureless", so I could use replaceable mags. I asked Ramiro about this, and that's how I learned Ramiro is an armorer, and he walked me through the conversion. He sold me what I later found was the best featureless grip handle on the market, and then he completed the conversion for free with my purchase of the grip handle, and my 2 new replaceable mags. I've really appreciated Ramiro's advice, insights, and the personal experience Ramiro has shared with me , which has all turned out to be valid and true. I have the bruises to prove it. I wanted a KSG. That's how I found GD. Thats how I met Ramiro. He didn't lie to me. He warned me about the recoil on a pump action shotgun like the KSG. I said I'd get used to it. He asked if I was sure. I said "I have to." So not only did he sell me a KSG, he stopped me from getting the scratched unit I was looking at, and got me a blemish-free KSG. As a newbie with no mentor to walk me into this world, I was willing to just buy whatever a knowledgeable salesman would sell me, simply accepting that a scratch was just how firearms sales can sometimes be--but Ramiro didn't let that happen. Ramiro really has been a great guide. He helped me pick my first 9mm--S&W M&P 2.0-and it's such a great firearm. It's solid. Reliable. Accurate. Comfortable. Looks cool. Comes with switchable grips. I bought Trijicon night sights on Amazon, and took over a month to make my way to GD for the install, only to find I had bought sights for the wrong S&W 9mm. Since it had been over 30 days, I couldn't return them, but Ramiro not only found me an alternative option (Ameriglo optic compatible GRM tritium) night sights--but also included the install with the purchase. I love my new Ameriglo night sights on my M&P 2.0 9mm! What a difference. And great bang for your buck. And they are optic-ready sights, so I can add the red dot later on. I appreciated being guided so knowledgeably. I follow Ramiro's lead confidently. And while I was there doing this, Ramiro asks me if I had with me the adapters that came with the streamlight I had on my 9mm, because he was offering to fix the streamlight I improperly installed on my 9mm (which was sticking out too far). I did not have them, so he offered to fix it for me if I just brought the adapters. I really appreciated Ramiro's offer, but more importantly I appreciated him pointing out to me my improper installation. I soon realized I could fix it myself. I've since fixed it, and I have yet again Ramiro to thank. To be clear, every single rep at GD has been helpful and totally professional. I've really appreciated the service I've received. Alonso, Danny, Jerry, Sherri, Alex all super helpful professionals. Alonso and Danny both remembered my name, which is shocking because this place is popular. I love love love Guns Direct. My gun shop for life! I already have my eye on two more firearms, and Jerry even has me thinking about a revolver. And Ramiro makes me want a semiautomatic shotgun. I love it!

I've enjoyed shooting at Angeles Shooting Ranges over the years, which is why this experience was…read moreso disappointing. The range officer, James, was rude, unprofessional, and used profanity while interacting with customers. There is no excuse for treating paying customers that way. After my target frame broke while I was shooting, James ordered me to retrieve the broken frame. I complied, but afterward I reviewed the posted range rules and could not find any rule stating that customers are responsible for retrieving broken target frames. My issue isn't with following reasonable instructions--it's with being spoken to disrespectfully and being expected to follow what appeared to be an unwritten policy. If retrieving broken target frames is an official requirement, management should clearly post it instead of leaving customers to be confronted over it. After reading other reviews, I noticed multiple customers describing similar experiences with the same range officer. It makes me wonder whether customer feedback is actually taken seriously, because the same complaints seem to have been raised repeatedly. Safety is critical at any shooting range, but professionalism and respect are just as important. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and addresses both the behavior of its staff and the lack of clear communication regarding this policy.
