Duane Reade Path Plaza has gotten so bad that I'm looking for a new pharmacy. A lot of new young people at the registers so they are probably getting into the groove of things. (understandable) but the new young guy is the worse. He better watch who he gives his dirty looks to. I got a dirty look because I said I didn't need a bag, and he already had the bag in his hands. Next time I WON'T practice self-control. I understand they were all rushing because their lunch time was very close, but THEY need to learn self-control on the job. My main reason to find another pharmacy is they never have my meds; I had a wait 5 days for a medication and my other two meds have been filled only "partial". Don't this business realize folks are sick and don't want to or can't keep running back & forth. That has happened a few times. The website is total garbage every time you look at it says something different it's a crapshoot. I have one more rant that happened a few years ago why it still matters is because the pharmacist is still there and is very important if you ask a question, she will not answer it and if you have a problem, she ignores you. I went to ask for a mask at the counter when I went to purchase my items. And was directed downstairs where I was informed that I would be provided a free mask. And upon arriving at the pharmacist (who are usually warm and inviting at other Walgreens establishments.) I ran into a team member who seemed to be having a bad day and wanted to project her racial biases. Me. Li Shan Chen was the rudest employee I have ever encountered at a Duane reade. When I asked her for a mask (after being instructed to go to the pharmacy for a free one after my initial transaction) she told me "I should've already had a mask." And I thought that was a really terrible thing to say. Considering we are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic. It really left a bad taste in my mouth. But I wished her well. There's a marked difference between the experience going here in the AM and going here in the PM. I give this Duane Reade 4 stars for the morning crew and a 2 for the evening, so it averages to a 3 star rating from me. Aside from the convenient location in PATH Plaza, the staff that works at the registers in the morning are friendly and get you through the line quickly. The store recently went through a renovation, as well. This Duane Reade also has a larger grocery section for nearby residents and commuters traveling through the Journal Square Transportation Center. For the most part, it's a solid DR if you are in the area. read more

30+ minutes to pick up a prescription no matter what day/time you go. If there are people in the line, it can take up to 45 minutes until you can speak to someone. They open only one register even if there are over ten people waiting. When you finally get to the register, they might as well curse you off with that attitude. Makes me want to not pick up my prescription rather than deal with these people. Today, I waited 30 minutes only to get to the register for them to tell me sorry, cash only. It's a pharmacy...Some medications cost a lot. And you tell me cash only once I'm already at the register? Wish another pharmacy would open up in JSQ. read more

Poor operations management. I was standing in the line to consult with a pharmacist before purchasing a pill. Wasn't feeling too well, so I got annoyed when after a 15-minute wait the lady told me to instead ask another pharmacist who was sitting in a different section. That other pharmacist asked me to wait and took his sweet time to finish whatever he was working on. At some point, the phone rang, and he addressed the call immeditately. If he couldn't speak with me, he should have put the person on hold until he's done with my request. I turned to yet another pharmacist to get help, then I rushed away to pay at at the cashier. By the man's logic, I would have gotten a faster service if I called him on the phone. I wish the Pharmacy staff manages their customers' needs faster. read more

I love how you always have my blood sugar test strips at the pharmacy and it's always at a good price they are but unfortunately due to people who Want to shoplift in your store it makes it difficult for me to get my hair products and my artificial finger nail products like the press on nails and etc but I always manage to buy what I need in your store but you don't carry Schick intuition refills for my Schick intuition razor I have at home like you only carry the razor maybe you should have the refills also so I don't have to go to a different store for them otherwise I love your store I always get my test strips for my blood sugar monitor at your store every month and most of my hygiene products in your store. This is an okay location with a pharmacy and grocery section on top of the normal drugstore wares. The people that work there are pretty friendly and I like that there is a register on the top and bottom floors. I use the pharmacy and usually it is a good experience, but if you go to pick something up and it is very expensive definitely call other pharmacies to compare pricing. They wanted $50 for an inhaler yesterday. I phoned a pharmacy by my job in Manhattan and was able to get the inhaler for $25. Still too expensive but better. In the past I have also had medication that was more expensive to get at Duane Reade that I found cheaper at a non-chain pharmacy on Central Avenue, and that was without any medical insurance. read more

Not a bad looking store, just tired of getting followed around. Also the store racially profiles Black men. A former employee told me that whenever you hear "Cough and Cold department please", that is their way of signalling to security that there are Black men in the store, even when there's not a single soul in the cough and cold department. Not very customer friendly TBQH. Given everything that's happening in our country today, it's pretty disheartening. As I said before the store usually looks clean, the staff is a bit annoying, between the old guy with the glasses who can't seem to give you the advertised deal, even when you're showing him the weekly insert, to the high school (college?) kids goofing off instead of ringing up your orders. I've had several frustrating experiences with the pharmacy at Duane Reade at JSQ. They don't maintain the lines and people barge in to the front of the counter all the time. I finally stopped getting my prescriptions refilled there because I can't stand it. There are also horrendous waits for vaccination shots. The people there need more help and they should at least invest in some stanchions and signage to help people line up. I would avoid this location until they figure it out. read more

The best thing this Duane Reade has going for it is location. You can't really beat being in PATH Plaza. The recent renovation has made it clean and bright. The groceries are plentiful, albeit on the expensive side. Kudos for having lots of healthy, vegetarian option; I love that I can get prepped veggies for cooking, tofu, Amy's frozen foods, and soy "meat" products here. Also, organization is a whole lot better- it used to be really scattered. I don't understand some of the purchasing department's choices though. An entire aisle of Spanish spices and such but no basic, boxed pasta? A beautiful new one hour photo department but no photo albums or frames whatsoever? Even King's Pharmacy has a basic selection of frames, and they work well in a gift pinch. As previously stated, a lot of the employees are really rude. Either that or they're completely vapid. The managers conduct business on the sales floor. Frequently. I know it's not exactly luxury shopping, but I still don't want to hear who's taking what break when or any other inner workings of the store. They screwed up and activated my new reward card incorrectly but then NO-ONE could fix it. Now it has to be looked up by phone number every single time I use it, and that usually gets met with eye rolls as if I'm trying to make their job more difficult. The pharmacy is terrible. They are even more rude than the cashiers, which is pretty darn pathetic. They have given me the WRONG prescription. And that's nothing compared to the attitude they give me every time I fill anything there. Unfortunately, I literally pass it from train to home, so it makes the most sense to go there but I always end up wishing I weren't tied to the convenience because it's an awful experience always. For example, they've fixed my address in the computer probably three times in the year since I've lived at my current address. It's still wrong. The other day, I was there and the bright, cheerful woman the register said: well, I SEE IT right here so obviously you never changed it. Ugh. I have used their Western Union services just now and was so displeased on how the way things turned out. When I was doing the transaction using my debit card, they said that they have to void the transaction bec it didn't go through. I saw in the credit card machine that my balance was already paid and was zeroed after I have swiped my card. Obviously it went thru but they cancelled it? for whatever reason I don't know. They have given me a voided receipt to show it was cancelled. They told me to do it again the second time. I told them that my debit card might be charged twice. They said no. So I checked my balance online before doing and true to my intuition, it was debited already. They advised me that it was my bank who charged me and they have voided it and to wait till my bank clears it after 24 hours and just come back the next day to send the money. I was like, are u kidding me? I am sending the money thru Western Union now because my mom needs it ASAP. I was asking them that I am now stucked with the first pending transaction and was left with no more money since I needed to do it again the second time. Bec of this mess, I asked one of the cashier supervisors to write the full name of the store manager and she keeps on giving me the first name of the manager which was written already in the voided receipt they have given me. I told her to write the Manager's surname and instead she told me to go to the store board where the Manager's name is written. I asked her if she can write it, but maybe she doesn't understand what write means but arrogantly insisted I go to the board to the board and see for myself. Next time please do the ff things: 1. Debit cards automatically deducts the account of your customers. If in case something like this happens, you should have a CC hotline number where you call the bank and request for an automatic release of the pending transaction and don't let your customers do the chasing and follow-ups, bec this was your FAULT. 2. If you guys made a mess, try to be nicer to the aggrieved customer. When I asked for the surname of the Manager, it will only take a few seconds to write it. But she insisted I go to the board rather. She never made an effort. But the inconvenience you have given me will take a few days. Thank you Duane Reade for your great customer service! Yikes- 1 is being generous. This place has repeatedly gotten my prescription incorrect. Insurance only covers a 3 month prescription but consistency they change what the DOCTOR prescribed to a 1 month prescription which I would have to pay full price for. I got in line today at 11am and walked out at 1230pm. 1 person behind the register. 1 pharmacist filling prescriptions. 1 lady doing nothing in the back. Finally a woman came to the register. Only to find out that my prescription was incorrect. She said she's the general manager of the store who has 0 relevant knowledge of what to do. I complain saying this same issue has happened close to 10 times. Please follow what the doctor prescribed. Pharmacist-"I didn't do it" Okay who did. "I don't know". Excuse me but your picture is right up here. Seems like your pretty important how could you not know who keeps making these errors. Manager- "please write in any complaints you have". This is very conveniently located in Path Plaza and hence somewhere I stop by often enough.Even so,I hadnt tried the pharmacy downstairs till last week.It wasnt a pleasant experience!The pharmacist didnt seem interested in helping me out and answered my questions with an annoyed expression. Unprofessional pharmacists. I went to Dane Reade, not listening to my inner gut that reminded me of the last bad experience I had at another Duane Reade location (always with the pharmacies). This time not only didn't the pharmacist know (or care to inform me) re a particular remedy, but when I left he and another employee in the pharmacy began to make fun of me, and another customer (all within visual and/or ear shot of various customers). Summary: While the stores are always very clean and well organized, when it comes to their pharmacies, Duane Reade needs a reboot, reassessment and to help all employees to realize that: Without the customer we have no business/income. PS: Things are worse in urban communities, possibly because some employees just have a very bigoted (rather than professional to all customers) mindset and psychology. But I blame the top bosses at Duane Reade, they have access to video footage from the security cameras, and could easily send in "secret shoppers" to find all these issues out. Where there is unprofessionalism, usually it comes from the top level and is allowed to foster at the lower levels of the hierarchy. read more

Right at the Journal Square PATH station. Two floors filed with all of your grocery needs. Service isn't too bad either. There's usually a slight line in the early evenings but it's not too terrible. It's open till midnight during the week, I believe. Also has a pharmacy and a 1 hour photo spot. As good as a Duane Reade can get and the location can't be beat for us commuters. read more

I'm utterly incredulous over the poor reviews for this DR location. I just moved to JSQ two months ago and have had a positive experience all 20-25 times I've shopped here. The cashiers are all so friendly and make sure everything is bagged to maximize ease of carrying it home. It just doesn't have the impersonal, useless feel of a chain pharmacy (e.g., CVS with their idiotic self-checkouts). Today I needed help in the allergy dept and, boom, someone came over. Every time I have bought a sale time here, the "Sale" is not reflected at check out. After they argue that it is a different item when it's not, the cashier has to go to the item aisle and find the little sale sign in front of the item, bring it to the register and enter it manually. Every time. Make sure you pay close attention as they ring you up because they will screw you on sale items. It's also really annoying that they promote themselves as 24-hour but close at 10 pm (7pm on Sunday) FYI -- Rite Aid (which really is 24 hours) is right across the street. He is one of, if not the most, friendly compassionate, caring, and exceptional pharmacists I have ever met. He truly cares --I've seen him go out of his way to help people more than once. The NYC Duane Reades are far worse, think of it that way. 2. The cashiers are beyond reproach. Curt, uninterested, and sometimes nasty. They don't say hello, they say, "duane reade card". They don't say goodbye. They're slow and spend more time talking to each other than anyone else. They will literally hold a conversation in front of you with a fellow employee and won't ring you up until they're done. Their communication with you is in between them talking to their co-workers. It's quite a contrast from the NYC stores (which I've been to many). The employees are so nice and helpful (at ALL of them). Looks like some cross-training is in order. read more

Terrible. Just terrible. The kind of place that makes you wonder if the manager is actually trying to run the place out of business. People at the registers are aggressively rude and unpleasant, although there's occasionally a woman at the downstairs counter who will actually look you in the eye and say something other than your total. The pharmacy, however, is a disaster. I've gone there three times. Two of those three times, I had to wait on line for at least ten minutes. And all three times, they screwed up my prescription. The first time, the totally inattentive lady at the counter entered the wrong drug and overcharged me for it. The second time, she only gave me half the amount of pills I was prescribed, so I had to go back and spend another 10 minutes arguing with the pharmacist before she realized her mistake. The third time, I brought in a prescription for a new medication. When I went in to pick it up the next day, she said there was no record in the system for me and said they must have lost it. After talking to the pharmacist for 5 minutes, she came back and asked what the medication was and what it was for, so I then had to say some very private and sensitive health details within earshot of the long line of people behind me. After some more searching, she found it right where it was supposed to be. These people are totally unprofessional and do not take your health or your privacy seriously. I now go out of my way to Hook Pharmacy downtown, which has exceptional customer service and always gets the prescription correct. read more
