I came looking for a park for my kids to play and found this hidden gem tucked adjacent to South Hills. This park hugs the edges of the hill and faces the Dalton wash. It's pretty calm, quiet and serene due to the low traffic which is at end of a cul da sac. The park has a few hiking trails trail called the Dalton Wash Trail and the Toyon trail which are simple, but at the same time fun. The playground looks pretty new and in good condition. I love how it's covered with rubber materials as cushion as opposed to sand and wood chips. It's cleaner on the kids and safer if they fall. The dog park is also in good condition with shading, seating and a small obstacle course it (sections separated for small and large dogs).There is also lots of natural shading due to the large trees with picnic benches. Additionally, there are also a restrooms on site with a water fountain. Everything about the park is great because it has everything you need within a small space. read more

After the wettest winter in LA county in my life, South Hills Park is now (3/20/2017) tremendously green! It went from looking like the Sahara to looking like Scotland. There are lots of deviating paths, but you don't get lost here as most side paths are just viewpoints that end rather quickly. I went here with my mountain bike starting from the eastern side of High Country Drive entrance (taking Hunters Trail road). I recommend entering this side as it's easier to go uphill on cement and do most downhill towards the exit of Bonnie Cove Drive. Amazing views at many points of the trail. Some parts, you'll hear the deafening 210 freeway and electric clicks of the overhanging ropes from electric towers. Other areas, you'll be shielded and it'll seem like you're no longer in a city. NOTE: the trail of Bonnie Cove is a little overgrown from the rain, so you'll smack into a lot of tall grasses and it's only like 1.5 ft wide now. Totally fun if you don't mind it. Lots of others are also overthrown, but I don't remember if they had names. read more

Absolutely loved this park it was so much fun and you can even see downtown la far away in the distance. Really liked how there were so many open paths to choose from it's almost like a bullseye rings amongst some hills. Very good views and free parking, beautiful park. read more

This is a nice cozy park to have a picnic. The dog can play in the dog park and the kids can explore the play structure. The fact that there's a pair of toddler swings and a pair of big kid swings allows for fun for four kids at a time. The tree canopies help keep the park tables and benches cool and shaded from the sun. One BBQ sits with two 6-seating park tables. The other BBQ is with three. A single park table for four is at the foot of Centennial Heritage Park. The ground covering for the play areas utilize old tires, providing soft crash landings and bouncy steps. read more

If I ever wanted 10+ different trails from a Hike, I would come here. Never ever the same scene. Beautiful views when you're at the top. But if you want to get lost for the day, make sure your GPS is well charged and you KNOW how to get out because there will be forks upon forks on the trails. TIP: Get an app on your phone to track your walking distance, your location, and a satellite map view of the park. If you don't want to get lost, walk backwards after one trail, because once you start a second one, you're not gonna want to go back the same way, and you'll just keep going and going like the energizer bunny, and end up going deeper into the park and get lost. Obviously, I got lost. I love my android. Thank goodness for it. read more

Wilderness. Empty. Surrounded by city. This place is something special. The side by the freeway is complete isolation. Bring water. Get lost. Best lost workout ever. I am writing this right now as I am lost. You can easily spend over two hours on various trails. read more

This park is right behind my house, so I hike about once a week. Good, semi strenuous trails, nice views from the tops of the hills. Can usually see LA skyline. Trails are a little messy - beer bottles, and other trash. Seems kids use this as a party area. Periodically see a homeless person sleeping on the grass. But, it is in the middle of a very congested area, so you cannot expect a pristine environment. If you overlook some of the trash, it is a nice place and a good place to work up a sweat and see some great views. read more

My family and I love this park! They recently remodeled, and it's soo nice! It has a dog park for your pups to play in, a nice playground for the kids, and hiking trails for the hikers! South hills is a great park to go on a minor hike, walk your dog or just have a picnic. I live local so I often visit this park. Sometimes I will take my mountain bike on the trails as well. Enter from Bonnie cove and Gladstone. read more

This is a nice little park that has something for everyone from the dog park, playground, and hiking trails.

Small but fun playground for the kids. Picnic tables under shade trees. Nice (clean!) bathrooms, working drinking fountains. This was a great place to meet up with friends and our respective children! It is tricky to find, so don't depend on google maps if you just search for South Hills Park. A local hidden trail and dog park. My review is for the trails, which can be perfect for beginning hikers or if you want to get in a quick run/hike in less then an hour. You can access the trail off of Bonnie Cove Ave north of Gladstone St. The trail heads for Bonnie Cove East or Bonnie Cove West are found here and will take you on a steep inclined trail on top of the hill. You can see the trail and hill off the 210fwy between the Grand Ave exit and Sunflower exit. On top of the hill you can just explore around the top. You can also access about 3 different trail heads that lead to the same peak as the Bonnie Cove trails from South hills Park. These trails are found adjacent to the dog park. These trails are not very popular and the times Iv gone, I have only seen about 3 other hikers/runners each time. But, I enjoy the solidarity. The trails is not worth driving out of your way for, but if you live nearby, it's worth a look. You can get in about 2-3miles of trails, depending which routes you take. I generally like to incorporate the trail hills into my road run route, so it works out perfect for me. read more

I love to hike here because its so close to home. It's in the middle of Glendora and you can take different trails to get to the top. Anyone can take a trail up and take a different one down. Once you get to the top, there's cement pavement and you can run it down and run it back up if you feel the hike wasn't enough . The trails aren't very difficult, there are some steep hills though. It can get hot so go early, and if you have dogs, there's plenty of dogs hiking and once your hike is over, there's a little dog park so they can play. Their is a park area for the kidos to and the kids can handle a small trail to. Pretty Clean, and nice for hiking. read more

So far, so good. In my handful of trip to this new dog park, everyone seems to be enjoying another option besides the park in San Dimas. There are two separate enclosures for small and large dogs, a water fountain for the pooches, and a brand new playground for the kiddies (the human kind). I really enjoy coming here with my friend weekly. It's a very positive atmosphere and the dog park is great! People clean up after their dogs, every now and then you get dogs that'll try to hump but their owners intervene. The regulars who come here are very knowledgeable and welcoming. My dog loves coming here and interacting with the people and dogs. It's a nice place to have a picnic, walk your dog, hike, or just relax! I wish I lived closer to here, I'd hike every day if I could! People even come by on their lunch breaks from work to have lunch here because of the atmosphere. read more

My brother and I went on this hike if your first time hiker it's pretty hard very steep going down so be careful awesome views but I'm a little hesitant to go back up because there has been Mountain lion sightings read more

This was a nice little area. It was an easy walk but quite steep at times. I went alone and felt safe as the hill isn't very large. All the trails I walked (most, due to getting lost) cross paths eventually so finding my way back to the parking lot was easy. I would definitely bring water and perhaps a hat. Shade is scarce in some areas near the top of the hill. read more

Seems like a perfectly lovely dog park---everything's new as of July 2013, nice thick grass, separate areas for large and small dogs, and really great cast iron dog silhouettes along the fence. But I don't know the hours---here on July 4, it's all locked up at 7:30, which is really weird. read more
