I feel like every time I get examined after a cleaning, there is always something he recommends that I need work on or will eventually need, although I have no concerns or pain with any of my teeth. When he suggests all these unnecessary treatments, it gives me anxiety and makes me question whether I should get the work done or not. I always receive a printout of the recommended services and how much they will cost. I understand that it is ultimately up to me whether I want to proceed with any treatment, but the constant reminders of the RECOMMENDED work makes me feel pressured, and I don't like that feeling. It also makes me question whether it's all about making money. Going to the dentist already gives me a lot of anxiety, and I'm sure that's the case for many people. At the end of the day, I don't want a doctor who makes me feel like there is always something wrong with my teeth. Throughout my years, I have seen a lot of doctors and none has ever made me feel pressure like Dr. Sato. Maybe it's his personality or how he approaches his patients. My goal in finding a good dentist has always been about finding a great dental hygienist, but this time around I feel like I need to move on and find another doctor who makes me feel more comfortable and at ease. Lately, whenever I get some sort of work done--like a crown, a root canal, or even a simple cleaning--my nerve seems to get triggered and causes pain elsewhere. I'd been researching dentists for some time and kept coming back to Elk Grove Healthy Smiles (EHS), due to all of theor positive reviews and the staff from posted photos seems very friendly. I finally decided to visit EHS, and it turns out my girlfriend we t here when she was younger and had positive experiences as well. My initial consultation was thorough, and everything noted was gone over with me by both my Dental Hygienist and Dr. Nanra. And any further treatment was discussed and I given the option and opportunity to do it the same day, which I opted for dueing my 1st visit. Further treatment I went to another professional, and EHS helped me through the process and were even able to get me in sooner than expected. And then get me back in in-house, to finish a treatment before I went on vacation. Standard visits have been quick and easy as well, and staff have always ensured I was comfortable throughout my visits. From the reception team up front, to the dental professionals in the back. My son is on the autism spectrum, and experiences like dental visits can take a little extra time and care. From the moment his name was called by our hygienist, Abby, everything just felt right. She greeted him with such a warm and welcoming demeanor, patiently giving him the space he needed to feel comfortable walking into the room at his own pace. What truly stood out was how thoughtful the environment was, cartoons were already playing on both the wall and the ceiling-mounted TV above his chair, which immediately helped put him at ease. Kalia took great care of me. She was gentle, caring, and answered all of my questions along the way, especially when I wasn't sure about something. She took her time cleaning and polishing my teeth thoroughly, inside and out, and I really appreciate the attention to detail. I tend to get nervous due to past experiences, but she made me feel at ease. The dentist came in to check my teeth and gave a quick explanation of the work I may need. I didn't catch his name since the interaction was brief, and it felt a bit rushed. I also felt the scraping on my front teeth to remove some tartar was quite rough, with noticeable pulling and tugging- it honestly made me worry my teeth might break. At Elk Grove Dental Group, they took a ton of x-rays and photos, then when they checked my gums, it really hurt (never have had that experience) and they recommended deep cleaning/root planing. That's never been recommended before. But because they said I needed this expensive treatment, they refused to do the basic cleaning for which I was scheduled. They also said I needed all kinds of other work - new crowns, new fillings, etc. - with an out of pocket estimate more than $4,000. Refusing to do the cleaning seems to be a breach of their judiciary duty. And trying to upsell a bunch of stuff that my previous dentist never suggested seems to be attempted fraud. I have reported them to Delta Dental, Kaiser and the state. Stay away! I wish I could give zero stars.

As a kid, I remember the dentist being a very scary place, I was left traumatized after one visit in my teens from a previous dentistry in Fairfield,ca where I felt every sharp pain and drilling because I wasn't numb all the way. I'd remember crying, yes! Crying at 13 years of age in the chair only to be told that, " I'm okay and it's normal to feel a bit of pain." Hmmm.... as a child you think, well if this is what it will always be like getting a fill then I'd pass. That's what I did.... years after years I'd refused to go the the dentist because I was so afraid of that pain I felt as a child in my old dentist. It wasn't until I was in excruciating pain when I searched out Elk Grove Dental care and found Dr. Ahmadi!!! I explained to him that I'm completely terrified of the dentist but I'm in so much pain. He listened to my concerns and very calmly told me he will make sure I feel nothing. My initial thought was... yes, well that's what the last dentist said to me 10years ago :/ Fast forward, Dr. Ahmadi was a man of his word! Two root canals and a few fillings later... I walked out there with my confidence back. I didn't feel a thing. I found out that it takes me a lot longer and need a bit more numbing meds than average. Dr. Ahmadi worked cautiously and checked in with me frequently to make sure I wasn't in any discomfort. He's the best!!!!! I recently moved to San Diego but kept my vacation home here in Elk Grove. The past two years living in San Diego I come home frequently and I make sure I stop in for check- ups while I'm here. The staff: The staff is AMAZING!!!! I've known Dr. Ragland since I was a young child, and I have always considered him to be an outstanding dentist. His clinical expertise and the quality of his work have never been in question. I was genuinely excited to have his office handle my dental treatment. Unfortunately, my experience with the front office completely changed that. I had a concern regarding billing to my secondary insurance (MetLife). My primary insurance had been billed, but my secondary insurance had not received a claim. While speaking with the office, I was also on the phone with a MetLife supervisor, and we were both looking at my claims history online. We could clearly see that only preauthorizations had been submitted to my secondary insurance--there was no actual claim. Rather than reviewing the information with me, Dolly insisted that the claim had already been submitted and repeatedly referenced her 20 years of insurance experience. I wasn't questioning her experience; I was simply trying to resolve what the insurance company and I were both seeing. Instead of working together to verify the issue, the conversation became argumentative, and I was told that I wasn't going to speak to her a certain way. At no point was I disrespectful. I'm a manager for a Fortune 500 company and have professional conversations every day, even when disagreements arise. I understand the importance of respectful communication, and that's exactly what I expected in return. At that point, I made the difficult decision to take my business elsewhere. As a patient, I want to feel that the office is advocating for me and willing to investigate concerns rather than dismissing them or assuming I'm wrong. To be clear, this review is not a reflection of Dr. Ragland or the quality of his dental care. He is an excellent dentist, and I have nothing but respect for his skills. My decision is based solely on my experience with the front office. It's disappointing because I truly wanted to continue my dental care with Dr. Ragland, but customer service and respectful communication are just as important to me as excellent clinical care
