This is a very cool place, operated by a very cool guy that reminded me a bit of "Adam Sandler". We reminisced about the 90s and had a few laughs while he worked the bar and managed the team. The Wagyu smashburger and beef tallow fries was perfectly done. The fries reminded me of the old school McDonald's fries before they got rid of beef tallow. The smash patties were the proper thickness and there was a tasty sauce and cheese. The sesame seed bun was lightly toasted and soft. Had dinner here with my girlfriend during Mom's Weekend and had a great experience. The place was busy for a Saturday night, but we were still able to grab seats at the bar. The staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. As soon as the hostess spotted two open bar seats, she checked in with us right away to see if we wanted them. The bartender was attentive and made excellent drinks. The food was delicious as well--I ordered the mussels with a side of rice, which ended up being a perfect and very filling pairing. The only con is the plate they served it in was way too shallow, so when you tried cutting the duck, the rice would overflow. We saw another table get this when we were leaving, and they had a deeper plate, so that's just a consistency thing to note. -crab and lobster dip had a not stingy amount of lobster in it! I had seen Ducky Alley in a TicToc video of things to try in Saugatuck. We come here once a year and have our favorites, but we also like to try new things. Upon arriving, we were offered seating in the bar. We grabbed a high table, and soon the waitress (bartender), greeted us. She was super friendly and helpful throughout the evening. We ordered drinks and the short ribs appetizer. The short ribs were amazing, super flavorful. Being "Ducky Alley" we both said we wanted the Duck Fried Rice. The waitress said, that's a lot of food, and suggested we could split one order. My husband agreed, but they ordered the Fish & Chips figuring we could split that too LOL. The Duck Fried Rice was interesting. I believe they intend for it to be the entire duck, but there was only one leg, which was odd. I ate the wings, and half the breast, my husband at the leg and the remaining breast. We broke the egg so it blended in with the rice. All in all, this entre was good, and we licked the plate clean. The fish and chips received mixed reviews. To me, it was overcooked. The breading was a darker brown, not a golden brown, and it was too thick, I got more breading than I would have preferred with every bite. My husband of course was full just with the duck and appetizer, so he took his portion of the fish & chips home to reheat two days later. He claimed it was really good reheated. I'd give the staff five stars, the duck four stars, the fish & chips 3 stars, the appetizer 5 stars, and the atmosphere 4 stars. I'm sure we will return. read more

Easy to miss this little (Sauga)tuck'd away lunch spot downtown near the old Chequer's. Solid drink and food menu for a large party to quickly figure out. Service was attentive and patient with all the children in our group. We tried the margarita and fried chicken sandwich. Both were delicious. Wow! You don't expect food like this in a vacation town. Drinks. My wife and I both had NA drinks, they had 3 different beers to choose from which is uncommon. My wife's mocktail the grapefruit fizz was probably the best I have ever tasted. It was not just a juice and sugar bomb. Had the short rib hummus which was wonderfully crafted and balanced. Short rib was not fatty and the humus had so many added nuances. Wife had the summer crunch salad with chicken. The chicken you could tell was very high quality and done perfectly and the salad was expertly balanced. Service was fantastic and the dining room was very cute. We were looking for a place with outdoor seating which Duck Alley does not have, but we figured that this place was comfortable and clean so we should give it a shot. I was skeptical of our group ordering the Duck Fried Rice since it is $48 but we split the dish and all were pretty full by the end of our meal. I think the menu could have done a better job at clearly stating that this is a large meal which is best for sharing; I couldn't imagine eating this whole dish by myself. Duck Alley is a nice place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. The side entry door is a little hidden because it's down the alley next to Bowdie's. But when it's a little more busy in town they also open the front door. I would order just about any appetizer on the menu. But the duck wings and fried mushrooms are the stand outs in my opinion. For mains, the Chicken Schnitzel and Lamb Ragu both are very good. But, when they have the Cod fish and chips, I'm going for that 10 times out of 10. As for sides, the roasted wild mushrooms are other worldly. Wow, so good. We often sit at the bar, because the service is great and the bartenders are very friendly. The wait staff also is excellent. Coming to Saugatuck? You MUST stop here! Delicious duck wings, and I mean fantastic!!! The rest of our food, and my cocktail, were fabulous as well. Anna was so sweet and friendly, giving us some "local" info. I read some of the other reviews...too bright, too loud...let me address those. We visited at around 2 pm and sat in the front by the window so the brightness wasn't an issue. Maybe later in the evening so I can't say for that timing. Loudness...when we came in you could hear the music and it wasn't bad, however when I went back to the bathroom, which is in the back through the bar area, I was glad I didn't sit back there. My old ears have a hard time with conversation among loud music so that would have been off putting. I'm sure though if I had sat back there they would have gladly moved us. Overall the atmosphere was nice and I loved sitting at the window I hate talking about pricing because everything right now is up, so the price was average for other places we've visited. Parking was easy for us (we visited in the off season at the beginning of May) but Anna said it gets crazy during the summer so I guess be prepared to hunt or have to walk. Wow! We are driving home and still talking about how spectacular our dinner was. We started with the short rib hummus. 2 very generous portions of short rib. Phenomenal! The halibut - it was absolutely amazing. Did not need a single speck of anything else but what it was. Grilled veggies and what I think was a peanut satay was so good together. My husband had a fan fav of the lamb ragu orecchiette.. delish. We enjoyed a bottle of Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon. Soooo good. The service is really, really good! Great team! We were seated with an open view of the kitchen (no customer paying this much wants to see the inside of the kitchen). And the AC was too cold (everyone in the bar area was wearing a jacket. The duck was cooked perfectly although the skin could have been a tad crispier but hardly worth mentioning. The lobster/shrimp roll was perfectly seasoned and quite hardy. Started things with a hazy IPA and sipped on it during the meal. We got bread with housemade Boursin which was an incredibly garlicy cheese that we even got another one of them. The bread was also for the duck liver mousse that we got, it smooth and really enjoyed the pairings that accompanied it. The feta and olives were delicious, and for the next round we indulged in this INSANE Hot Crab and Lobster Dip. The seafood portion was generous, and the cheese was so melty, I have to say that was my favorite thing I tried that evening, no question. The short rib hummus was also good, I loved the earthy taste of the hummus. The duck wings we tried were good, but I thought the harissa sauce was too hot to enjoy the actual flavor of the wings. I would get them naked next time. But thankfully, the duck fried rice came in to save the day with the confit duck and you can really taste the fatty and salty duck, it was unreal. Do not sleep on the fried mushrooms, the quack sauce they have is really all that, another favorite of mine. The market vegetables were roasted nicely and light in comparison to everything else. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding which was moist and sweet from multiple avenues of ingredients. Overall, my new go-to dinner spot in the area. read more

We've eaten at Duck alley a few times and all our meals have been prepared to perfection. There's never been a wait as this is a relatively undiscovered new spot in Saugatuck. The cocktails are fantastic and reasonably priced with super fast service to boot. My only suggestion would be to turn the lighting down by 50% - it'd significantly improve the ambiance. I came here on a Saturday evening with my Aunt. We were hungry and desperate for a place to eat; imagine how impressed we were when we happened upon this place. We sat at high-top tables near the bar. It was a bustling environment and honestly difficult to carry on a conversation, but I took this as just another sign of the congeniality of the staff and the rapport built among customers (whether local folks or travelers like me-- the staff serve all their customers with a smile.) If you're opting for a quieter, more relaxed space, I recommend sitting at the low-top tables. There were plenty of families seated here, and I saw children eating heartily from the numerous menu options that were friendly for kids. Even for a Saturday night on a holiday weekend, the restaurant wasn't crowded. We came at about 5:45p.m. My Aunt and I were not only impressed with the service-- our kind waiter who volunteered to inquire how certain menu items were cooked and if they could be made friendly to my vegan diet (they could!)-- but we were in awe of the items we ordered. On the recommendation of our server, I ordered the pineapple-ginger mocktail, which is one of the restaurant's most well-liked non--alcoholic drinks. The flavors were zingy and perfect. I had the delight of sampling the fizzy lemon cocktail (my Aunt's choice) and was elevated to another planet! The bartenders and chefs really know their trade! The food was the best part of our meal. My aunt is normally picky and particular about her food and reported gleefully that she loved the mushroom fettuccine dish she ordered. I made the choice of roasted mushrooms and roasted carrots, which turned out to be a hearty meal for a vegan palate. The inherently-American side of me was tempted to over-salt my mushrooms (the salt, our server graciously provided), but it turned out the mushrooms needed no extra seasoning. Neither did the carrots. This dish came from the appetizer menu and the cooks were kind enough to modify their recipe to make it without butter or cheese (I highly recommend this item for anyone trying to avoid dairy). The softness of the carrots balanced well with the crunch of cashews and walnuts; the mild sweetness of dates paired nicely with the bed of arugula salad. I could go on about the delectable meal that left me satisfied and relishing its many flavors, but I'll leave this to say the Duck Alley offers savory dishes for any cuisine.
