We decided to give this a try and now I'm sorry I did because there is a location nearby in Boca Raton. I ordered online for curbside pick up and it couldn't be easier. I even switched my time to an earlier pick up which was accommodated with no problem. The staff is all smiles and brings the donuts right out to your car. You have several options when ordering. You can choose each donut individually and create your own or you can pick from fan favorites or you can choose from other selections or have the staff pick for you. I ordered a half dozen of different flavors and we have already eaten them all and I can say I loved every donut. They are a tad smaller and denser than other places but delicious nonetheless. Yesterday morning I ordered 6 custom donuts and 2 iced coffees. Firstly, the donuts looked amazing as did the store! Secondly, they tasted fresh and sweeter than any other donut from other bakeries/donut-eries. The process of ordering online was easy and fun! I think there's plenty of room for variety with the choices of coating, topping, and drizzle. Between my boyfriend and I we have decided our favorite combos were: maple glaze, bacon, and maple drizzle; chocolate glaze, oreo, and hot fudge; peanut butter, graham crackers, marshmallow (like a fluffier nutter!) The maple bacon combo was a great balance between salty and sweet. The chocolate oreo was definitely a dessert hahaha. The PB and marshmallow was also good with the sweet/salty balance. My dismay is the corporate assessment of $.50 for utilizing their proprietary app when placing mobile orders. It's labeled a convenience fee but is actually a penalty fee for using the technology that should encourage business, not punish the customer for loyalty. My understanding is the local franchisee has no control over this and does not receive any of this fee. It's pure corporate greed by the parent company. I know of no other company that visibly penalizes customers for using their app. I was informed to avoid this charge dump the app and order in person. Duck Donut corporate lost my desire to ever patronize other locations. Probably one of the best--if not THE best--doughnut shops I've ever tried! The experience left a great first impression on me. I ordered two doughnuts and a medium vanilla iced coffee. The coffee was okay--nothing special. My doughnuts of choice were "The Boardwalk" (glazed doughnut with Oreo crumbles, powdered sugar, and vanilla drizzle) and "The Blueberry Pancake" (blueberry icing, powdered sugar, and maple drizzle). I also tried "The Sunrise" (lemon icing with raspberry drizzle). I enjoyed all flavors! The Blueberry Pancake tasted exactly like its name and wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. I think out of the three flavors, this one is my favorite. The Boardwalk was just as good and gave me flashbacks with each bite to when I was a little kid and would get cake doughnuts from the flea market. The lemon icing paired well with the raspberry drizzle for the Sunrise and reminded me of a lemon-filled doughnut and jelly-filled doughnut combined. Not sickeningly sweet either, which I appreciate. My favorite part of the doughnut is the base itself. Even though the inside was really doughy and cakey, the outside of the doughnut was crispy. I love that!
