I was very disappointed with my pastry samples from Mon Jelice. I sampled a pear tart, a layered butter cream icing cake and a citrus layered cake. except for the tart, both cakes lacked flavor, there was a very thin layer of flavor jam spread on each of the cakes, but not enough to add flavor, the butter cream icing was also flavorless and heavy and felt greasy in my mouth-it tastes like it was made of shortening, not butter. The pears in the tart were flavorful, but the crust was wet, and soggy. I don't think anything I sampled was fresh baked. In addition, the display case lacked the overall fancy appearance of a patisserie. The staff were friendly and patient. The shop could use a facelift. read more

We were the first two people in line on a Sunday morning. There were no numbers to take, but my friend and I were ordering separately. She ordered hers and I ordered mine. We both waited while the orders were put together. She paid for hers and I asked where my order was. One of the workers became very aggressive and wanted to know from whom I had ordered. But my favorite things were the cherry danish and Iroquois. Perfect beach breakfast in my opinion. Assorted danishes are also light and pillowy with many fillings to choose from. Quiches are a bit more hearty with a pie style crust. Service is a classic deli style "take a number" and the staff are always super friendly. It does get busy, but they have a great system down to get you in and out quickly. Very casual, counter service that is take out only. If you are a planner you can call ahead and pick up at the window without going into the shop. Been going here for as long I remember for their turkey sub, it's gotta be 20+ years. I've been around the world(including France) and have yet to have a better turkey sandwich. The bread, quality of turkey+cheese, and special dressing combine to make absolute perfection. I no longer live in Florida but when I visit this is my first stop. I went to the beach to see sunrise early in the morning, afterward I wanted some breakfast before heading home! Found this on the map and it will be opening at 8 am which is only about 10 min away! So I arrived around 805. Crowd started to show up! Walked in the door and there is the number sticker that you should take one! Then I was looking around to see what kind of bakery they have! I wanted to like this place, starting with their offering of two types of macarons for sale: regular-sized and giant ones, both at the same price and appealing in the display case. I opted for a giant macaron, which was then boxed up for me. However, upon opening it at home, I found that the bottom of the macaron was missing most of its shell. The broken shell wasn't in the box. It was missing before it even got in the box. I would have returned to the store for a refund but didn't have the time. Biting into the cookie only deepened my disappointment; it was very dry, lacking the expected chewiness of a macaron. No wonder that bottom shell had broken off. Additionally, the filling was absent from the center, with the nicely flavored ganache only around the edges but nothing in the middle. It was very disappointing and should not have been sold. Service was attentive, but I did get boxed a macaron that should have been thrown out not sold to a customer. read more

5 Stars for an apple tart you cannot miss and bread that is soft and fluffy on the inside, with a perfect crust. OK, so I haven't physically been to Mon Delice. A neighbor brought some goodies back for me and I've been thinking about them ever since. As I mentioned above, the apple tart is really memorable. It's got thin slices of apple layered on top of a delicate pastry. This is the perfect marriage of sweet and tangy, and I could have eaten another tart or two because you cannot get sick of this combo. My advice? Grab a few of these little tarts every time! They also brought me a perfect boule loaf. It was white on the inside with a fluffy texture, but retained a great crust. I appreciated that it was very easy to cut into slices, despite being so soft in the middle. These toasted to perfection and required nothing but some simple butter for an ideal snack. Next time I'm in NSB I will definitely make my way to Mon Delice. And I hope you don't come in after me, because this gal is going to buy them out of tarts! I have been coming to Mon Delice since I was a little girl. Now, the 3rd generation of our family (my children) have been raised coming to Mon Delice. It is always the biggest treat whether it be a Raspberry Delice, breakfast sandwich, Successmaker Cookie, Super Sub or my sweet Dad's favorite ...coconut macaroons. It all brings back special memories of coming here with my parents especially now that they are gone. But, the real reason for this post is the kindness of the owner Serge. My bank card was compromised a couple of years ago. I stood at the bank in tears trying to sort out all the money that had been taken & trying to cancel my card and get a new card. Unbeknownst to me, Mr. Sorese was behind me waiting to do his banking. He didn't say a word. But, later that day...I had promised my children Mon Delice. It really wasn't a good time as a lot of money had just been taken out of my account. I knew it was going to take some time to complete the bank investigation and hopefully get my money back. Instead of enjoying our Spring Break, it was all I could think about & I was so worried. My order was taking awhile. Finally, they called the owner up to the front to speak with me. I knew it was him because I have watched him for many, many years working hard in the back. It was then he said, I was behind you in the bank. Your order is on me. You don't owe anything. I am so sorry that happened to you. What else can I do for you? I tried to pay and he absolutely wouldn't hear of it. I have never forgotten his kindness. Never. He is an incredible human. Mon Delice has been a destination when in New Smyrna. Today the croissants ($3.25 each) fell short from previous expectations. First two served were over baked with dark brown bottoms. Staff found these two after searching the trays in the back. The baker missed the mark by not achieving Maillard reaction for perfection. Sadly we may have been better served purchasing at a grocery store. Staff informed us they weren't burnt and needed to be baked this way to prevent a raw dough center? After a nice beach day, the wife and I stopped into Mon Delice French Bakery to pick some dessert to complement our coffee before our ride back home. It has been a while since I stopped in to this bakery and thoughts of their Napoleon still haunt my memories but in a good way LOL. Keep in mind that there is "one way" traffic in the parking lot. It is much easier to take your first entrance into the lot if your going East towards the beach as the store is located on your right. If you are leaving the beach (going west) it is much more difficult to turn left, cross traffic and enter the lot on the appropriate side of flow needed to navigate the lot. There is a mixed bag of customers wearing/not wearing masks however, the staff were all following COVID-19 protocols. I would have liked to take more pictures but it was quite packed in the store. I did a quick once over and decided on two desserts for the occasion. I chose the Serge's Cheesecake ($4.10) and the Napoleon ($4.10). Serge's Cheesecake has a hint of lemon and was topped with a blueberry sauce. Unfortunately, this was the driest cheesecake I have ever had. I'm not sure if cheesecake is done differently in France but there was a thick doughy base and thick dry outer crust. Although the inner most portion of the cake was creamy and cheesy the base and outer portion killed the overall experience. The Napoleon was everything I was hoping for. The puff pastry was crisp, the custard was creamy and delicious, and the icing was sweet. The only thing I would have added to finish off this dessert was sliced strawberries with a reduced strawberry glaze. Although the cheesecake was not a hit for my wife and I, I look forward to returning to try out some of the other desserts. Mon Delice has a great selection of freshly made desserts such as key lime tarts, cream filled eclairs, snow ball's, raspberry delice and so much more. In addition to the great desserts and pastries provided, Mon Delice has a helpful and friendly staff servicing their customers. Mon Delice, mon cherie! Your bakery is amazing and I genuinely enjoy every experience I have there. From homemade breads and baguettes to pastries, breakfast sandwiches and desserts, I am continually stopping by to get my fix. My boyfriend even surprised me this year with a birthday cake that was INCREDIBLE and layered with a raspberry filling and smooth icing finish. The owner is there sometimes and when he's around he's always going out of his way to thank customers for their support and making sure every experience is a good one.
