I ordered (takeout): Halibut and chips Haddock (fish only) Poutine Large coleslaw We loved everything, especially haddock. Haddock was thick and juicier than Halibut (and less expensive than Halibut:) Fries had hearty potato flavor. Poutine gravy's consistency and the taste was perfect - not overpowering the natural flavor of the fries. Cheese was stretchy, may be not best kind of cheese for poutine but harmonised well with fries and gravy. And we loved the coleslaw - so well balanced - mildly tangy, creamy dressing, with crispy texture. Service was friendly, efficient and quick. It was around 5, people were in and out to grab their dinner. Reasonable price. Plesant experience, perfect for take out after a busy day and/or week. Will come back again! read more

Food portion. For $17.40 a thinly cut piece of halibut with a very thick crust of batter and fries. It's not worth it. Also, come on, you can serve home made tartar sauce. They give you this little packets of supposedly tartar sauce, which tastes more like mayonnaise. I have been to Len Duckworth's Fish and Chips, which is related to this business, but at Len's the portions are good and the batter is thinly put on the fish. I am supposed to be paying for the fish not for huge amounts of batter. Duckworth's Fish and Chips is the stingy and cheap version of Len Duckworth's Fish and Chips. Came here for their halibut and chips. A little bit pricey for about $14, but the portion is big. The restaurant has been here since the late 1950s, and has that sort of old-fashioned feel. The fish was very crispy and well battered on the outside, but a little chewier and not as flaky as I expected (maybe that's just the nature of halibut.. i don't know). The fries are average, and sort of reminds me of the ones they have at swiss chalet (not particular crispy and lightly fried). The tartar sauce they include with the takeout is sort of sweet and very generic tasting, and I think having higher quality tartar sauce would enhance the fish a lot. I never learn, I went back. This place is a hell-hole. The staff, in particular the white haired lady that clearly has been working here too long was very rude to me. I eventually told her to shut up, that I wasn't talking to her. Then she rolled her eyes at me, I warned her at that point she was pushing it. I was there at lunch time and the place was empty, clearly because of this antique fixture of an old hag. There is another one on Danforth, called Len Duckworth's Fish and Chips, by far nicer people and the right personality. Don't go to the one on Kingstone road. Duckworth's has always been a staple of the Fish & Chip restaurants in Scarborough, and having had it delivered after many, many years of not experiencing it, I am pleased to say that it was just as good as it used to be. Ordered 2 of the Halibut and chip dinners, and yes, they are pricey to some, but halibut is a more expensive fish, and have to say that Duckworth's did not disappoint. It was so delicious, and fresh and still even hot. Seeing the food boxes wrapped in the newsprint took me back to my childhood from eating there previously. It's great that people who don't drive, can now get it delivered. Due to the prices, and want for fish, it won't be a regular thing, but I'm happy that it now is an option and just as enjoyable as it always was. Bon Appetite Fish & Chip fans. I LOVE this place. The storefront and the decor is really old school but the food is amazing. The batter to fish ratio is perfect and they're fried to order so it's fresh and crispy every time. My favorite has got to be their chips. Good chips are hard to come by. Most places just pass out fries but the two are not the same. These chips are thick, soft, and soaks up vinegar perfectly. I can live on those chips alone. You can pay a tiny bit extra to dine-in and grab the little seats by the window to really get that diner feel. read more

Worst service ever. I come here for my first time not knowing it's both take out and sit down as the moment I walked in there appeared to be a lineup to a cashier similar to a cafeteria setup. Wanting to grab a quick bite, I ask for it to go with the intentions of eating some there and bringing the rest home. Afterward we would visit with my Dad's sister who lived in the area. Now I live in Scarborough and visit at least once a month. Same excellent quality of fish and chips. Almost always great halibut & chips. Have had a couple of oily experiences but they're rare (have been coming here for about 25 years). All the staff are great. You'll have your food hot on the table within minutes. The bread is delicious (from the bakery in the strip mall on the NW corner of Danforth Rd and Birchmount Rd--cash/debit only). Can't comment on other items as we've always stuck with the halibut and chips. Everything is very clean, including the bathrooms. read more

I used to eat here when I was a child with my family. It was a very special treat to eat here and we loved it. The food was really great. Fast forward 30 years and I happened to be in the old neighbourhood when I saw the restaurant. Decided to go in and had Halibut & Chips with coleslaw a pop and bread. The food was even better than I remembered! Comparing this meal to others I have had at other restaurants made me realize that I have been living (or eating) in a bad dream and have been missing out on the best Fish and Chips around. Hi all! I recommend this place because we really enjoyed the Halibut and Chips. FINALLY we got to go since the place has been around for years and we heard good things! The place is not fancy but the service and food is very good. Depending on where you live, I might recommended Fish Joy slightly more because they were a little lighter and less greasy (of course all fish and chips are greasy!). If you are closer to Kingston go to Duckworth. If you are closer to Brimley, go to Fish Joy. Duckworth has places to sit to eat but it is practical rather than fancy.
