We keep coming back to this place for a reason, the predictability of the food is never in question. The results are always the best. The seafood platter is a dish, my partner and I share and I just imagine someone finishing the whole thing, although I'm sure there are people who do. The service is always excellent. My partner wanted lemon merengue pie for a sweet ending. The portion was enough for the two of us to share. It is an open kitchen style where you get to witness the magic happening. Have been enjoying amazing fish & chips here for the last 8 years now !! It is a family run restaurant with roots in England , so the fish is prepared in a very Yorkshire way, thin batter, crispy on the outside and just the right texture inside. The fries are hand cut and again fried perfectly. Their house tartar sauce is very flavourful . I should be a traditionalist and have Haddock but I enjoy the Halibut a lot ( I guess because I am Canadian!!) . The house special which comes with fish & chips, tea, coleslaw and buttered bread with gravy is quite the meal. The service has always been exceptional, welcoming and with a big smile. Went back to my fave place for fish and chips in the city of Toronto Or Even the GTA. Duckworths on the Danforth didn't disappoint. Ordered the halibut special on Monday's A halibut and chips for only $12.50. For that price and the amazing quality of the halibut, you can't go wrong. I only wish I still lived in the area. It's quite a drive to get there now, but I wouldn't hesitate to travel there to get this amazing deal. I can't believe I'm giving a fish and chips spot 5 stars. Friggin fish and chips?!?!? But Len Duckworth does the whole fish and chips experience absolutely right. The place is homey (I'm generally suspicious of fancy fish and chips places) and the service is casual yet efficient. The fish (and other seafood) is meaty and sweet. The batter is not overly crispy, not overly thick, and not soggy (even with takeout). The chips are fat and tasty. We got the halibut special (one fish, small fries, small coleslaw, and a pop) $19.50 and a haddock special for $17.50 4 stars for the fish - not too greasy and had a thin batter. Lovely. Overall a 3.5 experience. The chips were not as crispy as I thought based on other pictures and reviews. Coleslaw was very heavy with mayo but had great taste. It came with a basket of bread which was a nice surprise. Service was great, food came out quick fast, quick turnover - lots of tables. The place smelt quite smokey and deepfried with the ac blowing - be prepared to wear clothes you don't mind throwing in the wash right away. Would definitely tell others to give it a try. A little bit in the bland side though. 3.5/5 Chips - Also a bit on the bland side. Was decently fried but some were a little it undercooked. 3/5. Gravy - Probably one of the most blandest beef gravies ever had. 2/5. Deep Fried Mushrooms - The box was probably just half full but this was the best tasting out if all. 3.5/5. I pretty much seated myself in one of the booths after walking into the restaurant which was not very busy when I arrived. The restaurant extends a bit into the back area so there is sufficient seating here. The booths are a little beat up but I did not mind it. You will also notice a lot of sports paintings along the walls ranging from Maple Leafs to Raptors which is nice for sports fans. My order consisted of the halibut and chips along with an order of calamari. The halibut was a fair size and was nice and crispy on the outside. When I cut into it the fish did stay intact for the most part. The fries were the thick variety and tasted fine but nothing too special. Note that the tartar sauce comes in a squeeze bottle which I had to ask the waiter for. Overall the fish and chips was pretty good but my favourite item had to be the calamari. Some places put a ton of batter on their calamari and you end up with a mouthful of batter instead of squid. The calamari here is very lightly battered so you really get to taste the squid and experience the nice chewy texture. I would definitely order the calamari again. In terms of service the place was pretty relaxed. The waiter was very casual but friendly which made me feel at home. It just made me feel like a regular that has been going here for years which I like. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. From the relaxed atmosphere to the reasonably priced food I recommend checking it out if you just want a casual neighbourhood spot to eat. read more

We ordered the Premium Halibut fish and chips from Skip the Dishes. Our driver's car hadn't moved from enroute location for over 25 min., and Len Duckworth called to say they noticed that on their end as our food was already and waiting to go. They made us a fresh order! Skip the Dishes was useless, as they said they would issue a new driver and call the restuarant to make a new order - that didn't happen. Our original driver must have been called however to get things moving? We waited for him for 1.5 hrs! Finalley when he arrived... It was a beautiful thick cut of Halibut in a not overly greasy, light batter over a pile of thick cut fries. I prefer my fries thinner and crispier, but they were good. The shrimp and scallops were nice. As was the coleslaw. Price was right too. They indicated that it was ready for pickup via Ritual, it was not and had to wait, which is not a big deal except COVID. The fries were underdone, which is not a big deal except they do thick cut British style so it was too starchy. Both my wife and I were convinced that the halibut we shared was either incredibly tough or not even halibut at all. Lastly, and the real kicker that will prevent us from coming back is the fact that what looked like the owner was completely mask less. I assume he's the owner because he was sitting down on the side calling out orders while the rest of the team were cooking and prepping. No mask, no more business. This is the go to fish and chips place in the area. Been here over 5 times and never ever disappointed me. Even with take put only the fish was still crispy when we got home. Tried the halibut, blue cod and haddock and all are very good. Depend on your preferences. I like my more flaky than meaty. The chips are decent size. Only thing is that they don't give enough tarter sauce for take out but you can ask for more. 100% will be back here. I have been eating here for about 7 years now. It is one of my two favourite fish & chip places in the city!! The food is always fresh and hot. The bread and butter is a fave as well, the bread is so fresh and the thick slices make you feel spoiled. The fries I like a little well done and you can ask for some scraps.. which are the bits of batter left in the fryer from the fish cooking.. yum!!! The staff are always friendly and personable. This review is based on 3 UberEats orders from Len Duckworth over the past couple of months. For the first 2, it was '5 stars', we tried the halibut, haddock and cod and they all are good. Fries were fresh and the meals arrived warm (as they should, it's a 8 min drive to our house). The order last night was terrible. The gravy container was not sealed and had leaked everywhere. I'm not sure how the driver did not notice it was leaking out of the plastic bag. The paper meal containers inside were soaked with the gravy. To top it off, the meal wasn't warm at all (even though it got there in record time -- you can follow the car driving on the uber map). I assume the food was pre-cooked and sitting there for a while before they boxed it. Also, they won't let you place an order in advance -- they tell you "we're too busy, you need to walk in and order"..... but, COVID, I DONT WANT TO WALK IN and hang around waiting!! This place makes good fish and chips. My standard order is haddock and chips and the portion is filling. The fish is done just right with a crispy batter and moist on the inside. The chips are thick cut and feel a bit on the greasy side but at least they are not dry. Good value for your dollar. The interior has booth style seating and looks super old. My mother would eat here every sunday from the age of 11, and the halibut and fries from Duckworth's was akin to mothers milk for myself and my 2 sisters. I go here often still, and the place hasn't changed a bit!! Even the lady at the counter has been there as long as I can remember (and still wears her make-up exactly the same LOL)!! The fish is always crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, though, I wouldn't eat here if you have cholesterol issues. It's artery-clogging goodness! First off, one of the best things about fish and chip shops is the decor. Always dated old, white and clean and has that vibe (only fish and chip connoisseurs will know what im talking about) but this one nailed it. Ordered straight up halibut and chips, and a coke. Wait was short, service was straight forward and they acccepted all different forms of payment. Fish was tender, thick and flakey fried to perfection. When a local joint like Duckworth's has shown that it has the bollocks to withstand the test of father time in the cutthroat world of fish & chips, one would think that mere longevity would be a testament to greatness. Unfortunately when it comes to Duckworth's, one would sadly be mistaken. We recently stopped to grab a quick dinner here and there are many positives. The service was speedy and friendly, and as others have noted seating is abundant, ( we were fortunate enough to grab a window seat), and the interior, although definitely falling under the "no frills" style of decor is decidedly clean. However I found the Halibut to be a bit on the greasy side, our fries were cold and the greatest travesty of all....they don't make their own tartar sauce. For a place that exclusively caters to the fish n chip set this is simply unjustifiable. I was forced to subject my greasy Halibut to a gelatinous glop of unrecognizable origin that I had to force with conviction out of a sticky packet. I know, I know, a first world problem to be sure. To many I may be coming off as the greatest of fish n chip snobs, however I am not a pretentious foodie, simply someone that likes to see something done to the best of ones capabilities, and in my humble opinion Duckworth's fell short. I came here a few days ago, mainly because I'd heard that this was some of the best fish and chips you could get in Toronto. When I saw the "People love us on Yelp!" sticker on the window, it filled me with even more hope. However, when I walked in, all that hope basically shattered. Despite an attractive exterior, Duckworth's interior is not exactly pretty to look at. The walls are painted a plain white, with a piece of dull artwork here and there. The air conditioning was blasting, and I ended up having to switch tables just to get out of the path of its frigid wind. The whole atmosphere was really not my cup of tea. But wait! Don't go away just yet. There is positivity on the horizon. I had the haddock and chips, which were actually great. I really shouldn't have been surprised, but I was. After tasting the fish, I understood where the good reviews were coming from. This fish was so good, it didn't even need any vinegar. Seriously. Duckworth's is far from being a fancy joint.
