This was the Full Mounty order of fish & chips.

I told my friends that I wanted to try some authentic fish and chips. They did not disappoint. The seating and neighborhood comfortable. The staff is pleasant and attentive. The fish is light, fresh and flaky. The fries are not so heavy as to leave one feeling like a stuffed toad. Just a pleasant treat for sure.

This is a solid fish and chips place in a strip mall near Lawrence and the DVP. Great ambiance and they definitely have the authentic English style happening. For those if you familiar, you can even get a pint, mushy peas and bread and butter for a chip butty. We've had the haddock and cod. Both excellent. Light batter, very crispy and they have malt vinegar on the table. Lots of free parking. Note that it can get busy here too, especially on holidays.

Lightly batter haddock. Nice large piece. Cute interior and very friendly staff. They sell frozen pies in the front if you like.

A group of friends and I like to have dinner every Thursday and try out local eats. Last week it was decided we'd try out high street. Though we at first planned to eat in, we ran a bit late and decided to do takeout instead as they were closing in 30 minutes. First off, it's located in this small plaza just north east of The DVP and Lawrence. It has plenty of parking and is easy to find. It's decently sized with plenty of tables and the staff is super friendly. Food: Off we drove with 3 bags of food as we ordered the summer picnic for 4 - 4 haddock and chips, 2 large coleslaws, 4 pops, house made shortbread cookies and 2 extra orders of onion things (yep that's what they're called), pickled onions and beef gravy. Food was well wrapped and portions were pretty big for the price. We each got 2 pieces of fish and lots of fries in our meals. The fish was tasty though a tad more oily than we expected. The batter also lost some of its crispiness in transit but I suspect it would've tasted better eating in. The onion things were interesting. Lots more batter than I was expecting though. Coleslaw was excellent and the pickled onions had an interesting hint of curry flavour which was nice. Overall the food was good but still can't beat my favourite place - Olde Yorke. The benefit is High Street is closer to home and would be a great option for sit-in dining when you're craving fish n chips. Big portions and pretty decent taste. I'd come back to try in-person.

What really surprised me about High Street was how not oily everything was despite everything being deep fried. It's obvious they use good ingredients and take time with their prep. The flesh of the haddock was not too firm, not too soft, with good subtle fish flavour. I wish they salted their fries, and I wish the tartar sauce had more tang to it. But this is still a very solid fish and chips place!

This is a great spot. We went over long weekend and they had things under control with a more limited menu. Family really enjoyed the food as takeout. We got the haddock, halibut, shrimp and onion on a stick. The fav was halibut and onion. Can't go wrong with those.

Craving for fish and chips? This is the go to place. Restaurant - friendly staff - booth seats and a few tables down the middle - awesome service - food does not take long Fish and chips - good portion size - reasonable prices - fried to perfection and the batter isn't too thick - batter is light, crunchy, fluffy and airy - cod, haddock and halibut are all good - fries were okay, nothing special ( possibly substitute to something else) - fried onions on a stick( highly recommend to get this. Promise you wouldn't want to miss out on it) Make sure to order a Dads Rootbeer, perfect bubbly drink to have after having all the fried food.

Walking into High Street Fish and Chips on this Saturday for an early dinner made me wondering if I am in Toronto anymore... I stood out like a sore thumb walking in to have my dinner alone and as Asian in a sea of mature English diners Halibut with Chips ($12.95) - the batter is really light and deep fried to perfect crispiness! Golden crispy... really fresh frying oil!! - yes it is oily... hey it is deep fried in oil but it is worth the extra calories! and deep frying fish is not as bad as chicken with skin in term of fat content - Chips are not bad.. but quite standard... at least they are fresh, made to order!! Services here were fast and friendly! The deco is mostly white and super cute! Seems like the meat pies are their specialities.. either fresh or frozen to be sell alone or as a dozen! By the time I was ready to leave, there was a line up for tables!! And it was only 6 PM, I guess people have dinner early here! :P Closed Sundays and Mondays!

Ai do as the lassies do here at the High Street and order ye fish & chips or their home made pot pies, and as the Scots all sey, be happy while you're living, for you're a long time dead. One of the few true places to get Scottish food aside from the old MacDonalds, you can get haggis and some black pudding here. But tis true, Red sky at night, Shepherds Delight; Red sky in the morning, Shepherds Warning and to marry is to halve your rights and double your duties. At least here at High Street you can reduce some of yer duties and let them cook fer yer lassie. I had me some Chip and Chicken Pot pie, and it was quite lovely. They've got a variety of meat pies, and a variety of fish to choose from. Can't say I'm a true deep fried fish connoisseur but everything looked decently battered, and nicely golden. I found their chips a tad on the soggy end for my liking, but it was acceptable. No I didn't try the Haggis or Blood Pudding, but maybe that'll have to be a future UYE, with a swoosh of alcohol and a bit of truth or dare. I'm not sure how high you can get from High Street, but you're not going to mistake it for crack alley or ho highway, but if you've got a hankering for the fry in this neighbourhood, this be the place says I. Twelve highlanders and a bagpipe make a rebellion. Little wit o' the head gives the feet much to do.

Took a half day and brought the in laws to High Street for some British fare. The streak and mushroom pie was rich and flavourful. The crust was firm and crispy and the beef was so incredibly tender. The haddock was deep fried golden bliss supernaturally crispy without an oily or heavy feel to it. Potato scones were nice and fluffy. Will be a repeat visitor for sure. 4 stars

The decor is bland and again, these mom and pop shops aren't known for their decors. We are here for the food. I ordered a fish and chip and it came out fresh and piping hot. Not too burnt but very crispy. The boss lady came by to check in on us and it's nice to connect with small businesses around the corner in the neighbourhood. I would have liked the fries to be hand cut. I think they were frozen but to each restaurant their own. The price was very reasonable for a halibut fish and chips. The service was amazing. The 2 waitress that served me were very fast and efficient. Which a 25% tip was deserving. The only down side was the decor and ambiance. The inside and furnishings were a bit on the old and used too much side. I would recommend they do some renovations to spruce the place up. I would also recommend all yelpers and patrons to try this spot as the halibut fish and chips are worth the visit and money. Side note: I didn't try any of the other fishes like cod and haddock so no comment on those.

While it was busy, and there were a lot of families and large groups there, we were able to sit down immediately. The parking was readily available in front of the restaurant, and we could see multiple servers and a host all working. While we ordered rather quickly, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time, it took quite a while to refill water, have someone check on us, or get the check. I certainly understand restaurants being busy, though it would have helped for the servers to help each other's tables as need be like other restaurants I've been to. The food though was very good! We all ordered from the All Day Breakfast. I ordered the "All Day Breakfast" consisting of 3 eggs any style (I ordered scrambled), with bacon, ham or sausage (I picked bacon), toast and French fries. My sister ordered a Mediterranean Omelette, which came with onions, red and green peppers, mushrooms, and feta. She also ordered sweet potato French fries, which should have been only $1 more but we were charged $4 or so more by accident (and we didn't catch that until we got home). My cousin ordered the "3 Eggs" breakfast consisting of 3 eggs any style served with toast and French fries. Again, everything tasted great and was prepared well. I have memories of family members taking me to Windfield's as that used to be my grandmother's only go-to restaurant. She would go there for any meal, and while I think we all would roll our eyes when she would suggest we go there (as it was so often), I've come to realize that she enjoyed going for the community. She knew the servers and host well and also many of the patrons who were regulars there with their families. My grandmother would walk from table to table saying hello to many familiar faces while making new friends and learning what they were eating. While my grandmother is now 100 years old, she rarely leaves home for meals. My sister, my cousin, and I enjoyed our breakfast there today, and my sister recognized the server while I recognized the host. We showed a photo to our server, and she immediately recognized my grandmother and my aunt and asked about them. As the website (https://www.windfieldsrestaurant.com) states, Winfield's is "A Taste of Home." It has been "serving families since 1994" including my family from the very beginning since they opened. I will likely be back there with other family members on future visits!
