He constantly lied about that he has thrown away the old piece immediately. He wrote the price in a vague way and ask my signature. He did everything to take money and lied a lot. Note, too, that there is no driveway or lot to drive into: they service your car at the curb in front of their shop at 1061 MacDonald Ave (head for this address and ignore the Foster Ave. address shown in Yelp). They are still affordable and fast: they quoted $10 for a plug repair and $15 for a patch. The tire was patched and remounted in under 15 minutes. Time will tell if the repair was a complete success, but the experience itself was fine.

My car was parked down the street from the shop so I walked in to see if someone could take a quick look. Alex was very nice and came by, popped the hood, tinkered around for a second and then started the car right up. Ever since then I've been taking my car to them for everything. It's hard to find a competent, trustworthy mechanic shop and I lucked out with 45th Auto Repair. Their prices have always been fair and they don't try and they never "find" additional things wrong with the vehicle that need fixing. I recall one time my car broke down late at night so I got it towed to one of the 24 hour garages in Astoria. After the guy replaced the battery he gives me one of those, "Oh, while it was up on the lift we found this wrong with it...we'll fix everything for $400". I smelled BS so I didn't have them do any additional work on the car, then the next day stopped by 45th so they could look at it and told me that there was nothing wrong or in need of repair. Other times they'll be frank and tell me they noticed something that will probably need to be replaced/worked on in the near future but in the meantime it's running fine. They're always on point when it comes to their observations. They're always very straight up with me and tell me what they think may be wrong, how long it may take and about how much it will cost to get the job done. Usually when I leave my car I can get it back within a day or two and the work is always top notch. They're also very accommodating and will try to work with you if you need to drop the car/key off after hours and have been very kind to me as far as helping me out of situations such as my car not starting after being stuck in the snow and giving me advice. Alex and Sal are really great guys and I'm lucky to have found such great mechanics. I highly recommend!!!
