We had an absolutely wonderful dining experience here. The food was outstanding the specials were wonderful. We had veal Frances, veal parmigiana, a couple of Italian salads with a great mixture of lettuce and cheese. Our server was extremely attentive as was the gentleman who cleared our table. The service was so bad that my husband actually walked up to the bar and bought me a drink because the waiter never came to check on us. We had finished our dinner by the time he asked how the food was and if my husband wanted another glass of wine (he wanted one during dinner but now we were done so...no!). We even had to find a water pitcher to pour our own water. I was in the restaurant business for years and this was absolutely unbelievable. They could have sold so many more drinks and desserts had the waiter only turned his head to look our way during the 20 times he walked by. Won't be back. I have been a loyal customer for 20 years. The past three visit were not good at all. The food tasted horrible. One example was the oyster Rockefeller was so watery and had no flavor. My veal tasted like it had curry in it. I sent it back and the waiter was very angry. The following is an email that was sent to the owners of Due Amici. We have not received a response from them after waiting 5 days. We will never go to Due Amici again. We had dinner at Due Amici last night. We were a party of four and had reservations at 7:00 p.m. I would like to voice our displeasure with the overall experience. This was our first time at your restaurant, and from what we were told by friends, it was something to really look forward to and we were excited about having Valentine's Day dinner at your establishment. Unfortunately, it was a major disappointment. When we arrived, we were greeted by the most unpleasant hostess we've ever encountered. She was rude, unfriendly, and had a nasty attitude. I don't know why you would allow such a negative person like her to be the first point of contact with your customers. One member of our party asked her if there was a coat check- she replied, no, but go hang it over there, pointing in a general direction. It was a fur coat and a coat check would have been appreciated. He asked her to clarify the location and she stopped, turned around abruptly and shouted "What?" as if he were bothering her. She then pointed again. A good hostess would have offered to hang up the coat. I have never seen a hostess act so rudely. We were all shocked by her behavior and it was certainly uncalled for. At that point, I was ready to walk out due to her nasty response. In retrospect, we should have left right then. When we were seated, we happened to mention her rude behavior to our server, Alex. According to him, she wanted to be with her boyfriend for Valentine's Day and had to work instead. Whether this was just a way to make light of the situation or if it was true, her behavior was completely unacceptable. When we were seated, there were menus from New Year's Eve on our table, which we at first thought was a mistake. However, Alex advised us that it wasn't and these were the correct menus. We were seated at a table for four, with a railing next to it, which was adjacent to the aisle. All throughout the night, the servers and bus boys reached over the railing to either serve or clear dishes. This was unprofessional as we had to move out of the way each time they reached over. At one point a dish was almost dropped on one of our party. How hard would it have been for them to come around to the table and serve properly? We feel that this was just sheer laziness by your staff. We advised Alex a few times that we were ready to order, and then he walked away. This also occurred when we asked for the check. Each time he wandered off and came back several minutes later. I realize it was a little noisy, but we also motioned for him, he acknowledged us, and still disappeared. We had to repeatedly ask for water. A good establishment does this automatically. At one point, we literally waited 10 minutes for a refill. The final straw came as we were about to leave. One of the bus boys came over with an unlit candle, salt and pepper shakers, and a bottle of olive oil. He stated, "I'm sorry for this being a little late." We were all shocked and couldn't even respond. I still can't believe the level of unprofessional behavior displayed by all of your staff. As I mentioned, we have heard some good things about your restaurant and decided to have what we thought would be a nice Valentine's dinner at Due Amici. It was probably one of the worst experiences we've had at a restaurant in a long time. We mostly enjoyed the quality of the food, but the veal chop was not good at all. It was filled with fat and a good portion of it could not be eaten. With all of the other issues we encountered, we decided not to say anything. We were there too long to begin with and just wanted to leave. This will most likely be our first and last visit to Due Amici. To say Due Amici was a major disappointment on several levels is an understatement. Food here gets a zero, because I didn't get to eat it. Despite having reservations, this greedy place overbooked and forced us, and other families, out of their doors on Christmas Eve. We had reservations on Christams Eve at 7:30pm. By 8:00pm, the place was packed shoulder to shoulder like sardines, with a line flowing out the door into the freezing cold. Talking to other patrons, growing weary of standing, I found that most had reservations up to an hour earlier and had just been standing there, waiting, with no answers from management. Family after family started to leave en masse, some of us venturing down the street to Simko's (a lifesaver) for a much better experience. Look, I've actually eaten here before, and the food ain't half bad. It's pretty good Italian. But it's unacceptable to manage a restaurant this poorly. Due Amici, you're DUE for some comeuppance. Bustling busy restaurant in downtown Brielle that have wanted to try for some time now. Saturday night just before 8 PM packed house but a table directly next to the Piano was available that nobody wanted so we took it no problem as not having a much needed reservation beggars can't be choosy. Basic decor kind of dimly lit sunken from the bar with no windows gives it a closed in feel which we didn't mind. Piano player right next to me was really entertaining and gave the place some nice ambiance. Brian was our server and he was spot on all night... fresh hot crusty bread with olive oil and fresh garlic dipping sauce or butter was provided along with limited not over priced wine list from this full bar establishment. Some specials were offered and recommendations on the menu were welcomed. Wine arrived and told that most entrees large in size so no need to go crazy on appetizers nice of him to let us know. House Salads were excellent with choice of various dressings both house and creamy garlic were delicious. Salads were ice cold. Entrees Basic Cheese Ravioli which were not homemade but cooked perfectly in a very nice Marinara sauce definitely did not disappoint. Recommended Veal Chop broiled covered with sauce and hot cherry Peppers and mushrooms "Arrabiata" was a winner. Veal was perfectly cooked, tasty and high end and at $38.00 a real bargain. Would repeat as multiple ways for it to be prepared. Party next to us could not help but notice had Penne Vodka that was absolutely devoured and the Chicken Francais over pasta looked like a don't miss next time. This place makes me sad whenever I go! The food is actually really good BUT Diner Beware -- you will most likely leave here feeling ripped off. The waitstaff is obviously trained to get as many up charges as possible on your bill by offering choices that you assume are included with your meal only to discover they are not. For example, I ordered a veal dish and the waiter asked what kind of pasta I would like on the side and then he charged me $4. Likewise, when they recite the salad dressings, if you choose blue cheese crumbles--- $2 more on the bill. Order an iced tea and it comes in a 6 oz. wine glass full of ice. Then when the waiter asks if you need a refill, it's another full charge. Who does that??? I don't mind paying for quality but I don't like feeling like I was ripped off and every time I leave this place that's how it is. Why not raise the entree prices and include a side? Or why not mention that bleu cheese crumbles are available for a minimal charge? We would go here much more often because as I said, the food is really (REALLY!) good but i need time to forget about their deceptive and just plain sleazy business practices. read more

I was staying in point pleasant for vacation and was looking for an Italian restaurant. This place was amazing !!!! I am so happy we found it. The atmosphere is very nice (moderately dressy), dimmed lights, piano player playing music. The staff was very nice and food was incredible (and I have been to many Italian restaurants in NYC). The seafood was outstanding. When you sit down they immediately bring delicious bread and tomatoes. The appetizers that say for 2 can actually feed much more. From the baked clams to cheeses and cold antipast. The entrees were also delicious as well as the wine. Definitely exceeded my expectations and will come back if I'm ever in town again! read more

We went for the 29.95 4-course fall dinner special (Sun - Thurs). Appetizer, salad, entree, dessert, glass of wine or beer and coffee or tea. Started off with fresh baked bread. Very good. We both had the smoked mozzarella and roasted red peppers appetizer. Perfect We both had the salad. greens with a few grape tomatoes in a red wine vinaigrette dressing. it was cold and delicious. She has the Shrimp Fra Diavolo , with clams, mussels and shrimp in a red sauce over linguine which she liked I had the veal parm with a side of linguine. The veal was tender and the sauce was very good. The dessert for the dinner special was tiramisu which was tasty and fresh. Finally we each had a cup of defaf which was fresh and delicious. Huge portions, relatively low prices, earnest service. The quality is good, and everything you could want in a "red sauce" Italian restaurant is on the menu. I mean everything! Personally, I like a place with a little more creativity, and with a better selection of salads. But that's not why one goes to Due Amici, so my complaints aren't really fair. Due Amici isn't trying to be "New Italian." It's an old Italian place and the crowds like it just that way. The clientele is made up of a large number of regulars. They start you with warm bread and a dipping dish of oil and chunks of garlic. Delicious! I had the chicken special which was stuffed with broccoli rabe, fresh motz, peppers, in a very nice sauce. It was very good. My wife had some kind of fish(can't remember even though we just are there) but loved it. One thing that got me was the additional $2 charge for crumbled Blue Cheese on your salad that comes with the meal...come on! Crowd- mixed bag, more to the older side Piano guy- very good, not too loud Service- waiter was attentive and good...not great. Nino(I think that's his name) at the front was very service oriented. Now that we've left Jeff's homeland (New Jersey), when we are back up that way, we must have at least one old school NJ Italian meal and Due Amici is a tried and true favorite. Sure, they're a fair bit pricier than your corner pizza and pasta take-out joint, but your corner shop doesn't have a piano player either, now does it? Also, note that the portions are gargantuan. You will most likely have enough leftovers for a whole 'nother meal. Entrees also come with a nice side salad as well. And yes, the gorgonzola crumbles are extra, but here's a tip: Ask for it on the side and you will get enough for 4 people to share. Sometimes the sauces can be a little much, so when ordering a meat and sauce dish, I might recommend asking for them to go easy on the sauce. There was one chicken dish I got earlier this year (which I don't see on the online menu) that came with artichokes and mushrooms and was excellent, but there was too much sauce. Where Due Amici stands out is with the pastas. Their zuppa di pesce is phenomenal. Be sure to wait to hear the daily specials as there's often something new and interesting. The hot antipasti platter is a crowd pleaser but it is a fair amount of food. Basically, when coming to Due Amici, come hungry! The bread is really good as is the bruschetta appetizer all diners receive shortly after sitting down. Definitely make a reservation, especially on the weekend and ESPECIALLY during the summer. Finally took our drink order.. Dinner for six - with one galss of wine, salada and entree came to about $180.00 before tip ! Salads were good, most of the entrees were served wam not hot. Ordered Pasta, and or veal dishes whihc ranged in the $19.00 to $23.00 range. Very noisy and witht the piano /background music adding to the din hard to talk.. To Be Clear, The Restaurant deserves 5 stars, Our server only was 2 Star (& that's being nice) ... Due Amici is one of our family's favorite restaurants especially as a local restaurant. I recently was there for my birthday a month ago, & then again for Christmas Eve 2018. We've always had wonderful service, from the very friendly hostess to the bus boys & food runners & of course our servers have always been on top of their game & knowledge of the menu & specials has always been top notch. Recently, however my last two visits here, one being my birthday & the other being Christmas Eve, we were seated in the section of the same server both times. While he was "fake friendly" (you could see right though him he didn't want to be there but was trying to be engaging enough for a nice tip) ... He barely knew any information about questions we had on the menu of a couple different dishes, we had to ask another server Jordan (who's one of the best servers there), He Never came to the table to check on how things were, or if anything else was needed etc, he only came by when he saw another server at our table talking to us. He trash talked the bartenders & no one wants to hear a server complaining & trash talking anyone, especially customers trying to have a nice dinner & evening out to celebrate a birthday or holiday, & to top it all off, we never knew there were any specials for the evening until we overheard another server telling a table next to us about the specials bc our server never bothered to tell us about them. As initially stated, the restaurant is excellent the food is delicious, 99% of the entire staff is wonderful & it's definitely a 4-5 star restaurant, It's just unfortunate & disappointing we were put with the same 1-2 star server both times & didn't have the evenings we were hoping to have. read more

Once sat our server, Jordan, was lovely. Very knowledgeable and kind. However the kitchen was clearly backed up. Our apps were appropriately time but then our salad took forever and then rapid fire entree and dessert. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. Typical of a 4-6 page menu. Both the food and service were good, nothing spectacular. I would not be posting a review if not for something that happened several weeks later. When I got my credit card statement, I noticed that the charge was much higher than expected. I compared it to the receipt and realized that someone at the restaurant, either intentionally or not, had changed my tip to be 100% of the bill. Rather than dispute the charge, I contacted Due Amici and was told that someone would call me back to process a refund. I think that covers all the basic food groups, and if not, I ordered a small side of angel hair and a salad to be sure. the veal was tender, the eggplant was fresh, the prosciutto and mozzarella were just salty enough, and they meshed together wonderfully. pumpkin cheesecake was good, and the coffee was alright. service was excellent. wish I had been able to partake in more drinking, but I had to drive, and it's bad enough that the route back to the hotel involved the poorly-lit deer-infested back roads. read more

Hot antipasto for two. Cooked perfectly. Chicken special with shrimp and asparagus was great. Very rich. Could have probably asked for no mozzarella. It would have been fine w/o. Veal pizzaola was great. The reduction was well seasoned. Peppers and mushrooms were not overcooked. Veal was thin and tender. Piano man was a little loud. Only gripe and not a big one. This is the place that we come every single time we visit our elderly family members in Brick. It's exactly where you would expect to come with an elderly Italian couple. This place is endlessly patient with the various requests for no-salt and half-portions, and the orders always come out correct. Everything we've eaten here is very good. We eat here several times a month..some nights are super busy so it's usually best to have a reservation. Especially during the summer months or holidays. We always come back because the service and food are always stellar and consistent. The pricing isn't horrible for what you get. I'm not sure where the other person reviewing went, but it's never smelled of mold, I've never experienced an extended wait for food, and the only time we've paid $150 a couple is when we are doing more drinking than eating. We were just there again Saturday night and nothing seemed out of sorts to me..And I would recommend to anyone, if you walk in a restaurant and it smells like mold..maybe you shouldn't eat there in the first place. read more

1 Star for the most rude and terrible service directly from the owner. I had walked in previously waited 5 minutes for a missing hostess. A waiter had seated me and placed menus at a table. I had told the waiter to please note I had to go out and help my handicap aunt from the car. Upon returning with my aunt the menus were gone and after we sat down the owner came by and in a rude manner told me I can't just walk in and grab a table. I couldn't get a few words in he just kept repeating himself. I told him I'm happy to leave but a waiter had given me the table who conveniently was not nearby. What a disaster. Sat down with another couple, for some reason they sat us right next to a 3-top when the entire dining room was available. Turned out to be the loudest group of 3 on the planet. Spent most of the evening yelling about orgasms and other inappropriate dining subjects. The manager let this continue until they'd had the check for 20 minutes, after which they finally left-to applause from the rest of the dining room. While the waitress was fine, the service was obviously horrible due to the idiocy of both the seating host and the manager. Food was ok--one entree was burnt, 2 were ok, chicken was chewy. Burnt entree was offered to be replaced but because of the screaming banshees behind us we didn't want to prolong our stay. We were offered the fact that that group normally sits in the bar area, which has a more boisterous atmosphere, but if that's so, why did you sit us right next to them?
